HT4623 Software update doesn't show up on general tab

I can't download apps without an update, but the software update tab doesn't show up under general. I don't know how to update my iOS.

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1.3. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.

  • HT1338 I'm trying to download java on my Mac machine but the software update doesn't show me anything. Please advise what I should do to get the application.

I'm trying to download java on my Mac machine but the software update doesn't show me anything. Please advise what I should do to get the application.

If you can run it under chrome, you have java installed.
There was some malware that exploited an older version of Java (not javascript) running in a Browser. Since few people use it Apple turned off Java by default in the Safari Browser.
If you need it for something, just turn it back on in Safari preferences (inside Safari). After a few months of non-use, you may find it has turned itself off again.

  • Software update doesn't show 2.1

When I open Software Update, Aperture 2.1 doesn't show up.
One possibility for this is that I don't have Aperture installed in the Applications folder on the startup drive. Could this be the issue?
The other possibility is that I have a volume license. But I thought volume licenses qualified for free updates?

Just a comment - it is NOT a good idea to move Applications, especially the Apple variety, out of the Applications Folder. If you wish to use another organisation method, why not use an Alias to Aperture in a Folder of your choice, leaving the real Aperture where it belongs. I have a few such Folders with aliases.

  • How come Mac OS X's Software Update doesn't show a total time ETA and size?

    Hello.
I noticed when downloading big updates from Mac OS X 10.5's Software Update, it doesn't show the TOTAL time left and size. It only shows the individual updates (e.g., iTunes). Is there a way to show the totals especially when downloading takes forever?
    Thank you in advance.

Well not in Software Update, but if you download standalone updates directly from Apple's download site - support.apple.com/downloads/ - using Safari then you will get that information reported in the browser's download manager. However, Software Update does report the size of each listed update.
Yeah, I wanted to know the total of all updates since some updates are so huge. Like Java update 5 is like over 160 MB! Add iTunes and others! Yikes.

  • Software Update doesn't show all updates available

I have multiple G4 iMacs that are running OS 10.4.8. When I go to software update it doesn’t show any of the following updates as available
    Security Update 2007-001
    Security Update 2007-002
    Daylight Savings Time Update
I have tried reinstalling the 10.4.8 Combo upgrade and have run the disk utility fix permissions multiple times. I also reset the ignored updates with no difference.
Some of my 10.4.8 computers see the updates and install them and some don’t.
    Any Ideas??

    Hi Robert and welcome!
At the risk of upsetting the powers-that-be, there have been issues noted with the updates when downloaded from Apple's server or via Software Update.
Go to VersionTracker and download them from there. I did, and had no problems.

  • Software Update doesn't show all updates?

I'm setting up a PowerBook G4 with 10.4, starting with a basic install of 10.4.0 on a blank disk, then using Software Update to tell me what's needed to bring it up-to-date. After a couple of rounds of installations (starting with 10.4.10) and restarts, I began to wonder: Why haven't I seen any AirPort updates in Software Update? The AirPort utilities now installed are v.4.1.1; I have installers for 4.2 and two related items: AirPort Update 2005-001 and Security Update 2006-005. Why doesn't Software Update list these? What else is Software Update not telling me? If I can't count on Software Update to tell me everything I need, what good is it? Anyone have any thoughts?

Well, yes, I guess that's why the installer for Security Update 2006-005 tells me it cannot install because "This volume does not meet the requirements for this update." However, the Combo update does not include AirPort 4.2 or the AirPort Update 2005-001, but Software Update does not suggest installing them, though there's an AirPort Extreme card in the PowerBook (in fact, that's what I'm using to run Software Update). I did install them, but had I been relying entirely on Software Update, I wouldn't have known about them.

  • How to install (not update) the HP LaserJet 1020/1022 on Mountain Lion? The Apple Software Update doesn't show nothing.

    Hi guys,
I'm trying to install my HP LaserJet 1020 on my new Mountain Lion anyway I'm not able to find any driver! The HP says that I can update or install this printer using the Apple Software Update anyway I don't see any update or installation on it.
Does someone know a way to download a driver or find a solution for this problem? With previous version of the OS It was possible to download a .dmg for the HP LaserJet 1022 (the driver was the same for both versions, 1020 and 1022). I tried to download and install the driver for Snow Leopard anyway I don't see any entry when I try to select a driver for my printer during the installation phase (the list contain only two very generic drivers for HP printers).
    Thanks for your time!

The HP says that I can update or install this printer using theApple Software Update anyway I don't see any update or installation on it.
Updates are only available if the software has already been installed.
HP is responsible for updating their drivers for Mountain Lion compatibility. Not Apple.
Doubtful the driver for Snow Leopard will run on Mountain Lion.

How can I get this to work properly again as it should?
    Thanks in advance

i deleted it and all is back to normal.

  • Help? Nokia 928 - Software update doesn't show?

Hi, i've been searching through all the support forums and FAQs but can't find my solution to my problem. My phone in "extras + info" says I have a software release for Lumia Black, but I can't find it anywhere. I do already know that my phone is suppose to have it from this picture down below...
    Title      My phone
Could someone help me with where to find or how to update to this? If you need more info, just ask. Thanks in advance if this is resolved or not.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Go to "settings" -> "phone updates" -> "search for phone update".
Then your phone starts to search for an update. If something's available it'll ask you whether you'd like to install the update. Make sure you'd have at least 70% of battery charge available before you'll start updating your phone.
Another possibility is to use Nokia Suite. Connect your phone to your computer and search for an update.

  • Software Update doesn't open a Finder window

I am helping a friend new to the Mac OS learn to use the "download only" option in Software Update. On my Mac, when the download completes, a new Finder window opens and shows the complete path to the update pkg(s). I have my Finder window preference set for column view.
I recommended that my friend use the "download only" option on 4 recent updates.
On her Mac, the downloads arrived, but a Finder window never opened. As a result, she was in a panic because she had no idea where the downloads went.
It has now been verified that they are indeed in /Library/Packages. But she had no way of knowing to look there.
I am trying to win this new user over to the Mac, and told her how Software Update would simply show her where it put the pkg files, but it truly doesn't happen on her machine.
It is the late 2006 Core 2 Duo iMac, 2.0 GHz (Intel), running 10.4.11, with almost all subsequent updates.
She is a "new user" in the sense that a) she is 78 years old and b) her previous PC ran Windows 95. She has had a very rough 2 years to date with Tiger - I receive a "HELP!" e-mail or phone call every 2-3 days. She looks for Mac Help in Mail, looks for Address Book Help in iPhoto, etc.
Excuse the digression. Any ideas why Software Update refuses to show where the downloads are? Any possible fixes? I know this is a small problem, but it's a significant one for my friend.
    Thanks

I'm aware of that approach. I personally think its handy to have the update installers all at hand before I do any updates. If an update goes badly, sometimes it can be a good idea to verify the hard drive, repair permissions, and reapply it, at least that's what I've seen recommended many times for problematic updates.
I'm trying to avoid a philosophical discussion, though, of how to do OS X updates (standalone dmg files vs. Software Update, repairing permissions, or not, safe boot, or not etc. etc.) I've seen long, long discussions. I've never used Software Update to do an update on my machine, but that's only my preference. I could be branded a complete Luddite for this.
I was just hoping that someone out there had a quick fix for the "busted" automatic Finder window - that's all I seek. If not, it's not a serious problem, and I'll move on. Just irritating to see it work 100% perfectly on one Mac and not at all on the other.
    Thank you for your input.

  • N82: Nokia Software Update doesn't find the phone

Hello, I am trying to update the firmware of my Nokia N82, but I get an error message from Nokia Software Updater saying that it doesn't find the phone. I find that strange as Nokia PC Suite indeed finds the phone. The icon on the taskbar says that "AndersMobil is connected".
I've noticed that if I let Nokia PC Suite run at the same time as Nokia Software Updater, this icon shows that the phone is being connected and disconnected several times while Nokia Software Updater tries to find the phone, something that might indicate that the two programs cannot be run at the same time? I tried to run Nokia Software Update alone, but still the program doesn't find the phone.
In Windows Hardware Manager (or Units manager, not sure of the english translation) of Windows XP, "Nokia GSM Phone USB Modem" gives the following error message: "The unit is not working as it should as Windows cannot load the necessary drivers for this unit (Code 31)." Under "Portable Devices" in Hardware Manager/(or Units manager?) the error message "This unit cannot start. (Code 10)" appears for the unit "AndersMobil".
I followed the guidelines on the internet reinstalling Nokia PC Suite and Nokia Software Updater, removing and reinstalling the drivers, but Nokia Software Update still doesn't find the phone, and the same error messages appears in Hardware/Units manager every time.
    What do I do?
    Regards,
    Anders
By the way, I sent an e-mail to Nokia support about this but they still haven't answered although it's been a long time since.
    Moderator note: translation removed.

  • EFI firmware update doesn't show up?

Wondering why the EFI firmware update doesn't show up for me in Software update? My firmware is: MP31.006C.B03
Supposedly after the update its supposed to be: MP31.006C.B05
Does this mean that I don't need the update?

    CapNemo wrote:
Thanks for all the replies. I guess the problem is that I haven't yet installed the Leopard Graphics update. Since everything is running so well right now I didn't want to mess with it.
So what's the story, should I or shouldn't I install the Leopard Graphics Update and the EFI Firmware update? I've never experienced the wake from sleep problems because I have Energy Saver set to "never" sleep.
It might be wisest not to, but then it's hard to say. The
firmware update might address some nasty issues we don't know
about. Or it might be targeted specifically at the reboot issue.
How can we know? There's very little information on the download page.
It's a gamble, sorry to say.
One thing: I'm not super convinced you'll need that graphics
update after the EFI update has been applied. It would be surprising
if Apple made the machines reliant on something not included with
    the original install disks.
You might try this very risky (caution: possibly dangerous; at your
own risk only) thing: applying the graphics update and then manually
reverting it from a backup after installing the EFI update.
Note this though: the EFI update is essentially irreversible.
In a couple of months, graphics update 2 will likely be available, if
history repeats itself. You might wait until then, and take that risk
    instead
