HT4623 Software updates does not appear on iPad under settings, general

Trouble with down loading io5

You must use a cable to get to IOS-5.  Then, the "updates" option will appear under settings for future updating via WiFi.

How do I download IOS5 onto a first generation ipad?  Software Update does not appear under General in Settings on the first generation ipad.

The Settings > General > Software Update option only appears when you have iOS 5+ installed, if you have iOS 4 then you will need to do the update via your computer's iTunes.
Connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer via File > Transfer Purchases. You may also want to copy photos and any important documents off the iPad as well e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc - they should be included in the backup, but it's best to have a copy of them outside of the backup just in case. You can then force a backup of the iPad by right-clicking the iPad 'Device' on the left-hand side of iTunes and selecting 'Backup'.
Then start the update by selecting the iPad on the left-hand side of iTunes, and on the Summary tab on the right-hand side clicking the Check For Updates button

  • Apple software updates does not appear to do its automatic checks?

I have itunes installed on two almost identical Windows 7 based PC's and I have noticed that on one PC the Apple Software Updates do not appear to do its job by checking for updates automatically. If I run the software manually it will show if an update is available and allow me to install it but I never seem to get prompted automatically by Apple Software Updates even though its set to check weekly.  My other PC does prompt.  Both PC's have pretty much exactly the same software installed including firewall.  Any reason why this would not appear to be working?  Any way of checking if its actually carrying out the checks?

The reason I suggested moving the files to the Desktop is because if none of these files are responsible for the problem, you can then put them back--or at least put back the com.apple.systempreferences.plist file, which would have many things in it besides the setting for Software Update. If it is the cause of the problem it would be a good idea to replace it and redo your settings. But if it is NOT causing a problem you would not want to figure out what all needs to be reset, instead you can put the old one back. The two plists from the ByHosts folders can probably just be trashed, and new ones created when you reset preferences for Software Update, although the scheduler might do something else (I don't have many things on auto schedule so I don't know, the only thing in mine is Software Update settings).

An iPad 1 will update to iOS 5.1.1, and an iPad 2 and 3 to iOS 6.0.1 (the first gen iPad doesn't support iOS 6). If it is an iPad 2 or 3 then iOS 6 will remove the built-in YouTube app and the Maps app will change - though google have app versions in the store.

  • HT4623 Software update does not come up when I go into settings/gereral, anyone know what to do?

    Y

Software Update did not appear in Settings until iOS 5. You need to start iTunes on the computer you normally sync with, connect your iPad oto that computer, select your iPad in iTunes and then select the General tab.
Scroll down under General until you find the check for update choice. Select that and follow the prompts.

  • Software Update Does Not Appear to Work

I currently have v4.2.1 iOS on my iPhone 4. Today I see an iOS update for v4.2.6 yet when I go to update it tells me that I have the most current iOS. I would love to know more about v4.2.6 and if it's meant for my iPhone.
    Thanks

If you have an AT&T or other GSM phone, then this update is NOT intended for your phone. It is for the Verizon CDMA iPhone only at this time.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

I want to update my ipad 2 but I do not get the notice to update software on my ipad under settings, general.  I have not updates since I purchased the ipad.  Please help.

You have to be running iOS 5 in order to update via the iPad settings. You are running 4.3. You will have to update via the latest version of iTunes on a computer. After you update to iOS 5.1.1, you will be able to do OTA updates from the settings on the iPad.

  • Software updates do not appear under Updates

Software updates do not appear under Updates in the Mac App Store.  So far, I have not been able to select or install the newest Yosemite update (10.10.1) and the latest iTune update.  What could be the problem?  Third party software shows and will update, like Evernote, but Apple branded updates do not appear.

    Hello JAKE3POINT0,
After reviewing your post, I have located the page which includes the download of the 10.10.1 update. Applying the update may address the issue you are experiencing:

  • Why Software Updater does not install some updates automatically?

QuestionWhy Software Updater does not install some updates automatically?
AnswerSoftware Updater only installs security-related updates automatically. Non-security-related updates, and service packs installation are required to be initiated manually via the Software updates tab under the Policy Manager Console.
In Policy Manager 12, a checkbox Show non-security-related updates has been introduced under the Policy Manager Console > Software tab. Unchecking the checkbox hides the following update types:
    Microsoft security tools
    Non-security updates
    Service packs
Note: This checkbox is Policy Manager Console-specific setting. If you change the setting in one Policy Manager Console, it would not affect another Policy Manager Console connected to the same Policy Manager Server.

  • HT1338 my software update does not work using OS X 10.6.8: update icon just stays static and times out, although web is online

My software update does not work: the icon jams and then times out, although web is online. How to resolve??

    Snow Leopard DVD:
You can get it only by phone now from Apple.
In the US, call 1-800-MY-APPLE and ask for a sales assistant. Last quoted price was $19.99 for the single-user and $29.99 for the family licence.
For other countries, check here; http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
Don't forget to ask for Sales; the tech support guys can't help.
When you've installed SL it will be 10.6.3. You need to update that to 10.6.8 with the combo installer from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399 - that gives you access to the Mac App store.
Lion is only available by phone also - same number and they'll give you a download code to use in the Mac App Store.
If you're going to Mountain Lion you don't need to install Lion first - you can do it straight from Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
    Specifications;
    Snow Leopard 10.6.x:
    Lion 10.7.x;
    Mountain Lion 10.8.x:
    As for Lion, but also must be one of these groups;
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminium, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)

  • ITunes Software Update Does Not Work

In iTunes v 10.5.3.3 I click on Help, Check For Updates.  iTunes responds with "A new version of iTunes (10.6) is available.  Would you like to download it now?".  I click on "Download iTunes".
The "Apple Software Update" Dialog Box appears but iTunes does not appear on the list.  The only thing that appears on the list is "DVD or CD Sharing Setup Update."  The only way for me to update iTunes is to manually download the iTunes application.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes.  I get the same result.  Is the problem the iTunes application or the Apple Software Update application?  I am running Windows XP Professional.

I repaired Apple Software Update.  It is now reporting that I need a "Boot Camp Update".  I do not use Boot Camp or have it installed on my system.
Doublechecking ... is your XP running natively on your computer, or is it a virtual installation on a system running Mac OS or Linux, or some other OS?
(Your ASU is behaving like your XP is installed on a BootCamp partition on a Mac system ... but if you aren't running BootCamp, it might be being confused by a virtual XP installation.)
