Okay so I'm having a few technical problems with my Apple devices.
1) I'm trying to sync my iPhone 4s with my iTunes music library on my MacBook Air. Whenver I plug up the device to my laptop it's almost like my laptop isn't seeing the device. It's also doing the same thing with my older iPod Nano. I'm not really sure what's going wrong. Both of the devices are showing that they are plugged up to a power source whenever I plug them into my laptop but I can't find the devices on my laptop to sync them. I've also tried going to File>Devices>Sync but the sync option isn't available.
2) My second problem is with my AppleTV. I can't get my airplay/mirroring to work. I have an iPhone 5 as well so there shouldnt be a problem with mirroring since im running on iOS 6.1.4. It's just like the little AirPlay button won't come up. Both devices are on the same Wifi network as well. Sometimes the Airplay option comes up when the AppleTV is "sleeping" but whenever I turn it on and I'm viewing its content on the TV the AirPlay option just goes away.

This morning I plugged my iPhone in to download pictures. It said there are updates so I clicked to download and update. Now I have a black screen with a white apple and no phone anything. The on/off button does nothing. Please tell me what to do. Thanks CJM

I am not being able to sync my Ipod touch on my Itunes library. I was able to get all the apps, but no music. Also, some of the sogs I purchased as showing an error message saying it's not autorized to play, but I did purchase on my computer..

You cannot update it if you can't get the latest version of iTunes. Actually, the latest version of iTunes will run in XP if you have Service Pack 2. Also, you posted in the iPad forum, and your profile shows you have an iPad, but in your post, you say it is an iPod. Is it an iPad or an iPod?

The same way you would sync with any other version of iTunes.
Connect the device.
Select the device.
Select Sync.
In the new version of iTunes, the sidebar is disabled by default. With a device connected, it will be listed in the upper right hand corner.
If you want the side bar back, type Cntrl + S.

Follow this procedure:
1. Go to Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Apple ID.
2. Tap your Apple ID
3. Sign out
4. Sign in with your updated Apple ID.

To free up hard drive space the best bet is to move data files that you don't need access to all the time. Likely candidates are music, video, and photos. Things like word processing and spreadsheet files can also be moved but they tend not to be very large and so don't free up much space. The problem with moving the above mentioned files is that iTunes and iPhoto need to know where the files are stored.
Here's an article explaining how to move the iTunes folder. You can move the iPhoto library using the Finder but there is a slight complication. Start iPhoto, open the Preferences and click on the Advanced tab. The first option is "Copy items to the iPhoto Library". If this option is checked, copy the iPhoto library to your external folder (drag it from the Pictures folder to your external drive) and then delete it from your Picture folder. If this option is not checked, it is a bit more complicated and we'll need to talk a bit.

Does iTunes not recognize the phone, or does it recognize it but not sync? If it is the former see: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538.
If it is the latter you may have some settings wrong. Tell us what you have tried.
