HT4623 There is no software update option on my ipod and I cant update!!!???
I have an iphone 5 and have no probs. My old ipod touch is being used by my daughter but she is unable to download games as IOS 4.3 is needed. In settings, the software update option is not there? How can I do the update??
The Settings>General>Software Update comes with iOS 5 and later.

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.0.1. For the iPad Mini the iOS is 6.0.2. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.

Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

There is no other way than to plug into a computer to restore the phone. You can use another computer to do so, but in case you did not back up to iCloud your data and settings will be gone.

So I got a software update for iPod.. Thinking it would be knowing all it would do is update my iPod so it would work better i pressed accept. I guess I screwed it up because I was using FaceTime when impressed accepted it. A second later it shut off my iPod and began the update which took about ten minutes then it turned back on so I unlock it and immediately called back my friend on FaceTime. After spending two hrs on FaceTime I ended the call and immediately noticed my iPod was acting funny. It wouldn't lock when I pressed the button and it won't take a picture of the screen when I press those two buttons. And when I pressed those two buttons together to turn in off it went straight to voice control and I was like what. It won't turn back on unless plugged in. I don't know what is wrong with it. Enyone have an idea? Please help.

2 error messages when opening itunes: "The software required for communicating with Ipods and mobile phones was not installed correctly. Do you want Itunes to repair this for you?" When clicking yes another message indicates not able to remove services. Another message is: "Service (ipod service) could not be installed. I've uninstalled all Apple services (itunes, quicktime, apple software update, apple mobiles devices support, bonjour and apple application support and reinstalled itunes/quicktime - no change in error messages. I cannot burn CDs using Itunes. This all seemed to happen when I updated itunes to version 10. I have a Windows 7 64-bit operating system on a Dell Inspiron Zino HD; the Itunes software is also 64 bit.

I went to Update my I phone (4) and It was updating then said it could not finish the update left my phone on the black apple after 40 mins went to recovery mode .. it said restore it but everytime I try it said error 18 what can i do?Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased. Some glitch occured and you have to restore/erse the iPod. Y will have to restore from an existing backup if y ohave one.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

Unless the iPhone was purchased as unlocked very recently directly from an Apple Store (the only place in the US where unlocked iPhones are sold, and then only since June), which from the symptoms I doubt is the case, then it was locked to AT&T and jailbroken to make it work with an Irish cell carrier. Updating the operating system has now relocked the iPhone back to AT&T.
Only the cell carrier can institute an official unlock, one which will hold across updates of the operating system, and AT&T will not do so for any reason. All we can advise here is that you return the iPhone to your uncle and purchase an iPhone there in Ireland.

Having trouble when I launch iTunes (version 11.0.2) on my Dell Laptop running Windows 7 Professional (service pack 1). I get an error message indicating software required to communicate with iPod and mobile phones was not installed correctly. Do you want iTunes to try to repair this for you? I normally respond with OK and it immediately tells me "could not be repaired. Please reinstall iTunes..." I have done this a number of times to no avail.
I also notice Quicktime is not getting installed at all.
That one is normal nowadays (ever since the iTunes versions 10.5.x).

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
