  • HT4623 There is not an option in settings to update my software

I am trying to update the software on my original iPad and used the following steps:  click on settings, general and then there is no option for update software.  Any suggestions on how else to update?

Start iTunes on the computer you normally sync with. Check for updates to iTunes and if there is an update download and install it. Then restart your computer and start iTunes on your counter. Then connect your iPad. In the left column of iTunes on your computer select your iPad. In the right column select General and then click n check for updates. You might not even have to check for updates as you will be notified that an update is available. Follow the prompts to update your iOS.
After you have pdated to the current version which is iOS 5.1 you will be able to do subsequent updates directly on your iPad.

  • HT4623 I need to download iOS but there is no update in my settings. How can I go ahead and update my iOS???!

I need help updateing my iOS. I need ios6. But I go into settings and there are nonupdates. How can I get iOS 6????

Updates over the air didn't become an available feature until iOS 5, so if you don't have iOS 5 or later, that option won't be in Settings > General. You will need to update using iTunes on your computer.
    Update your device using iTunes
Ensure that you're using the latest version of iTunes.
Connect your device to your computer using the included USB cable.
After iTunes opens, select your device when it appears in iTunes under Devices.
Click "Check for Update" in the Summary pane to check for available updates.
If an update is available, iTunes prompts you to download and install the update. Do not disconnect your device until the update has finished.

If your iDevice is using a version of iOS lower than 5, you will need to use iTunes on your syncing computer to perform the upgrade. Use the Apple link below as a guide for the upgrade.

I had this problem while I had iOS 5.1.1 installed for many months. Fortunately I only have about 150 contacts and only about half of them duplicated. I found that my problem was the way thing were set up in Outlook. I removed all of the duplicates and corrected everything in Outlook contacts (ignoring the address book) and have not had the problem since, Hope this helps.

I'm trying to update my iPad to ios5, as I want Sky Go on it to watch the cricket, so I've gone thru Settings, General, but there is no update available...what am I doing wrong? Or is this iPad not able to get updates? Thanks

You only have the option if you are already running iOS 5. If you are trying to update the iOS, you have to use iTunes on a computer to update the iPad.

  • HT4623 trying to update my phone, but when i go into settings, then general, there is no update option?, why?, please help

im trying to update my phone, but when i go into settings, then general, there is no update option?, why?, please help

Then you will need to update to iOS 5.1.1 as outlined above.  A word of caution before updating: be sure to import all your photos to your computer and back up your contacts (by syncing with a supported program such as Outlook, to an online service such as Google, or using an app like My Contacts Backup).  Failure to do so risks losing your data.
    Syncing an iPhone 4 requires:
Mac: OS X v10.5.8 or later
PC: Windows 7; Windows Vista; or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 3 or later
iTunes 10.5 or later (free download from www.itunes.com/download)
You will first need to meet these system requirements in order to sync (and update) your phone.

  • HT4623 I do not have update software in settings in my iPad. What do I do to update the ipad to iOS 6?

what to do to update operating system to iOS 6 in the iPad when there is no update software in stings?

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.0.1. For the iPad Mini the iOS is 6.0.2. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
