I have an iPhone4 and after downloading the update it says "unable to install update. An error occurred installing iOS6. Now what?

my iphone is doing the SAME EXACT thing although i have the iphone 3gs, it downloaded and everything then i try to install it and i get the same exact message!

i have AT&T, and I'm using an iPhone 6. The phone worked perfectly before I updated to 8.1. The 24 hour plan will not work because under settings>Messages, iMessage says "activation unsuccessful, please try again." I told apple support the same, but he was confident that in 24 hours it would miraculously fix itself. He also said don't try to turn iMessage off, then on again cause it would "reset" the 24 hour clock, which is ironic that apple support tells me not to "reset iMessage" but the phone it self says "try again".
BTw its zoomed in because my apple ID was showing. I'm using my iPhone to post this and it's been an absolute nightmare don't know why there's a million numbers... Apple I've loved you for so long but your stressing me out.

Thank you very much for your quick response. It took two tries, but it worked, it through me a curve, it directed me to plug in to my computer and go to iTunes, so that is how I did it. I am not very iPad savvy, so for me , it was a challenge . It also brought the iPad back to original set up. Had to set up all apps again. Oh we'll, I appreciate your help. Thanks again.

To answer the post title FireFox save all downloads automatically in the download folder, which you can find in the Documents folder. If you want to choose where to save your downloads go to tools>options>check always ask me where to save files.
Secondly, I am assuming you have IE 8 installed as this is the only version that supports this fix that is currently not in beta. Go to control panel>internet options>advanced tab and reset the settings at the bottom. This may or may not fix the problem but it is a good first step.

You have to restore your phone. To do this turn off your phone and disconnect it from your pc or mac. You then have to plug in the usb part of your sychronize cable into your pc or mac. Open itunes. Now press and hold on the home button on your iphone and plug the cable into it while still holding down the home button. Your iphone will now be in recovery mode and on itunes you will see the option that says restore. Click on that and your phone will be restored to factory settings. If you backed up your itunes all your apps will be downloaded back on to your phone. Including all your contacts and text messages. It took me a couple of tries to restore my phone when this happened so if it doesnt work the first time do it again. Took me two tries. What model iPad and what version of iOS is it currently running?
If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily. Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

i was able to download the iOS 6 update, then i go to Settings>general>software update>install now, but after i agree to terms it says: "verifying update" for a few seconds, then i get this error

I don't understand what you did. There are 2 ways to update. Nothing to download. If you downloaded something you did it wrong.
1. On the phone go to Settings/General/Software Update. Follow instructions on the screen.
2. Connect the phone to iTunes and click the Update button on the summary screen in iTunes.
There are 2 situations where these won't work. 1. The phone is jailbroken. 2. You have the beta iOS 6 on your phone. For that you need to get the update from a developer.

There is no such thing as an iPhone 's3'. There is a 3G which can only be updated to iOS 4.2.1 and a 3GS which can be updated to iOS 6.1.3.

Try forcing the phone into recovery mode. Disable ALL anti-virus & firewalls first.
Turn your phone off, then:
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, iTunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option of restoring from backup or as a new device.

Even I got same mesage but after restoring the phone using itunes, it worked for me. First restore and update your phone again using itunes.
