I bought a Sandisk Connect Media Drive, downloaded the app from iTunes. Before iOS 8, movies played fine. After iOS upgrade I can no longer play movies downloaded from iTunes to the media drive. Anyone else have a similar issue?

I checked with SanDisk's own online support and they indicate that they have notified Apple of the issue.
According to SanDisk, the problem lies with Apple not having the iOS 8 version of the Safari browser having DRM decoding enabled that the Media Drive relies upon to decode and play iTunes DRM titles. Non DRM encoded videos will play in the browser.
DRM audio is not effected as this is handled by the native iOS music app.
As of the date of this post SanDisk have not been given a timeframe by Apple for this issue to be resolved.
I hope that Apple resolves this issue quickly as I have a large collection of DRM video titles on a 128Mb memory card installed in the Media Drive that I am unable to view.

Because that is the Current iOS for your Device and you can ONLY update to the Latest... current... version.

First, update iTunes on your computer to the latest version. Then connect your iPhone to the same computer. On the Summary page for the iPhone that opens in iTunes, click on Check For Update (or install the update, if iTunes already says you have an upgrade.

You need to go into Settings > General > Reset > Erase all Content and Settings.
Once done you will be back as though it is a new iPhone and you can setup from the iCloud backup.

I tried it several more times afterwards and it said the same thing. Previously when I was updating my iPod touch to the latest version of IOS I made the mistake of not backing it up before, and lost all my music, books, and apps I had on there, etc. I didn't want to make that same mistake with my iPad, but like I said previously; it's not even letting me back it up, therefore I'm not going to update yet so I don't lose all my data, but if I don't update I can't update a lot of apps on my iPad, and such and overall my iPad just won't be as functional until I update it. There are a couple of things that you can try.
1. Quit iTunes, restart or reboot your iPad, restart your computer and then try again.
2. Delete any old backups that you have in iTunes and then try again.
Try no. 1 and see what happens.

First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. It could take well over an hour! Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here. You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without be charged again. Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1.3. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

The only version that you can update to is the current version i.e. 8.3 - unless your iPad is the first gen in which case it only supports up to iOS 5.1.1

If it won't talk at all to iTunes, you can hold down the power and home button for 10 seconds, it will power off, this is ok, then let go of the power button while holding the home button until iTunes sees it as a device in recovery mode. You can try to reinstall iOS7 and then restore.
