  • HT4623 Upgrade iPad 1st generation to iOS 4.4 ?

How do I upgrade my 1st generation to iOS 4.3 or higher?

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1.3. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.

  • HT4623 Upgraded to os7.2 on iPad 2  how do I turn off mirroring not in bottom slide menu

Can't shut off mirroring. Os 7.2 ipad2  checked in settings and the bottom slide up menu. Nothing. , any ideas?

Thank you for your reply !
That didn't work,  here's a more detailed problem description.  I have my ipad 2 in what's called a Kudo Case.
It is a built in battery and charges Ipad from the iPad wall charger and also Solar charging.  It has a mini HDMI output port. It worked fine before I upgraded to so 7.2 .  I used to be able to plug a cable from the iPad to the TV and it worked perfect. With NETFLIX .  Now it shows the big Netflix logo on TV screen, and I get Sound. The movie appears on my IPad but not on the tv
I get a small message imposed over movie on the IPad that says.   CANNOT PLAY VIDEO.  THE CONNECTED DISPLAY IS NOT SUPPORTED.  IF YOU ARE USING AIRPLAY. PLEASE DISABLE MIRRORING.
I CHECKED EVERYPLACE IN THE IPAD,  THERE IS NOTHING ABOUT AIRPLAY,  I CHECKED FOR A MIRRORING OPTION, AND IS NOT ON IPAD.
I DO NOT HAVE AN AIRPLAY DEVICE,AND AIRTV IS NOT ON THE IPAD ANYWHERE.  I DID AS YOU INSTRUCTED, RESETTING THE IPAD AND THE SAME HAPPENED ON THE TV.  IS THERE A WAY TO REINSTALL 7.2. Or. Go back to the previous  OS system?   I really appreciate your help!

  • HT4623 Upgrade to IOS 5

I have an iphone 3gs with IOS version 4.2.1.  Can I upgrade to IOS 5? If so, how do I do it?

As always, you can ONLY update to the latest available software.
    Why are you concerned?
Most never have an issue at all with any update.

That's up to you. You can setup as new, or restore from your previous phone's backup. Read here:

  • HT4623 Upgrade to iOS 8.0.2 problems on iPad2.

I recently upgraded my iPad 2 to 8.0.2 and it has significantly slowed my iPad.  I made a special trip to the Apple store and the rep said there is
no fix for it.  When I asked if anyone else has complained she said I was the first one.  I also tried to upgrade my newer iPad (4th gen) the message said I didn't have sufficient memory to do so.  I'm glad.  The rep at the Apple store was no help at all.  Anyone else having the same problems?

You are definitely not the only one with this problem. Some of the more recent updates were intended to correct some of the issues on iPad 2. We still have 2 iPad 2's. Both are virtually useless after upgrading to IOS 8. They are extremely slow and glitchy. We are going to restore to 7.1.2. I just don't believe that the iPad 2's are able to run 8, and should have been excluded from upgrade like the iPad1.

  • HT4623 Upgrading IOS

Was installing an app that required an upgrade so I did the upgrade to the latest version without backing up and now it is locked up on "Updating iCloud settings."  If I do not constantly tap the screen, it times out and stops.  How do I get past this

Thanks for the help, it's interesting, I held them down for over a minute and nothing happened.  After I released them the logo popped up and then it guided me through the rest of the setup questions.  Like many people who have not upgraded their phones for the same reason, I am not a fan of the new look.  Is there a way to "dumb it down" and install an earlier version.  I need to upgrade but not all the way to 7.
    Regardless, thanks again.  It worked.

  • HT4623 Upgrading software on iPad1 - will this slow the iPad down?

    Hello
I currently hand an iPad (first generation) and I was just wondering if I upgrade to the latest iOS would this slow my iPad down?

It should not slow it down any amount that you'd notice. If you're reluctant to do so at the remote chance that it might affect performance, hold off on updating if the Apps you want to use support your iOS version (you still did not state which version it is).
To see which iOS version your iPad is running:
    Settings>About>Version
OTOH, if the Apps you wish to run require at least iOS 5.1.1, then you pretty much have no choice and updating would be required.

  • HT4623 Upgrading to iOS 7.02

Hi, i installed iOS 7 on my iPhone 4S from the very beginning as I am member of the iOS development program. But now I am not able to upgrade to iOS 7.02. My phone states that version 7.0 is the actual one. How to upgrade to 7.02? Thx, Gerhard

Try to install the latest version of iTunes.
Or download firmware directly from Apple servers.
    Then:
    1. Launch iTunes.
    2. Open "Phone Info" tab.
    3. Click "Update" holding Shift-button (for Win) or Alt-button (for MacOS).
    4. Choose the firmare file (.ispw).
    5. Enjoy

  • HT4623 upgraded my iphone 3GS to higher iOS but unfortunately my phone has reset factory setting and now i can't use it anymore... tried to connect to iTunes but it would only say: WE ARE SORRY, WE ARE NOT ABLE TO CONTINUE YOUR ACTIVATION THIS TIME...

tried to upgrade my iPhone 3GS to a higher iOS but unfortunately it had reset factory setting... now i can't use my phone anymore... tried also to connect to iTunes as instructed but only appears: WE ARE SORRY, WE CANNOT CONTINUE YOUR ACTIVATION AT THIS TIME... WHAT SHOULD I DO? THANK YOU...

No, you do not need to nor should you jailbreak your iPhone.
If you jailbreak your iPhone, you void any remaining warranty and lose
all support from Apple including this forum.
4 possible causes to activation server unavailable message:
1] activation server is actually unavailable. Happens very rarely and
does not last long on those rare occasions. Solution is to try again.
2] your firewall/internet security software/antivirus are preventing connection
to the activation server. Solution is to temporarily turn off your firewall/internet
security software/antivirun until you have activated your iPhone.
3] your iPhone has been jailbroken or otherwise hacked/modified.
4] the computer you are using to activate the iPhone has been used to
    jailbreak an iOS device.
For causes 3] & 4] you are on your own as Terms of Use for this forum prohibit
discussion of jailbroken/modified iOS devices. Google may provide some direction.
Be advised that jailbreaking/hacking your iPhone may prevent the iPhone from
    being able to be activated.

  • HT4623 Upgrade wiped my IPhone software

Help please - upgrade through Itunes has wiped my 4S IPhone.  The phone refuses to resore, despite, restarting computer, checking for latest itunes version and numerous attempts.  Now unable to restore the phone software, or load anything. Phone is empty.

Thanks for your reply, much appreciated.  If you mean holding start buttons down simultaneously, I did try that suggestion earlier.   In the end the problem was solved by re-trying on a computer at home.  My guess is the security environment at work was somehow blocking the the restore.

  • HT4623 upgrading to ios 7, cannot connect to apple store to activate iphone

My iphone 5 is connected to my windows 8 PC running the latest version of iTunes. The PC has no connectivity problems. But my iPhone cannot connect to the iTunes store to activate the recentely upgraded phone (to IOS 7). There have been a number of error messages. The latest was as follows:
"We could not complete youre iTunes Store request. And unknown error occured (0x80090304).
There was an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later"
This has been going on for over an hour.
Is this just an issue with too many people trying to activate at the same time? Which implies that this SHOULD work later. Or is there a problem specific to my phone/software?

Same problem here. Getting used to the idea I probably won't have use of my phone for the rest of the day. My mistake was attempting to eject a USB drive as the software was upgrading on the iPhone (4s). Immediately received an error message and was forced to select Restore iPhone as my only option. After Restore successfully completed getting the phone to factory settings with ios7 loaded, the activation process began. This is where the nightmare took over. Activation needs to contact the Apple Servers via iTunes Store apparently. So, yeah, gonna have to wait until the US is asleep tonight to get through, in all likelihood. Would have been nice had Apple posted a clearer warning to disconnect all other peripherals during upgrade. But with Jobs now dead, there's not as much interest in attempting to simulate how users might break the system before public release. Ah well. Nothing for it now but to wait.
