HT4623 Very upset about no update for iPad 1!!!

How is it that I have a near mint condition, 3 1/2 year old piece of "cutting edge" equipment that cost upwards of $600 and it cannot be updated further?? This is very disappointing, because now half of the abilities I had before are now gone. This is not acceptable, and I will never buy an apple product again. I cant justify buying an overly-priced tablet/phone/computer that will outdate itself not because of hardware problems, but because the company I bought it from decided to throw it to the wayside without any viable program for affordable replacement!!! This is pathetic, and I will not continue to be a customer of a company that makes me play the "catch up with technology" game to make more money off of me. I will use this iPad until I can no longer get anymore use out of it than a paperweight, and then I'll certainly be looking into other options that are more cost and long-term use friendly..If I am wrong about there being a replacement program for my iPad please let me know. I find it hard to believe that they disincluded the iPad 1 from being updated anymore and hung out all of us customers out to dry without some sort of replacement assistance program that would bring new hardware into the picture without so hard of a hit to the pocketbook.

Why not tell Apple rather than posting in a user-only forum?

I've downloaded current update for iPad 2 but it won't install. It keeps coming up as an error. I have deleted many apps but didn't help the situation... What's causing this and how do I fix this?

What is the latest iOS for iPad 2? Is it iOS 7 or can you update to 8?
all I remember is that my iPad mini performed poorly under iOS 7. Try to update it to the very latest version. Also you will have to use iOS 8.1.3, because 8.1.2 is no longer signed in case you were trying to install that. You can get the latest IPSW from http://IPSW.me just enter in your device and it will forward you to the right Apple ios download link.
Another thing is keeping your device memory free, if you have a 16 gig device, it's harder to keep space free. my iPad mini is 16 gig, but all I can ever keep free is 1 GB so I keep it at that. Turn off "iCloud photo sharing beta" and that will help a little bit. also when you do a restore from iTunes, don't restore your backup right away, see how it performs fresh, and then add your apps back in one at a time you might have to sacrifice photos and other personal things for performance.

  • HT4623 Why can't I update  my iPad 1?

Why can't apple support an update for iPad original to iOS 6 or later...many apps require it????

First, a filter would be good and would make if easier to find. You should suggest this to Apple. But every app in the App Store already does tell you what version of the OS is needed to run it. Read it's description. It's not as easy, but will sabe you time in the long run.
Second, your've misimformed about installing old versions of Apps. Apple does allow you to install legacy versions of applications but this is entirely on App develoeprs to make them available. What you may understand is that it is expensive and time consuming for developers to support multiple versions of apps on legacy operating systems. In addition, many new apps take advantage of hardware and software features of new devices that simply do not exist in older hardware. Because of that, and other incompatibilities with developer back-end data makes using and supporting those old versions impossible.

  • I would like to reload the recent software update for iPad.  When bringing it back up I skipped the Apple ID step and should not have.

  • Unable to download update for Ipad

Every time I try and download the software update for ipad 1 it says the network connection timed out. What am I doing wrong?

    Nothing.
Either the server is getting slammed or your ISP is having problems.
    Wait awhile and try again.

How can apple send out an os update that renders an important function of the software/hardware to not work? They knowingly have sent out this new os update for iPad which makes airplay nonfunctining! I need this for my business!  I could understand if they didn't know, but it is all over the Internet! When I went in to have it revert back to os6 (which worked fine!) I was actually asked if I had done any research before I installed the upgrade! As if this is the consumer's fault for being dumb enough to fall for the upgrade!

That is not what I have discovered, nor what others have discovered, nor what I was told when I went the Genius Bar.  I cannot remotely mirror to my MacBook Pro and it only started the day after I installed the upgrade.  We tested it with an iPad that had not been upgraded, no problem.

    Hi,
i'm a new member of this community. I've recently learn about flashback malware and other threats to Mac devices. I've installed the new Mac OS X update for Lion 10.7, and the flashback removal tool. What about the update for Flash Player? Should i install it? Otherwise, should i permanently remove this app?
    I realy need some advice.
    Thank's to all.

Be sure to install the latest version of Safari (version 5.1.7) which is available via Software Update (in the Apple menu) if you have not already installed it. This update will automatically disable older versions of Flash when new versions are available, and will instruct you on how to install the latest version on your system. This should help keep your system safe from any vulnerabilities in Flash.
Note that this is only useful if you use Safari, though other browsers have their own update mechanisms you should research and enable or configure to your liking.

It means that Apple is no longer producing the iPad 3rd generation....they are no longer making that version. The iPad 4 and the Mini iPad will both be running iOS 6 just like the iPad 3 is running (if you have updated) and there is no reason to believe that the iPad 3 will not be supported with software updates for some time to come.
So yes - you will be able to get software updates for the iPad 3 in the future.

  • Is there going to be no more update for iPad 1 ?.

Is there going to be no more update for iPad 1 ?.

This is an iPad user to user forum, so we don't have any way of knowing what Apple will do. But probably, iOS 5.1.1 is the last update.

  • HT4623 Update for iPad 2

I am trying to update from iOS4.2 to iOS5 on my iPad. When I goto the screen about where it should check for updates it does not. When I goto iTunes there is not category for software updates. When I goto the Apple site the only thing I can view is data on the software, no "Download" button. Any help
    would be much appreciated. Thanks.

    Kimmy270-
Run iTunes and look under the iTunes menu for Check for Updates....  You may not have the latest version if it does not give you an option to update your iPad.
I do not think you will be able to update an iPad 2 to iOS 5.  It will probably only allow updating to iOS 6.  I'm running iOS 6 on my iPad 2 with no problem.

I am trying to update my iPad 2,but hen I go to settings/ general, there is no update software to click on!  It goes from about to usage?

There are countless posts about this.  There's a problem at Apple's end and has been so for several days.
However, I have no trouble updating using itunes on my computer and later syncing to my device.

You are as far as you can be with the original iPad; only iPad 2 and greater will update to 7+

  • HT4623 I am trying to update my iPad 2 but as is shown in the update info it says that there should be an update button under the about tab. I don't have this option. What do I do now?

I am trying to update my iPad 2 but I don't have the upgrade tab in my general list?

You do not have iOS 5 on your iPad so you have to update by using a computer via the latest version of iTunes. You can connect the iPad to your computer and launch iTunes. Select the iPad on the left side under the devices heading. Click on the Summary Tab on the right. Click on Check for Update.
After you update to iOS 5, you will have Software Update in you settings and can update via WiFi OTA.
