What do I do if there is no software update option in the settings of my iphone 3GS?
In order to update over the air you will need to be on IOS 5.0 or higher.
For you to update your 3GS you will need to plug it to your computer and open itunes. itunes should detect that your phone needs an upgrade, suggest doing a backup before updating.
NOte if you hava an iphone 3G the highest IOS is 4.2.1

Hello, I have an ipad2 with iOS 4.2.7 but am trying to update it to a 5 or so. The problem is that the"settings" environment on my pad does not have the "software update" option. Please what do I do to enable me update my iOS? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1.3. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

I can't update my iPad iOS from version 4.3, there is no software update menu in the settings panel
I can't seem to find a way to update the iOS version on my iPad. It is at version 4.3.3. There is no software update menu option on the settings screen. The apple download page does not let me update it from there either.
You do not have iOS 5 on your iPad and so you don't have Software Update in the Settings. You have to update by using a computer via the latest version of iTunes. You can connect the iPad to your computer and launch iTunes. Select the iPad on the left side under the devices heading. Click on the Summary Tab on the right. Click on Check for Update.
After you update to iOS 5 or later, you will have Software Update in you settings and can update via WiFi OTA. But .... If you are using the original iPad you can only update to iOS 5.1.1.

You only have the option if you are already running iOS 5. If you are trying to update the iOS, you have to use iTunes on a computer to update the iPad.
Instructions here for all iOS versions. Make sure that you go down to the section about using iTunes. The first part of the article only applies to you if you are already running iOS 5.
