HT4623 When i try to restore my Iphone 3GS i get an error code at the end code 1002
Hi im new to iphone, my phone says it is in restore mode at the end of restore i get the following message. The Iphone"Iphone" could not be restored. An unkown error occurred (1002)
Please can you help i have tried all the things recommened in the list on the help page.

Before this it randomly said "your Phone can no longer send or recieve messages. Please restore to reactivate." Then, instead of restoring it, I restarted it. When I turned it back on it said "activation required." So then I tried to restore it and at the last step "restoring firmware" it freezes and gives me the error code (-1)! After this, it started randomly turning off and plus I couldn't use it at all! I put it in restore mode to try and restore it again and I got the same error message. I tried this on a windows 7 and a macbook with an updated iTunes and got the same error code. I tried it with 2 different sync cords too! What do I do!
Are you running modified software on your phone? This error seems to be common if the firmware has been modified and you're trying to restore the phone again.

I am using my husband's old iPod touch and when I try to connect it to iTunes I get that error message. It is recognized in my computer as unspecified under Devices and Printers
Thanks. I had searched for that error message but had the whole number and nothing came up. I followed the directions and now it is recognized. The only thing I hadn't done before was to disconnect my external hard drive. Go figure.

Trying to restore my phone. I have it in recovery mode. I have iTunes updated and I've done the terminal hosts thing when I clicked "more information". No matter what I do I still get the same pop-up. It'll extract files for anywhere of 10 seconds to 2 minutes and then the pop-up shows. I hope i've given enough info if not please ask for more. Also I'm using a mac computer.
Problem solved. I misread one of the steps in the terminal walkthrough.

When I try to update my iPod Touch, I get an error message saying "The iPod Software update server could not be contacted. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later." Has anyone else had that and how do you end up updating your iPod?

Try:
- Powering off and then back on your router.
- iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
- Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers

OpenDNS IP Addresses
- For one user uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes resolved the problem
- Try on another computer/network
- Wait if it is an Apple problem -

2. Disable ALL security apps (firewall, antivirus/spyware) running on your computer.
3. Don't try to downgrade the iOS version. This isn't supported
4. If you EVER tried to hack thie phone or use apps like tinyumbrella, you may have to edit the hosts file on your computer to remove references to gs.apple.com
5. If your phone has been hacked (jailbroken, iOS downgrade, or unauthorized unlocking), you may not be able to restore the phone to Apple specs again.
"This device is not eligible for the requested build: Also sometimes displayed as an error 3194. If you receive this error, update to the latest version of iTunes. 3rd party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue, to resolve please follow Troubleshooting security software issues. Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to perform unauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod; follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. Also, using an older or modified .ipsw file can cause this error. Try restoring moving the current .ipsw file aside, or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw."

ITunes crashes when i try to restore my iphone.
my iphone 4 has a version 5.1.1(9B206), Carrier AT&T12.0, Baseband 04.12.01, When i try to restore the phone halfway iTunes gets crashed. I have the latest iTunes 10.6.3 and also ipsw of 5.1.1. What can i do now?

Also, check your hosts file to verify that it's not blocking iTunes from communicating with the update server. See iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > Mac OS X > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. Did you try the things listed here? Error 3194, Error 17, or "This device isn't eligible for the requested build" - Apple Support Is your device jailbroken? Have you ever used the computer to jailbreak a device? Are you trying to load an iOS other than the current one? What version of iPhone are you using? Is this occurring when attempting to update via iTunes and the computer?
