HT4623 Why can't I download iOS 7 on my iPod?

I am very frustrated. I just wanted to download some podcasts but apparently MUST download the podcast app requires iOS 7.
So I checked for a software update but my iPod says that there are no updates. I currently have 6.1.6. I saw on here that iOS7 is compatible (mostly) with the iPod touch so why does it not show up for OTA update?
Do I have to download it with my computer?
I just really cannot believe how NOT user friendly this process has been.

You have a 4G iPod since there was not 6.1.6 for a 5G iPod. As Apple said in June, iOS 7 is not compatible with the 4G iPod.
All the iOS devices compatible (iPhone 4 and later, iPad 2 and later, and 5G iPod touch) with iOS 7 have at least 512 MB of memory (RAM). The 4G iPod only has 256 MB

Everytime I try to download the new iOS 6 software it comes close but then tells me it failed, how can this be resolved?

Connect your iPad to iTune (computer) and Check for Updates. Backup before you proceed with update.

    Why can't I download iOS 6 on my ipad2?

Try to reboot the iPad by holding down the on/off button and home button at the same time for about 10 seconds till you see the apple logo and let it restart. Then go look again in Updates. See if that helps.

  • Why can't I download iOS 5 to my iPad 2?

I don't have a computer I can sync my iPad to.  I have been trying to download the upgrade from iTunes but no luck.   Many of the apps I have on it require ios5 to update them.

If your iOS is pre 5, then you have to do the software update via a computer. THere is no other way. The ability to update 'over the air' comes with iOS5.

  • HT4623 Why can't I have IOS 6 on my iPad?

I understand that it can only have IOS 5.1, but there are apps that demand IOS6 (and they don't require a camera).

The iPhone 3GS got a severly neutered version of iOS 6 lacking in many features. Also the smaller screen demands less RAM than the iPads larger screen
The fact is Apple deemed the iPad incapable of satisfactorily running iOS 6 and decided not to release it for it.
Had it gotten the update it probably would have made the iPad unusable.

  • Why can't I download the songs from my ipod to my compute

I'm getting insanely frustrated right now. I got an ipod about a month ago and was ecstatic. I could finally get the 12 gb of music off my computer (all songs I've taken the time to copy from my own legal cds) and onto my ipod. So I got the new itunes and I copied copied all the files to my library and then from there onto my ipod.
I then made sure they all played on the ipod and once they did I made sure that itunes was set to manually manage songs and then removed them from my library clearing my hard drive of them.
Then my ipod starts having issues, it will just randomly restart for no apparent reason, so I take it in to the apple store and they just want to restore it which will wipe all my music. So I say uhm no, can I please back it up first and they say they don't support that.
What the heck is going on here, why does it make any sense to have to leave the music on teh computer?!? It's a portable music device!
I found there are programs that will copy the files back but they cost money which makes no sense. Basically Apple has hijacked my songs and won't give them back.
I'd email them directly about the issue but I can't find any sign of an email link anywhere on teh webpage.
Any help would be much appreciated and please forgive the rant but I'm really getting sick of my ipod restating constantly.

You can't sync or drag your non iTMS music back directly from an iPod to iTunes. The transfer of non iTMS content is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod to discourage it's use as a device for mass file sharing. However there is a manual (free) method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
Not all the third party programs are commercial offerings and you can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
If you want to check out the YamiPod utility it is free but you are also free to make a donation to it's developer if you find it useful: YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
The transfer of purchased content to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7, look under under File>"Transfer Purchases from iPod". A paragraph on it has been added to this article: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer

  • Why can't I download the latest iTunes to my mac which is a 10.5.8

I have got myself in a real mess, I installed the new iOS 7 onto my iPad and I don't like it so I imported all my new photos to my mac, then I reset all my settings on my iPad thinking that it would go back to the original settings but alas didn't work.
Then I thought I would put up with it but now I cannot put my photos etc back onto the iPad because my mac needs the version of iTunes but when I try to install the new version I get a messy come up that iTunes cannot install this new version on my mac which is a 10.5.8.
So now I am stuck with the software on the iPad I don't like and I cannot sync the iPad to iTunes
So why can't I download the new version of iTunes to the mac which is 10.5.8

Put simply, the minimum system requirements for iTunes have changed. You need a Mac running at least OS X 10.6.8.
It's best you look online to see if your model of Mac can be upgraded to at least 10.6.8 "Snow Leopard". It should still be possible to order a copy of Snow Leopard if so.

  • Why can't I install iOS 8.0 on my iPhone 5?

Why can't I install iOS 8.0 on my iPhone 5?  When I try to install it, a message says that I need 4.6 GB of storage available to install the update to the operating system, although the specs from Apple state that the update is 957 MB.  I have 1.2 GB available.  Do I have to delete all music (4.6 GB) and some of my apps to install this update?

If you have a Computer with iTunes you will not need to make that room available.  If you do have to upgrade via WiFi you will have to make nearly as much memory available as it says (a little less typically works).  Any Apps you purchased will be available in the App Store if you go to Update and click on Purchases.  Then you will see all the Apps that you have ever purchased from the App Store and you can download them for free.  With regard to any of you Photos or Music that you may need to delete to make room you will need to ensure that those were already in some Backup at iCloud or on your Computer.  Even though iOS 8 is less than a GB the process of downloading and unpacking and preparing things takes the extra memory.

    Why can't I download IOS6 updateon my  Iphone4. I have more than required 2.5GB storage available ?

There is a box under the IOS 6 software update. The box says "download and Install" but I can't highlight the box to activate it. Under that there is a sentence that says "update requires at least 2.5 GB of available storage. I have 9.6 available.
