hi i tried updating my iphone 4 screen went blank and then turned on and is now only showing i tunes symbol and usb connector why is this and how do i get rid of it so frustrating thanks
That is known as Recovery mode and the device needs to be connected to iTunes. You could also do a search of these forums for iPhone recovery mode.

Recovery Mode
1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: Data will be lost. You may have to repeat the above many times. -
why wont my phone charge when i plug my usb into my macbook air?
Most USB ports can't supply the power required to charge a phone.
The original USB port was limited to 0.5 amps at 5 volts which is 2.5 watts.
Your phone probably has a 10 watt charger.
Recent machines allow more power from the USB port but I doubt they allow 2 amps which is what would be required to get 10 watts. Even if they did a 2 amp draw is going to be a heavy load on the MBA battery. -

Dumb question.. Why do some texts show up in blue and some in green on the iPhone?
Not dumb at all. The blue ones are iMessages, while the green ones are regular text messages.

I just got iPhone 5s and after a day when I open the notifications from the top that make the phone shows the apple sign and back to unlock what can I do as I reset all settings and nothing changed ??
So after looking a bit closer i have noticed that when i have the phone plugged into the computer it shows the songs but when i dont have it plugged in and i go so the song icon on the bottom of the music menu screen it says i have no songs!

I've tried updating in the following conditions:
1. "Over The Air" at one location;
2. On a Windows computer running the latest version of iTunes at the same location;
3. On Mavericks (10.9.4) running the latest version of iTunes (11.4 (18)) at another location;
4. On Mavericks, latest iTunes over a VPN with a server location in US;
5. On Mavericks, using a 3G connection shared from an iPhone;
6. On Yosemite developer preview with a previous version of iTunes at the same location.
I got the same results in most cases except for an occasional error with code 9; I'll try again in other conditions.
Interestingly enough, I've successfully updated my devices to iOS 7.1.2 and to iOS8 GM without any issues at the same location but, of course, no two conditions are exactly the same -

i don't know why...Sometimes it can be something very simple and easy to fix. Before you get into any involved troubleshooting, quit iTunes, restart your Mac, restart your iPad and then try to sync again.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
If this doesn't work, then try the more involved stuff. -
All of a sudden my personal hot spot isn't working. It only comes up with Bluetooth and USB connection options. Why would that be?

The phone is backed up on ICloud. I connected it to my computer to download some photos and Itunes indicated that and update was available for the phone 7.0.2. So I let it download the update. I later received a message that the update was unsuccessful. The creen on the iphone is showing the itune symbol and a cable. But itunes will not recognise the phone.
Turning the phone on and off comes up with the same screen. I have tried pressing the ON Off Button and the Home button at the same time for 10 seconds but get the same result.

and have to restore manually. you can do this by shift + mouse click the restore button in iTunes this will give you an opendialogue box to select the iPSW from which you want to update your iPhone. please make sure you have all the backup stored since this will be a restore not an update so you data will be lost and you will have to restore your data from backup.

hold the Home button and then connect it to iTunes, keep pressing the home key till the time you see a message on iTunes saying 'itunes has detected a device in recovery mode' click ok a,release home key and click on Restore -

In the middle of an update, it call closed. Itunes keeps saying that it's not installed, even though ive tried reinstalling multiple times. All my iphone is doing it showing the ituns symbol and a charger. How can I fix this???
