HT4628 Connected but can't get online.

On my iMac, I keep getting the msg "This webpage is not available" even though I'm definitely connected through my wifi. My ipad is working fine. Any ideas? This happened overnight. Thanks people. I really want to avoid having to spend $$ on this if possible.

When you switch device connections to the cable router, you must cut the power on the cable modem (and remove the battery if there is one) for a few minutes before reconnecting it. Otherwise, the cable modem will only connect to the MAC address of the device that it was last successfully connected to.

  • Connected to the network but can't get online

Hi there- I have a WRT54G router that is wirelessly connected to an ibook. There are times that there is an additional dell laptop that i need to get online with and although the dell says it is connected to the network (with excellent strength) it can't get online i get the 'problem loading page'. I have used more than one computer with this router before, although in a different apt with a different provider (if that matters). Anyway, this is truly annoying so if anyone has any insight that would be great! I did read in the forums that its possible there is only one IP address, and admittedly my knowledge of networking is basic at best, i know that more than one computer has been connected in the past. I did try turning off the mac then connecting the Dell and it still didn't work. Thanks in advance for ANY advice! Sara

Hi . go through this link for reference . Here , under the "basic wireless settings" subtab , you need to change the wireless network name to any non-linksys name and change the channel to either 1 or 11 .

  • Connected to WIFI but can't get online

I am one of the many it seems.. but nothing works
    Yhis happened suddenly:
iPod says I am connected to my home network but I get a not connected error message when I try to get online.
Did the reboot routine.. forget site and re connect..
2 PC's on the network are doing fine.
One PC got a message that there is a device on the network causing a problem.
    HELP

    Oscarl,
You are on a iMac forum. There are forums for iPods. I would recommend starting here then reposting so you can get the assistance you need. Look on the left hand column and you will see all the different models of iPods. Choose yours and then you will be on the right path.
Also if the iPod is new you can call AppleCare or you can visit an Apple Store for help.

  • AE works, modem works, but can't get online

This problem is driving me batty! I recently purchased a new G4 Powerbook (running Tiger 10.4.2) and Airport Express directly from Apple. At the time I didn't have internet access at my house yet but was planning on getting it within a few weeks. I was ecstatic that in the meantime I was able to take my brand spanking new computer and AE to a friend's house and get online wirelessly from there quite easily by connecting the AE to their home router. I later had Adelphia come out to my house and install cable internet. The cable tech didn't know beans about routers but he did get my internet working pretty quickly through a direct ethernet connection from the RCA DCM425 modem to my laptop. After he left I surfed online for a bit and then decided to try hooking up the AE, expecting it to work as simply as it had at my friend's house.
    Ha!
I have been messing with this thing for nearly a week now and have not been able to figure out what in the world is the problem. It works beautifully at my friend's house and not at all at mine. AE has a green light, the modem lights look right and it works when connected directly to my computer, I have a full signal and airport is on and the checkmark is on next to my network and interference robustness is on and Internet Connect says I'm connected via ethernet and all systems are go.......but when I try to open a webpage (any page), Safari sits and thinks for the longest time before telling me I'm not connected to the ethernet. Power cycling everything and exhaustively searching all the settings hasn't helped.
It can't be the AE because it works at my friend's house, it can't be the modem because it works when I'm hooked in directly, so it has to be some setting somewhere in my laptop, right? I know I'm supposed to be on DHCP, not PPPoE, I've tried it with and without distributed IP addresses, I've gone through Network Diagnostics, Airport setup, Admin Utility, network preferences, Safari preferences....I've tried resetting everything to the defaults, I've downloaded the latest Airport updates, I've tried using a different browser, I've tried holding my breath and crossing my fingers and turning blue, but nothing works. Airport Express is supposed to behave as a wireless router...but instead it's behaving like a mute piece of pretty plastic and I'm losing sleep at night because I can't stand being beaten by a machine. Please help - I'm losing my mind!! Thank you o angels of the discussion boards...

DHCP and PPPoE and where they apply (i.e. at the internet or wireless side of the AX and in the Powerbook OS) can be confusing.
The AX configuration may not be what your cable modem needs, although it may have been fine with your friends internet connection (was it a cable modem like yours or a DSL modem router?).
Can you check your laptop Network Preferences settings for the successful ethernet wired connection to your cable modem - ( but make sure it is connected up and working for the internet first). Then check what it shows for the Built-in Ethernet configuration TCP and PPPoE tabs.
This should clarify what is needed for the AX configuration and the Powerbook when using the AX, and maybe put you on the right track.

  • Airport connected but can't get internet....PLEASE HELP!!!

I am a college student who went to college and used an apple airport base station for my mbp and everything worked fine, and before i went to school i used my parents linksys wireless router and it all worked fine. i came home from college today and used the internet (over the linksys router) for about 5 minutes, then came back a few hours later. after i came back my computer said i was connected via airport to the linksys router but i cant load any page at all with any internet browser, also aim and msn messenger wont work. when i get on the internet i get this message "safari can’t open the page “http://www.yahoo.com/”. The error was: “lost network connection” (NSURLErrorDomain:-1005) Please choose Report Bug to Apple from the Safari menu, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message." i can connect if i plug my mbp in and i have tried the network diagnostics for airport several times, and it comes back saying that i am connected and it is all working fine, but its not. any help would be great. thanks.

I have the same problem...New MacBook Pro connects fine to Airport at home. Shows connected to WPA network at work but no Internet connectivity - or it takes a VERY long time to pull anything up. Have run the Network Diagnostics successfully and Mac thinks it is connected, but still not able to reach web sites.
Have followed instructions here: Article ID: 106799 Mac OS: Long Delay Before Web Pages Start to Load, Then Load Suddenly at Normal Speed without success. Can hardwire my MacBook Pro and use the network in this way.
I am a network admin and I set-up the wireless so I am familiar with the details, but am truly baffled why my Mac will not connect to the Internet.

  • I'm connected but can't get browser, email or even FTP ????

Special thanks for the article "Sun PPPoE on Solaris" by Phil Dibowitz and "Setting Up Solaris OS to Work with Cable Modems" by Muhammad Talha (I have DSL however). Without these 2 articles I wouldn't have gotten as far as I did.
First off I'm running on an AMD CPU with Realtek 8139 PCI plug in card.
Ok here is the problem. It looks like I have connected but I can't get the browser , email or even terminal FTP to work. I think I'm at the gateway but I can't get onto the internet.
Here is how my system looks right after I boot up .
    # ifconfig -a
    lo0: flags=2001000849<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST,IPv4,VIRTUAL> mtu 8232 index 1
    inet 127.0.0.1 netmask ff000000

    inet 216.8.174.237 --> 216.8.136.29 netmask ffffff00
    ether 0
I'm connected right? But why 2 IP addresses (one for me and one for the gateway?)
Solaris gives me notice during BOOT that it can't configure rtls0: for DHCP but then connects somehow? later on in the auto connect script (script copied from Phils article)
Also Phil recommends running debug to generate the connect-errors file. Here it is ! You can see that I HAVE CONNECTED !

    >As I understood, you have modem that is connected to the Internet and computers obtain IP from it. Am I correct?
If yes, and your line is some kind of xDSL (for example ADSL or something like that), probably that your modem is router (that kind of lines, there is no real modem with dial up, it just logs on).
I'm only using a 3COM Home Connect HUB. At one time when we had up to 4 computers on it, we were automatically re-assigned up to 4 different IP addresses each time.
    >The problem with DHCP and such router is that your computer will have hostname "unknown", if you want other hostname, give it permanent IP and setup program will let you to specify IP address.
I will need to pay my service provider more for a "static IP address" What you are talking about is a "static IP" . Am I right?
    >*How to know what IP you have put in default router? On your Windows computer run "ipconfig" command and see what is IP of Gateway (in Solaris it is called default router).
I got it ! Sorry about that you said try on the Windows computer. Thanks.
On my wifes computer it is 169.254.XX.XX
    On mine also 169.254.XX.XX
The XX are not the same.
Thanks for all of your help.

  • I have a connection, but can't get any internet or email

I have two macs. The new one suddenly won't open any internet pages or email. I can't use Safari or Firefox or my mail. The old G4 cube on the same cable modem is having no problems at all. I called my ISP, and everything is fine from their end, and they can see my IP address and it matches what they have, so all should be working. On the imac, it says I have an internet connection, gives me an IP address, and claims I'm connected. But when I open Safari or Firefox or my mail, I get nothing.
    Any suggestions?

I have checked the network in the system preference. The Built-In-Ethernet has a green light beside it and says "Built-In-Ethernet is currently active and has the IP address (bunch of numbers). You are connected to the Internet via Built-In-Ethernet."
When I click on "Assist me" and then "Diagnostics", The Network Diagnostics screen pops up and Scans for a while. There's five tabs on the left. Built-In-Ethernet is green, Network Settings is Green, and ISP is green. After scanning for a while, the tab by Internet goes red and says Failed below it, and the tab by Server goes red and says Failed below it. Then it asks me "Have you ever used this computer to successfully connect to the internet?" I say yes, and then it asks for the network port configuration that I would like to use. I choose Built-In-Ethernet, and it scans for a while and tells me "This computer appears to have a working internet connection, but cannot find www.apple.com. You may have typed the address incorrectly.
My neighbor has a wireless network that is unsecured. I use it all the time on my ipod touch. My imac finds it, connects to it, but I still have the same problem. No browser or mail will work.

  • Itouch is connected but can't get email to work from Verizon account

    Hi,
I have a new I-touch which is connecting fine to my wireless and will recieve and send email from an alternate email server.
But I cannot get the settings correct for my verizon.net address to work on the I-touch.  It confuses me as my email address is verizon.net, but my old settings on my pc are incoming.yahoo.verizon.net and outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net. Should I be trying incoming.verizon.net, or incoming.yahoo.verizon.net.
I have my user name without the @verizon.net and I have checked the password many times.
I have the port setting at 587.
    It is on password authentication.
Can anyone share with me which settings are working for them???
    Thanks,
    Laura

I don't have a iTouch, but I do have an iPhone ...  the answer to your question depends on what "experience" you have when you get your mail from Verizon.   Are you using the Yahoo! portal experience perhaps?
If so, the iPhone has a Yahoo! account profile which appears to work.   You use your full @verizon.net email address as the logon userid and your email password for Verizon.
    Standard POP also works ...
    POP Account Information
       Name: Joe User
       Address:  [email protected]
       Description: Verizon
    Incoming Mail Server
       Host Name:  incoming.yahoo.verizon.net
       User Name:  [email protected]
       Password: ******
    Outgoing Mail Server
       SMTP outgoing.yahoo.version.net    ->
          Primary Server  ->
             Host Name: outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net
             User Name: [email protected]
             Password: ******
             Use SSL:  On
             Authentication:  Password
             Server Port:  465
    Advanced
       Deleted Message
          Remove: After One Week
       Incoming Settings
          Use SSL:  Off
          Authentication: Password
          Delete from server: Never
          Server Port: 110
Some of these settings are obviously personal preference, but there should be enough here for you to piece toogether what you need to get up and running.

  • Imac wi-fi, it says I have a connection but can't get any internet access

    Hi All,
Help please, just got a new iPad air and trying to use the Wi-Fi function on the iMac to access internet on the iPad. Used to be able to do this on previous tablet but now iMac won't wi-fi any of my devices- including new iPad. All devices and iMac say there is a connection but when I open internet apps it tells me there is no connection. Have reset iPad, turned wi-fi on/off, turned internet sharing on/off everything! Think the problem is the iMac, can anyone suggest a solution?

  • I'm connected to my airport network but can't get online

2 days ago, i was online and everything was working fine.
Yesterday, i tried going online and i was told that i was not connected to the internet even though i had full signal bars from my airport. I've restarted my computer a dozen times, checked all my internet connection settings, but nothing worked, i'm still being told that i'm not connected to the internet although internet connect says i am. contrarily, network diagnostics says i am not connected.
this happened to me once before over the summer. i gave up and didn't use my computer for about a week. when i tried using it again, the internet was just fine. however, i do not have the luxury of waiting a week because my school curriculum requires the use of the internet.
what's wrong with my computer and how is it that i connected just fine 2 days ago, but cannot since then? please help!

if relevant, my software versions are as follows:
    Safari 3.1.1
    Internet Connect 1.4.3
    Network Diagnostics 1.0.2

    You might want to update Safari to 3.12. I would empty the safari cache. (Safari>Empty Cache). Then quit Safari. System Preferences>Network>Show:Airport>TCP/IP. Insert the following into the DNS Servers box;
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
then hit apply. Now launch Safari. You should also try powering down modem, router and Mac and power up in 2 minute sequence; modem, router, Mac.

  • On the network but can't get online

I am a teacher on a school wireless network and I can’t seem to connect to the internet. My problem has baffled the tech guys here so I was hoping you might have a suggestion.
I have put the proper password and code in and my signal icon at the top says I am connected to the school wireless network but when I actually try and go online the web browser is blank and eventually times out.
Other laptops have no problem connecting and as far as I can tell, mine is set up exactly the same as theirs. Can anyone think of any reason for this or have any suggestion of how I could fix it?
    Thanks

In case you are wondering what this TCP/IP business is. Getting connected requires two separate steps. The first is hooking up with a wireless router, which is equivalent to plugging in an ethernet cable; this is where the WEP password comes in. After that is done, though, your laptop still has to be set up to communicate properly with other computers on the network. Typically, this is done by something called DHCP that gives your laptop a temporary IP address for proper routing of data packet. Your IT spec should have told you how to configure iBook to do this; does he or she know anything about Macs? One would think that a school network would have plenty of Macs.

  • Palm TX can connect but can't get any web sites

    Hi,
I was just able to get my Pam TX to connect to my home network, by manually entering the IP address.  Now it instantly says "cannot find requested page" as soon as I enter any web address.  Am I missing something?
Is there something I need to upgrade?  I have a Verizon FiOS router, WEP connection...
    Many thanks,
    HA

    View Solution.

Instead of entering the name of the PC, try entering the IP address for it on your network.
I strongly suggest setting "static IP's" for both your TX and PC in your router.  This will ensure better success of connection for a wifi HotSync.

  • Connected to the network, but can't get out to the Internet

Here’s my problem… After my previous router died, I recently installed a Netgear wireless router (WGT624NA) with 128-bit WEP security, and created a new wireless network. My Powerbook G4 found the network, and I was able to put in my WEP password, and everything seemed to work fine … for a while. In the last couple of days, I can’t get to any Internet sites.
I’m connected to the wireless network fine, with a strong signal level, and I seem to be able to Ping out. But when I try to go to (any) Internet site on Safari, I now get “Safari can’t connect to the server”. I’ve gone through the Network Setup Assistant, put in the correct WEP code, and after hitting “continue” from the “You’re now ready to try connecting… “ screen, get “Unable to establish a network connection”.
I seem to be connected, but can’t get out. Help.

    Hi there,
A UPS (Uninterruptible power supply) is a battery back up, so if you power goes out you can finish up what you're working on and shut down normally.
I had a similar incident this week, power went out all computers, modem and router went out. After power was restored all started up fine and looked good. Wireless router showed I was connected to the internet but could not surf any site. I had changed my email account password several weeks earlier (email account provided by my ISP) and did not think this had anything to do my boradband connection, but I was wrong.
To make a long story short, I had to update the password as it related to my broadband connection. The connection was there, it just did not recognize my new password because I had changed it... If you control the account and you've changed any passwords associated with account yu will have to update or your landlord will have to update... make sense?

Try unplugging your WiFi router for a few seconds.  Then reset the iPad network.  Go to Settings-General-Reset-Reset Network Settings.  You will need to reconnect to the WiFi.

  • Showing as connected to the internet but can't get...

    Hi,
This is my first post so apologies in advance if I'm using this incorrectly!
I have BT Infinity and have had very few problems since getting it but for the last few days I have been unable to get online. I've called BT a few times and it is showing that I'm connected to the internet so they felt it may be an issue with the Home Hub so are sending me another. In the meantime I have bought another router and connected this to the modem etc and it is showing as being connected to the internet but I still am unable to get online. This is both when connected via an Ethernet cable or wirelessly and is the same across all devices (pc, ipad, iPhone etc). As I say, it is showing as connected to the internet but I can't get online at all. I can via BT Openzone so I know my various devices are working.
I am almost certain the new Home Hub will not help. It's driving me mad. Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

If as you say,you have tried the HH and other routers, and have reset and rewired the connections to the OR modem with no joy, then it leaves only 2 possible causes.
1)The RJ11 cable from the OR modem to the master socket might be faulty.
2)But it is most likely to be a fault in the line from the master to the cabinet,or a very noisy line.
You might need an engineer visit to check at the cab or the line.
Your local network seems to be in order,as it is indicating a network connection, but if the line is faulty to the cab, then you would not be able to get a stable connection,or no internet.
