HT4640 Adding a video clip to a keynote presentation - do I have to keep the original video on the camera roll?

I have several keynote presentations that are missing their video clips.  Does the original video clip need to stay on the camera roll after you embed it in the presentation?  I thought not, because when you add a video, a message comes up saying "compressing video" before it gets added.  That made me think that a special compressed version of the original video is made and saved along with the presentation.  I've tried testing this by creating a new presentation, adding a video clip to it and then deleting the original video from the camera roll and the video clip in the presentation was not affected.  You'd think if the clip were linked to a presentation, that iOS would warn you before you delete it from the camera roll.  But I can't think of any other reason why the clips would suddenly be missing from all my keynote presentations.

You can do this with iMovie '06, but not with iMovie '08. You should have iMovie '06 still on your hard disk if you upgraded from iLife '06, or you can download it for free from Apple. Under Editing -> Video Effects, you will find the Fast/Slow/Reverse effect that will do this.

I now want to lay down a new updated video clip, eliminate the original video, but retain the audio. Can I?  And if so, how.  I cant seem to
find the info anywhere in help.

I would suggest that you go to iMovie/Preferences and make sure that Advanced Tools are enabled.
Then, you can drag your new video clip on top of your old clip and a popup menu should appear. Choose REPLACE.

  • Applying color corrections to the original video clips?

How do I apply the same colour corrections I have made to video clips in PremierPro CS5.5, to the original video clips? Is there a way to save the clips from PremierPro to apply the same changes to the original avchd clips?

You would have to export with the correction applied.
    These become "Intermediates"

If you have either iMovie 09 or iMovie 11 you can do this easily using the Cutaway feature.
Go to iMovie/Preferences and make sure that the Advanced Tools are enabled.
Now you jut drag and drop the 2nd clip onto hte first clip at the frame where you want the Cutaway to start. A popup menu will appear. Choose Cutaway.
    Here is a good Tutorial.
If you have iMovie 08, let me know. There is a way to do it, but it is more complex.

Thanks for getting your details posted. Good job.
    You further explained
I am simply wanting to “overlay” a new visual element without disturbing the underlying audio.
A classical way to do a Premiere Elements Overlay is to hold down the Ctrl key of the computer main keyboard and drag the new clip over the area of the one you want to replace on the Timeline. That should not do anything but replace one portion of the video on the Timeline. No change in duration video or audio track if you are dealing with video linked to audio.
If you hold down the Alt key of the computer main keyboard, I am envising a scenario where you want to add to (not replace) some Timeline content.
A just in case note, if you have video on Video 1 and 2 and the video in 2 does not have transparent areas in it, then all you will see is the Video 2 content. I believe that Hunt eluded to that concept as a possible technique for what you might be doing.
Another just in case, if you have not seen the following Adobe documentation on arranging clips, you might be interested in the following link

  • Sounds out the original video start playing when I have muted them

In my video I set the volume of the original video to 0% and added a song for the entire edited video. When I play the video on big screen, on certain parts, it still plays the sounds of the original videos until I pause it and continue it. Even if I export the video the original sounds play through.Disturbing  What can I do to get these sounds out of it entirely?

I would guess that you are using either fast motion or slow motion. There is a bug in iMovie 09 which makes random audio artifacts when you set the speed slider to anything other than 25%, 50%, 100%, 200%, 400%, 800% (i.e. the Presets with the tick marks).
If you choose another speed, like 139% or 58%, you will get tha audio problems.
Change your speed to one of the tick marks and that should solve the problem.

  • Why is the video in the preview af lower quality than the original video?

I have a question about the quality of the video seen in the preview. This is not as good as the original and also not as good as the original video seen with fe mediaplayer.
I already read some similar discussions and I have tried some things:
Starting a new project with other settings (PAL HD 1080i, 25fps), this does not help.
Rendering the video if necessary, this does also not help.
    Some information:
The video's are from a PanasonicHDC-SDT750 full HD camera. Setting 1920HA.
Output files are MPEG   imagesize 1920x1080, 25 fps, 48 kHz
Computer: Inte(R)l core (TM) i7-3632QM CPU 2.20 GHz 8 Gb RAM
    AMD High definition audio devise
I hope this information is enough to help me, any help is surely appreciated.

Thanks for the follow up. Let us go through the check list to make sure what you are seeing should be the best possible
    1. Project preset....Based on the Panasonic HA setting, the camera should be expected to be recording 1080i (in your case, 1920 x 1080 @25 interlaced frames per second). Either you (manually) or the project (automatically) should be setting the project preset to match those video properties, using
    PAL
    AVCHD
    Full 1080i25
When you import that source into the Expert workspace and drag it to the Timeline, there should be no colored line over its content indicating that the file needs to be Timeline rendered to get the best possible preview. In fact, with no colored line, if you press Render, you will get file playback and not Timeline render.
Are we OK on this so far.
    2. Right click the Edit area monitor, select Playback Quality, and then compare the set for Automatic versus Highest.
    3. Go to Edit Menu/Preferences/General and the option there
"Timeline render quality (valid for HD projects)" and determine if it is set for "High quality, Slow Speed". If not, set it to that choice.
    4. The bitrate for your source is 17 Mbps. If you have exported
    Publish+Share
    Computer
    MPEG2
    with Presets = MPEG2 1920 x 1080i25 High Quality
you should be OK bitrate wise since the defaults for the preset are
    Minimum 18 Mbps
    Target 25 Mbps
    Maximum 30 Mbps
Have you looked at the export of
    Publish+Share
    Computer
    AVCHD
    with Presets = MP4 - H.264 1920 x 1080p25?
    5. Is your computer's video card/graphics card driver version up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the card?
Please review and consider the above.
    Thank you.

Sir Churchill, I tried deleting one of the playlists from my computer (Playlist 130).  The next day I checked my wife's computer and noticed that Playlist 130 was now missing from her computer as well.  Is there a way that I can delete a playlist from my computer without it disappearing from hers as well?

  • Is annotation for a hyperlink to another video is possible from the original video?

    hi there,
i have been working on Adobe Presenter trail period for a while and thanks to adobe it's a tremendous help.  i have a doubt- is it possible to hyperlink to another video from the original video.
i.e after creating a video i want to integrate another video into the original one through an annotation that will be displayed on the original video which provides a link for my second video.

Thank you, Ian. That sub-menu is what eluded me all right. It certainly seems to me to be one way I can do this: using the Paste Formula Results sub-menu under Edit. But before I copy the cells as you say, I will have to take several prior steps.
In the new sheet I have to select the top left cell of the subject range and there enter "=". Then, in the original sheet, I must select the corresponding cell. Returning immediately to the new sheet, I need to drag the cell right to extend the formula to two adjoining two cells. Now I need to drag those three cells to extend the formula to the bottom of my table (quite a number of rows, but the number matches that of the original sheet). Only at this point am I in a position to apply your suggested method: that is, copy what's already selected and use Shift-Command-V to paste the formula's result throughout the range.
I feel sure that will do it. But if anyone has any further suggestion as to how this could be done less cumbersomely, I would be very happy to hear it before I embark on the task ahead - because that will have to be repeated for another 24 new sheets in a couple of files. Quite a lot of work.
So, whilst you've helped me materially, a question still remains as to whether some other method might be possible?
    Regards,
    Peter White

  • Do images imported to Keynote retain their previous color profile? In other words, if the Keynote presentation will be shown using an sRGB profile projector, should the images be converted to sRGB prior to importing?

Do images imported to Keynote retain their previous color profile? In other words, if the Keynote presentation will be shown using an sRGB profile projector, should the images be converted to sRGB prior to importing or can they be batch adjusted in Keynote?

While I feel your comment doesn't directly address my question, why I am worrying is this.
This presentation is to a camera club. Color is important. Images shown in meetings are projected by an sRGB color profile projector. Most serious photographers us a color profile with a bigger space than sRGB (typically RGB1998). If you project an RGB1998 image on an sRGB projector the colors go to crap. More precisely they become dull and lifeless. Thus, I am trying to determine whether I need to convert the images I plan to put into my Keynote to sRGB and boost the saturation PRIOR to importing them or whether Keynote has a way to do this as part of the software.

  • Can't keep the original size of the video (Resize Video option is stuck on 640 x 480h)

I am importing .mp4 files set at 874 x 480h. Somehow AME makes the output size 640 x 480h, which significantly vertically compresses the video.
I tried so many different ways of uncheking the Rewsize Video box, checking it again and specifiying 874 x 480h. Best I got is 874 x 480h with black borders left and right and the actual video to be rendered in output tab is still at 640 x 480h.
It seems that Resize Video option is stuck on 640 x 480h and can not be changed.
Is there some bug in AME I have to work around? Or is it a problem with the original video? If the problem with an original video what exactly do I ask my client to rerender it like if I already receive it in 874 x 480h, can view/play it in this size, AME recognizes the original video to its true size, shows it to its true size if 1x1 pixel preview is selected. However will show a distorted 640 x 480h version if Aspect Ratio Corrected Preview is selected (even with the Resize Video box unchecked)?

    Hi Marion,
Thanks very much for your message. I have downloaded that program and it's definitely handy for examining the details of the original file. You mentioned in your message about not having to recode the file - The file I'm editing is originally from a Q3 Zoom video recorder and I can use their in-built software (handyware) to trim the file - this doesn't recode the file and so the file size just reduces by the required amount. Unfortunately there is no facility to crop the file with this software - I've looked for other software that would allow cropping without having to recode the file but I haven't found anything suitable for a simple procudure like this - do you know of any software that allows you to crop a file without recoding? Thanks.

  • I unintentionally deleted the first segment of some video.  I was able to get it out of the Trash and into "Finder", but I cannot restore it to iMovie and the original video.  Help!  How do I move the video (now in Finder) back to iMovie?

I deleted (to Trash) a segment of "raw footage" from an iMovie project that I did not want to delete.
I was able to retreive it from the Trash and move it to Finder, but I cannot figure out how to move it back to iMovie.
How do I do this (restore the video segment to the start of the project)?
Or, do I have to load the original video again from the camera?

    @ "Afterimages":
Well, yes, I suppose I could re-import the video.  (LIkely ALL of it, dammit!)
So, unless I'm mistaken that would be the "long way" to resolving this issue.
I was able the take the deleted video out of the Trash and now it's in Finder.  Why can't I simply re-insert it into iMovie where it orginally was?  That would be the simple solution, just "click and drag", or something like that, correct?  Maybe that's impossible?  (In which case, I must ask, "Wouldn't the creators of iMovie have considered this "boo-boo" and done something to remedy it easily?"  I doubt I'm the first vidiot to do this...

  • Layering video clips in one keynote slide

    Question here for Keynote experts:
I'm trying to do something I'm not sure Keynote is capable of. At least, on the face of it it is, but in reality it doesn't seem to work. I have two video clips I'm trying to blend together seamlessly. The second begins with the same still image the first one ends with, so moving from one to the other shouldn't be noticeable. I tried putting them as slides that dissolved between the two, but KN insists on dipping to black between them. To combat this I did a little reading and seemed to learn that, like pictures, I could put the videos one atop the other, then adjust the build order to have them dissolve in the middle. KN will let me do this process, but when it comes to playback it only plays the video on top, then moves on to the next slide.
So, my question is, am I simply asking too much of KN, or is there another trick to this I could exploit?
Just in case anyone's wondering, the reason I'm doing this is because I'm building an award show presentation using video assets from After Effects and Premiere, the plan being to limit the Keynote-y element. Really I'd rather not use KN at all, but as these kind of events are subject to delays, over-runs etc, I have to ensure I have control over the timing, so delivering the assets through something like KN is the best option I'm aware of.
Thanks in advance for any and all help!

CLOSE. First of all THANK YOU. Here's where we're at right now--I'll narrow the focus as much as possible.
To assist, I"ve uploaded some images of my slides to my flickr site:
    http://flickr.com/photos/ericnentrup/
It's the KEYNOTE Photoset on the left.
The layout has been done in Keynote (yes, I'm pushing boundaries). Hierarchically, there's a Product Line Page (Slide 1 on flickr.com) with a link to each of 6 products. On each of those Individual Product Pages (Slide 2), there are a list of features (8-14 depending), all linked to another static slide with a description of that feature. At the bottom of the Feature list is a link to a slide (Slide 3) that shows THAT PRODUCT in action--a 640x480 mp4 video I spit out of Final Cut Pro. In Keynote, there's a button at the bottom of the slide ('Click here to close") with "link enabled to last viewed slide" that returns it to "Slide 2". When in presentation mode, and with the video playing, it lets me click the button, interrupt the video wherever it was at, and return me to the previous slide.
But when I export to QT, I can NOT override the playing of the video, and am captive, having to wait for it to play out. This is a non-negotiable with the client and about to do me in.
Off to see them now for a bit...I'll be back later this afternoon...you can iChat me at [email protected]!
    Thanks Kyn!
