HT4682 Does anybody know if Final Cut Pro X is compatible with, or equipped to receive input from MovieBox DV?

I borrowed a MovieBox DV (by Pinnacle Systems) to try to digitize analog video from my Super 8 video camera cassettes onto my new iMac. I followed the MovieBox instructions to connect the analog video camera to the MovieBox DV and then onto my iMac. I opened first Final Cut Pro X and tried to import the digitized video, but my iMac does not seem to be recognizing or receiving the digitized input from the MovieBox DV.
Does anybody have any suggestion on how to make this digitization work?

FCP X needs a source with timecode, which means that you probably need some other tool to ingest your footage.
Quicktime Player can probably do it (File->New Movie Recording).

I don't know what terms you ** SEARCHED **
But the list referenced above (click on the term searched) has quite a few.
If you work with FCP/ Logic/ ProTools, etc in any professional capacity, you may want to wait until the fallout settles. This is especially true if you use 3rd party cards & drivers. Otherwise, get a new drive and install everything from scratch.

Does anyone know when Final Cut Pro will have a new release?

I am shooting a documentary in Uganda and will be purchasing Final Cut Studio after to edit, but I heard a rumor that a new release is coming soon.
I couldn't verify this by my own searching. Any one have a clue, I can wait a month or two if a new release is imminent.

Those that don't know - well, they don't know. Apple has long held to the policy of saying nothing until the day the software/hardware hits the shelves - (with the exception of the iFone).
The basic rule of any computer purchase applies to your situation - if you need the software/equipment now, buy it now. If you don't, wait. There is ALWAYS something newer, faster, shinier coming down the pipeline.

Final Cut Pro 3.0 - Compatible with HDV?!?

Does any use HDV with their FCP 3.0 program? Is there settings I can change to import this file type, or do I have to convert it to SD? Thanks for your help!

You have two options.
1. Down convert in the camera to DV and capture that way. No guarantee it will work.
2. upgrade your system to a more recent version of FCP. FCP 4.5 could deal with HDV if you used Luminaire's codec but it would be better to head up the food chain to at least 5.0/5.1 which was the first to deal with HDV natively. FCP6 (aka FC Studio 2) is what is shipping now. It has some steep hardware requirements, so check carefully if you decide to go that route.

You are welcome to try but it was not tested. Also from my understanding printer drivers have changed again in Windows 8 so it is unlikely you will be able to get the Adobe PDF printer to function. Acrobat 10 and Acrobat 11 do function properly with Windows 8. If you end up running into installation difficulties then you will likely want to consider upgrading to Acrobat 11.

Try assigning Queen as the Album Artist on the compilations in iTunes on your computer.

I am putting together a proposal for a Final Cut Pro Workstation to use with a tapeless HD camera. Can anyone suggest the best camera (in the 5-10,000 dollar range) ? What hardware and software should I include in the package?

This is quite an open suggestion, but here are some ideas which might get you started. There are good HD cameras in your price range from Sony, Panasonic and Canon (and maybe other manufacturers). Tapeless formats vary. I have only worked with Sony XDCAM which seems pretty good to me. File sizes for material shot at 35MBS are not too huge and, with the free Sony transfer and conversion programme, are easy to bring into the computer via USB direct from the camera or from a fairly inexpensive converter. The Sony XDCAM EX3 can produce results well up to broadcast quality.
As to hardware, you'll need a powerful MAC - iMac, Macbook Pro or MacPro with 4GB or more of RAM and a good video card. Softwarewise, FCPX is quite a bit cheaper than FC Studio 3 and of course it's 64bit and can make better use of multi-core machines than FCP7. It's also designed to handle HD formats with less hassle than FCP7 and is matched to the latest versions of Motion and Compressor. But you'd probably be wise to search reviews of FCPX before you make your choice - it has some issues.
A good HD monitor will be essential and, for colour correction etc, you may want to consider a second monitor or HD TV foe editing. ( A MacPro is generally the best machine to connect a second monitor to).
This should give you a good editing system, but there are many other things you could add (Photoshop, professional sound monitors, etc)

FCPX has no serial number. You download it and buy it from App Store only. Where from did you buy it if not from AppStore.

Are files created with final cut studio 1.5 compatible with studio 2.0 and vice-versa?
I remember that from 5.0 to 5.1 they were not back compatible, and it was a huge headache for us.

Not sure what you mean by "Studio 1.5", but no project file created with a newer version of FCP can be opened with an older version. The alternative is to export sequences as XML files.
Project files created with older versions can be opened by newer versions.
