  • Restoring individual photos from Time Machine

I have been researching the blogs for an answer to this question and find nothing helpful.  What is the best method for retrieving an individual photo from iPhoto  on Time Machine?
I inadvertently deleted a photo that I know was present a few weeks ago.  How can I recover the photo from Time Machine?
I have an iMac (21.5") with OS X version 10.8 (Mountain Lion) and am using iPhoto '11 version 9.3.2.
    Thanks for a quick response.

  • How do I get iphoto from my iMAC to Ipad since I restored my photos from Time machine?

I recently replaced my hard drive and then restored from time machine. Also reset my iPad. Now iPad only accepts recent photos and rejects or ignores older photos that came from backup. How do I get the older photos to be acknowledged and loaded to iPad?

Open your iPhoto library package with the Finder like this:
look for a folder titled iPod Photo Cache and move it to the Trash.  Do not touch, move, rename or remove any other item in the library.
Launch iPhoto and try syncing again.

  • How to restore iPhoto pictures from time machine

Knowing this:  " When using iPhoto ’11 (version 9.2 or later) and Time Machine with OS X Lion 10.7.2 (or later), iPhoto no longer has the Browse Backups option. This means that instead of restoring specific photos within your iPhoto Library, you must restore your entire iPhoto Library."
I need to restore from the July 2012 backup iPhoto library a few photos, no more than 50, I guess I need some guidance on how to prevent my current iPhoto library to be overwritten with the contents of an old library, thus erasing all of the pictures I have taken since, that's 2 years ago.
Should I create a *new* iPhoto library, and restore it with the contents from the time machine? I suppose that once the *new*  has been restored then I can pick up the pictures and export these to my current library.
I need to be cautious as to how I can do this, I do not want to loose the thousands of pictures I have in my current library and would appreciate if what I intend to do will bring the results I want to have.
    Thanks

When you restore the library, use the "Restore to" function and not the "Restore". This will let you select a different folder, or if you do not have enough disk space, restore to a different disk. Then open the restored library by double clicking it and export the photos you need to restore.
Double click your current library to switch back to your current library and import the restored photos.

  • Restore individual photos from time machine

How do I restore individual photos from a previous computer's time machine backup?  When I view my latest backup in my time machine external hard drive, there isn't a folder to access master photos.  Only the button to view another iphoto library, which isn't working.  OS X 10.10.2.

Sadly, the ability for Time Machine to restore individual photos from within iPhoto was removed a long time ago.
The tortured workaround is to restore an entire iPhoto Library to a different location. Use Time Machine and navigate to the iPhoto Library you wish to restore, and choose "Keep Both" or control-click and choose to restore to a different location. Choose that temporary iPhoto Library using iPhoto's File > Switch to Library... menu. Export the photos you need, close iPhoto and switch to the original Library, and import them. Finally, drag the exported photos and the restored Library to the Trash.

  • Restoring single photo from Time Machine

My iphoto library appears to function differently in Time Machine than it does when I access it from my MacHD, and I'm wondering if this is normal or if I screwed up a setting somewhere. From my Mac HD, when I click on my iPhoto library it launches iphoto and shows me all my pictures. Alternatively, when I right click the iphoto library icon I can scan the source files and drill down to a specific photo. This all works great.
Problem is when I navigate to my iphoto library on my backup drive using Time Machine, I can't seem to open it and view my photos. Right clicking does nothing. And single or double clicking the iphoto icon does nothing either. I know there are photos in there becuase it says the library is 15 gigs big.
How do I go about restoring a single lost photo? Is my only option to restore the entire library? If that is true, it would be a huge hassle and not a great solution because I still wouldn't be sure if the library I was restoring contained the single missing photo I was looking for.
My iphoto library is kept in a shared user folder on my IMac so that my wife can access it over our wireless network from her Imac. Not sure if this has anything to do with my problem, but figured I should mention it.
Any help would be much appreciated.

My Time Machine iPhoto Library doesn't work the same as the one on my hard drive either. That said, I wouldn't expect it to. Time Machine uses hard links within the HFS+ file structure to keep track of previously backed up files. I would think this would make programming some of the features available in just plain vanilla HFS+ difficult. You can read about how hard links are implemented in Time Machine in this Ars Technica review.
    http://arstechnica.com/reviews/os/mac-os-x-10-5.ars/14
However, iPhoto is integrated with Time Machine so you can browse through things that way although I'm not positive it will work with a shared user folder. Launch iPhoto and without doing anything else click on the Time Machine icon in the dock. Then use the white ladder-like lines on the right hand side of the screen to navigate to the date you want to view. You can then click on the item(s) you want to restore and click the Restore button.

  • HT1338 How to restore iphoto photo with Time Machine?

I am trying to restore a single photo in iPhoto from Time Machine.
I open up iPhoto, then upen up Time Machine. When Time Machine launches, it opens up my desktop, not iPhoto.
I have seen videos of people doing this, but I cannot get Time Machine to open up iPhoto.
    What am I doing wrong?

Apple used to support restoration of photos via the iPhoto interface with Time Machine, but has halted this support. I believe the reason was the feature was corrupting people's libraries, but I cannot be certain. Your options here are to restore either the entire library or manually go into the library in the Finder and use Time Machine to browse through file histories that way. Alternatively you can access the Time Machine backup directly in the Finder and manually copy the needed files out of it (do not restore in this way, but instead copy to the Desktop and then re-import the image as a new photo).

  • How to Restore iTune Liberaries from Time Machine

My MacBook Pro needs to replace.  I have Time Machine backup from the old one.  What folders do I need to restore from Time Machine to the new MacBook Pro to restore my iTune Liveraries.  Both my iPhone 4 and iPad are synced to my MacBook Pro.

Bring the Contacts window forward, then enter Time Machine and scroll back to a snapshot that includes the contacts you want to restore. Select the contacts and click the Restore button in the lower right corner of the screen.
If you don't have a Time Machine backup, but your contacts are all on iCloud and haven't been overwritten, then you can recover them by following the instructions on this page. Double-click the downloaded file to import it into Contacts. This procedure won't work if you've synced an empty Contacts database to iCloud.

  • How do I restore printer preferences from time machine in Mountain Lion?

Yesterday I deleted all the printers and and after reinstalling the printer drivers from the printer disc, the printer cannot find the software, so how do retore the printer preferences from time machine?

The printer is a Samsung CLX-3180 series.  I have downloaded the printer drivers from Apple:
Samsung Printer Drivers v2.5 for OS X
Then when I go into System preferences to Add the Samsung printer, I get the following message:
"Can't install the software for the Samsung CLX-3180 Series because it is not currently available from the Software Update server."  Which I don't understand as i have downloaded the new drivers and the CLX-3180 is listed as a covered printer.

  • How to Restore System Preferences From Time Machine

    Hi,
Is there any way to restore past system preferences using Time Machine (such as desktop photo, trackpad settings, screensaver, etc.)? I would like to revert to some of these past settings without restoring my whole system from the backup disk & DVD.
    Thanks in advance!

You can do that, but you have to figure out which preferences you want, and what file(s) they're in. And there are about a zillion of them!
Most user-level preferences you set via System Preferences are in one big file:
    *<home folder>/Library/Preferences/com.apple/systempreferences.plist*
but a few are in separate files, such as:
    *<home folder>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.screensaver.plist*
System-level preferences, such as Time Machine's preferences, are in separate files in the top-level Library folder:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist
or one of several files in the sub-folder:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguraton
Other preferences, such as all your Mail accounts, rules, etc., are in separate files at the user level, such as:
    *<home folder>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist*

  • HT4927 How do I retrieve photos from Time Machine on a new macbook air?

My previous mac book pro had all my photos on it. I thought I saved the library to a disk, but was unsuccessful. I also backed up my photos to my Time machine daily.  Once my macbook and coffee got acquainted, it no longer worked. I am unable to retrieve my photos from anywhere, nor do I know how to access them from my time machine. When I enter time machine, the date only goes as far back as to when I started back ups with the new macbook. How can I obtain them? I have a lot of baby photos I'm without.

Not for photos as I don't have alot of room, nor am I 100% know what I am doing.

  • New HDD - how to restore iTunes library from Time Machine

Installed a new HDD in my MacBook Pro, would now like to restore my iTunes library on the computer.
Searched & saw a post about "needing to use the Time Machine interface to restore the entire library".
What is this interface they are referring to and how do I find it?
I open Time Machine in preferences and see there is an "options" button, and you can add items to the restore window ... I'm hoping there is a document somewhere that details if this is the correct place to restore an iTunes library, if so, what files/directories need to be added for restore, etc...
What's the process to restore an iTunes library from a Time Capsule backup?

    Please do not double-post.
