HT4718 About Lion Recovery issues after installing mountain lion

After finishing the installing process of OSx Mountain Lion from the App store, and trying to boot, an error was presented saying failed to create Recovery boot, so I got stuck.
Now anybody knows if possible to install correctly, without creating an external drive with installation of OSX and recovery boot first?

  • Ethernet connection issues after installing Mountain Lion

After installing Mountain Lion I can't get my iMac to connect by ethernet. It says that no cable is connected. The cable/connection is fine. When I plug in my MacBook Pro running Lion, the ethernet connects just fine.

same exact problem.  in fact, my iMac24 (2009) worked flawlessly until I installed the latest update to Mountain Lion.  I then checked my MBAir (2011) and it too has a problem when using the USB/Ethernet adapter.  Neither can get an ethernet connection.  I deleted my network preferences and rebooted my machine, played around with my Ethernet switch and even reboot my gateway/router.  I've never had to do any of this to my network until Mountain Lion.  Wireless is the only thing that continues to work on both machines.

  • HP Printer issue after installing Mountain Lion

Hi, a few days ago I posted the following question regarding a printer issue and so far I have not been able to fix the problem.  Here's the original question and I will  continue the explanation after this....
Hi, I am a fairly new iMac owner and I am really happy with my apple, however I have an issue with my printer and I kind a "blame" Montain Lion for it.  I have been using this HP Laserjet P2015 dn printer for a long time, initially with Windows and now with iMac.  The first year approximately there was no problem at all to print and the transition from Windows to Mac with the printer had no difficulties at all.  It was connected wirelessly via router.  After downloading Montain Lion I notice the printer intermittently lost connectivity.  The only way to print was turn off and turn on and it will print fine until the next time.  Now out of the blue it's doing the same thing so frequently I can't print a complete document at all.  It starts, and finish without printing the entire document or not connect at all.  I have tried everything, including a static IP address for the printer, connect the printer to the computer via USB, downloading all the printer updates from HP and nothing seems to work.  Just now, I did it again (for 100 times so far), delete the printer, reinstall and it's doing the same thing.  It connects fine (either via IP or USB) and it last connected only for a minute or two.  That's it.  It's a shame, because I like the printer.  The printing quality is great and to add more pain, I recently got a new ink cartridge ($100.00) capable of printing 3000 pages.  It has 70% of ink still.  Any computer sabby person out there has any ideas for me? Like I said, I've done everything.... inluding,
    1.  Remove the printer
    2.  Update the drivers
    3.  Assign a static IP address to the printer
    4.  Connect via USB
    5.  Disconnect the  printer for a while and restart the whole process again
    6.  Did a "cold start" to the printer
I don't know what to do, and I don't want to spend more $$$$$ on a new printer.  Is Montain Lion to be blame for?  Please advise me.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
At this point I do have the printer connected only via USB, prints one page (perfectly) and then goes offline.  Before installing Mountain Lion I did use the printer with my Mac for almost a year with no issues at all.  I even downloaded Mountain Lion again thinking of any flaws during initial installation.  I've done all the updates, drivers, uninstall, re install, repair disk permission, static ip address....you name it... I've done it all and nothing seems to work.  What makes no sense to me is that prints so great only one page and then is gone.... I would be happy to know the printer is dead and go get a new one but in my mind if it prints ok one page it still works.  I don't want to have a new printer and find out it does the same thing.  I can't keep myself away from blaming Mountain Lion.  IS THERE ANY WAY TO REMOVE MOUNTAIN LION WITHOUT THE RISK OF DAMAGING THE COMPUTER????  PERHAPS GOING BACK WILL PROVE ME MOUNTAIN LION IS THE CULPRIT.  Just saying... I am totally frustrated.  I guess the next step is to get a baseball bat and fix the printer once and for all.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Any fix for this? I have the same problem after upgrade.  It's off by many seconds.  Thank you.

  • Startup issues after installing mountain lion

Since I updated to mountain lion two days ago I'm having issues starting my mac after system shut down. When I switch my mac on I get a black screen with what looks like DOS writing, it won't go to the login screen unless I hold down the power button till it shuts down then switch it on again then it will boot fine! I've tried repairing disk permissions but this has not helped.
Any ideas?? tried ringing apple but they're closed :-(

    Hi Guys...
Sorry its taken me a fews day to get back, well as it stands the situation is still the same!
Heres what I've done so far:
reset the PRAM - no joy
reset the SMC - no joy
ran the disk repair in recovery - no joy
repaired disk permissions in recovery - no joy
reinstalled mountain lion - no joy
but I think I've narrowed down the problem from the log console, it would appear that my imac is automactially booting into single-user mode.... see below.
    01/08/2012 12:03:00.706 com.apple.launchd[1]: *** launchd[1] has started up in single-user mode. ***
    01/08/2012 12:03:00.709 com.apple.launchd[1]: *** Verbose boot, will log to /dev/console. ***
    01/08/2012 12:03:00.712 com.apple.launchd[1]: *** Shutdown logging is enabled. ***
any ideas on how to rectify this would be great please...

  • Is there any succesful answer to the many questions about not functioning wifi after installing mountain lion? Also when awakes after sleep MB frezees, wifi can´t get active, dock does not show, in general MB does´t respond. All this in mountain lion.

When awakes after sleep MB frezees, wifi can´t get active, dock does not show, in general MB does´t respond. All this after I installed an update of mountain lion.

Try starting up in Safe Mode and see if things are better.

There is one thing you can do to try to determine what's consuming that space.  Launch a Terminal session, then type this command:
    sudo du -d 1 -h -x /
and press <return>.  You'll be prompted for your administrative password, which won't be echoed as you type it.  Press <return> again after you type the password.
The output will show one line for each file or directory at the top level ("/") of your disk.  That will give you a first-cut picture of what's consuming the space.
Here are the things on my system that have a non-trivial amount of space:
    975M /.Spotlight-V100
    15G  /Applications
    17G  /Library
    5.8G /private
    3.8G /System
    37G  /Users
    606M /usr
For more details on a particular entry, just put its name after the slash on that command, such as
    sudo du -d 1 -h -x /private

  • My macbook pro is very slow after installing mountain lion

my macbook pro is very slow after installing mountain lion?  Is anyone else having this issue?

If you don't use an SSD and bump your RAM up to 8 Gb's you may experience slow speeds, but I noticed slow speeds with your general configuration in SL.
one thing you should consider right now is, Spotlight is Reindexing your hard drive, that takes time and resources, (resources which you don't necessarily have to spare).
If you continue feeling like your performance is slow, you have a few options with this computer (I have the same one).
the express card slot can house a wintec SSD drive. That little door on the side of your machine is pure gold for a really quick solution for speeding up your machine. I have one in mine right now i'm using as a scratch disk for CS6 but I used to boot from it, and the speed boost was out of this world.
You could take out the internal HDD and put in a new SSD (I have a Vertex 4 from OCZ) it is completely over kill but my experience is pretty fast and I keep up with the later MBP models colleagues have.
There are some other options for you like taking out the optical drive (however I don't know if I'm supposed to talk about that here). Google Data Doubler.
You need to also set it to always use the 9600 chipset, this will increase performance a lot too. to do this go to system preferences>energy saver>Better Performance. This switches the video card to the better one and makes a world of difference.
Lastly, your RAM. after an EFI Firmware update, our computer support up to 8GBs of RAM. Do it!
    Late 08 MBP 2.53 GHZ 9600 chipset 8gb ram, Vertex 4 SSD

  • HT1338 After install mountain lion my superdrive do not work

i facing problem after install mountain lion 10.8.2. my superdrive do not work properly , when i insert a disk to superdrive after 20-30 seconds left cd eject. if you have any solution about solve this problem , pls tell me.

After recently upgrading my mid-2010 Mac Mini from Lion to Mountain Lion 10.8.2 my superdrive stopped working. I did a clean install of Lion to a blank SSD. Then I upgraded to Mountain Lion from the App Store. Then I tried reading a Windows 7 installation DVD. Any DVD I insert in the internal superdrive is not recognized by the system and is ejected after a few seconds.
I tried cleaning the superdrive with a DVD lens cleaner. This did not fix the problem.
I tried a SMC reset. This did not fix the problem.
I tried an NVRAM/PRAM reset. This did not fix the problem.
I read on a related thread...
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4150905?start=30&tstart=0
...that many Mountain Lion users have experienced the same issue.
I opened the Console to look for new messages appearing after inserting a DVD-ROM into the superdrive. No messages appeared while the superdrive whirred a few times and then ejected the DVD-ROM.
Apple have been made aware of the issue but no patch has been issued. Mountain Lion 10.8.2 is the current version with no updates available at the time of writing.
Some users with dual-boot systems have booted into Windows and their superdrive works fine. This points to a software issue with Mountain Lion. The problem appears to affect some systems and not others.
Other users have reported that their superdrive works again after downgrading to Lion or Snow Leopard.
I'm going to try booting ML into Safe Mode to see if the superdrive works. I'll then try downgrading to Lion or Snow Leopard to see if the superdrive works ok. That at least will confirm that it is a Mountain Lion upgrade related issue and not a superdrive hardware failure.
Then we will have to wait for a patch from Apple to resolve the issue so we can upgrade to ML without losing use of the optical drive!

  • TS3147 After installing Mountain Lion, I tried to scan from my Canon MX870 and received the message: "MP Navigator EX quit unexpectedly. Click Reopen to open the application again. A report will be sent to Apple,"

After installing Mountain Lion, I tried to scan from my Canon MX870 and received the message: "MP Navigator EX quit unexpectedly. Click Reopen to open the application again. A report will be sent to Apple,"  This problem happened right after I installed Mountain Lion. I then downloaded Canon's upgraded software and drivers for the MX 870 and the problem was resolved. Now one month later, the problem has returned.

    rjliii wrote:
Solved problem with original Canon software.  When I downloaded Canon software upgraded for OS X 10.8, I got all by Navigator Ex. Noticed that on Canon's site, the upgraded version is 3.1; my app was 2.1. Upgraded to 3.1 for Nav. Ex, and it works.
You should still use Image Capture IMHO.  If it was my gear, that's what I would do.  No need to worry about software upgrades.

  • Can No Longer Get Camera Photos After Installing Mountain Lion

After installing Mountain Lion, I am no longer am able to see pictures from my digital camera thru the USB port.  This camera has worked for years with my iMac, but not anymore.  Anybody else having this issue after installing the newest system?
    Dick

    Paul_31:
I have not tried to import the photos directly into iPhoto.  However, I did remove the SD card from the camera and plug it into a USB card reader, and my iMac would NOT read the photos that way either.  I took the camera and plugged it into my Win. 7 laptop and the pictures showed up nicely, so I know the camera and the card are Ok.  My iMac has been working strangely since I installed Mountain Lion.  I'm getting lockups using iMovie too.

  • After installing Mountain Lion two drives on my network cannot be accessed.  I am using Parallels to utilize QuickBooks ERP.  The programs and data are on the drives that I can no longer access.  Suggestions?

After installing Mountain Lion on my Mac Book Pro, I can no longer access two shared drives.  Diagostics cannot solve the problem.  I am using Parallels to run Qucikbooks ERP on these shared drives.  How do I get my Mac to see these drives and access them?

Don't know what to tell you, but I also have an AEBS-Gen5 with a MBP Retina and Mac Mini using WiFi. Both are running Mountain Lion and I don't have any WiFi connection issues. Two iPhones in the household use WiFi with no issues along with a printer and 2 Windows 7 laptops.
First thing I would try is to shutdown all computers connected to the AEBS. Then power off the AEBS and finally the cable/DSL modem. Then reverse the order and power on the cable modem, wait for all the lights to be solid, power on the AEBS, wait for the light to show solid green; then power up a computer that uses WiFi.
If the above doesn't work, you might try repairing permissions via Disk Utility. If that doesn't help maybe a PRAM reset would work.

  • After installing Mountain Lion, why is there Yahoo access for one user but not another?--both are administrators.

After installing Mountain Lion, why is there Yahoo access for one user but not another?--both are administrators.

We've had several instances where we have had to run chkdsk on arrays with over 1m files. Average completion time is approximately 72 hours. The maximum downtime window they have available is the 64 hour weekend window. File sizes and number of files were
much smaller then than they are now.
The idea, in theory, was to use VHDs to compartmentalize the data into smaller volumes which could be more easily managed. It would also improve performance when transferring these compartments of data as they would use sequential read/write rather than
fragmented/random. This idea was never fleshed out in entirety, they don't split data up into little containers, but simply into big ones per project. Hence the 11m files in one container that I am currently trying to diagnose.
Some other important facts: The VHD in question is mounted in B:/project/ as this server also allows remote workers to log in, but they are restricted to see only data in E:. Disks A-D are hidden via group policy.
Update: icacls is failing on a large number of files within this dataset. I counted the path characters to ensure it wasn't the 255 character limit I was encountering and verified that the paths being blocked are only about 150 characters long. Once it finishes,
I'll have to try taking ownership and then re-running it. At this point I still have no idea how long to expect. I'm running out of time as the environment will be in use again at 9AM tomorrow morning.

  • No video after installing Mountain Lion

I have downloaded and installed Mountain Lion on my Mac Pro.  After the install and restart, my Mac Pro restarts however, I do not get a signal sent to my monitor.  I have attached different monitors and connected to both DVI ports with no luck.

I just wanted to add to the conversation that this was EXACTLY what happened to me after installing Mountain Lion. All my contacts were gone. It showed the Groups on the side of the address book after one day but the contacts never showed up. I tried unchecking the box for the contacts in system preferences for the iCloud and then rechecking it again.  That didn't help either. Came across this remedy up above about taking the Address Book from the Application Support Folder and putting it in the trash. Viola! It worked. However, I would add that I had to go into the iCloud pane and check the address book box since it then became unchecked. Once I did that, they ALL loaded back up and now they are finally there.

  • After installing Mountain Lion, my iTunes app wont start, why ???

After installing Mountain Lion, my iTunes app wont start, why ??? It bounces in the dock, then "Unexpectedly Quirs"

    Let's keep it simple...
    1) Make a new user - the steps are in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1199
    2) Log into that user, open iTunes, agree, etc. - it will probably work
    3) If it does, it tells us that iTunes (the program) is fine but it's encountering something unexpected
    4) Go back to your user, and try to open iTunes while holding option and making a new library - like suggested in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1589
    5) Your iTunes will be empty. This is ok. Your files are not touched by this process.
    6) If iTunes doesn't quit when loading an empty library, you could try rebuilding the iTunes Library as Apple documents in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451
    7) If iTunes does quit, it could be trying to grab something - like photo information to sync to your iPad - and that's where it finds the unexpected data. Maybe try moving the iPod Photo Cache? http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1324 should guide you for how to do that.
If you tell us whether it is library-specific, user-specific, or system-wide (happens in both users), we could maybe give you better advice on what's going on.'
If the new user has the same behavior, maybe remove the SC Info folder - there are not many system-wide files iTunes touches. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1389 covers how to remove that invisible folder.
iTunes uses /Applications/iTunes.app, /Users/Shared/SC Info, ~/Music/iTunes/ and ~/Library/Preferences/ and a bunch of other files. I don't think focusing on /Applications/iTunes/app or other system-wide files is going to be as effective as knowing whether the issue is system-wide or user-specific.
I hope this helps and feel free to reply if this is all confusing.
