HT4718 Will internet recovery reinstall the iLife suite?

Just wondering how I do a clean install of OSX on my Macbook Air, including all the apps that were there originally, such as iLife. This has to be done without creating a new user account on the machine, i.e I don't want to redownload from the MAS, as I've sold the laptop and want to deliver it "factory fresh", without users...

The only way to do a clean install of iLife if you are reformating the Mac is to use an older iLife disk to install it rather than a newer version of iLife from the App Store.  iLife is Not contained in the Recovery Partition; iLife is added Apps that are not part of OS X.

will internet recovery work on my mid 2010 MBP with yosemite and the firmare internet recovery update designed for OS lion

Yes, it does. The point is can your computer use full Internet Recovery with the firmware update or not. If not then you have to begin with the Snow Leopard DVD that came with your computer and do an Erase and Install.
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
However, if you can use full Internet Recovery:
Install Yosemite, Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.

After my 2011 MacBook Pro 17 died, I had to purchase a new MacBook Pro 15 to replace it.  I performed a Time Machine installation from that 2011 machine, and only Distiller and Acrobat would launch (none of the rest of the creation apps).  So I ran the CS5.5 installer, uninstalled, then reinstalled, producing the same result. When I try to launch, nothing happens.  What next?

  • HT1310 Internet recovery is the only option when I reboot holding option button

I followed all the instructions after my MacBook Air crashed and then flashed a folder icon with a question mark.
But when I startup and hold option button, all I get is 'Internet recovery' and the option to connect to a wifi.
    What can I do??

The OS X partition crashed. I recommend you to take the MacBook to an Apple Store or reseller because the disk may be failing.
If you can start up into Internet Recovery, do it. Then, open Disk Utility and check that the drive appears in the Disk Utility sidebar. If so, select it and verify it. If it gives you a problem, try to repair it, format the disk and reinstall OS X.
This may get your MacBook working again, but it's possible that it will fail soon. As I told you, take it to an Apple Store. If you don't have a backup, probably you lost everything

  • How do I transfer the iLife suite to a new (used) macbook

I recently bought a new (but used) macbook pro running mountain lion. I currently own a macbook pro running mountain lion also.  I am having no luck transfering the iLife suite to the new macbook.
    Help is appreciated

Did you buy one of the machines new in the past couple years?  If so you should see the iLife applications in your purchases tab in the Mac App Store.
If not, you should purchase the individual apps in the Mac App Store and then you can install the latest versions on each machine you own.

  • I have re-installed OSX Lion and I lost the iLife suite, but from app store I can't download it because there is only a version for OSX 10.9

hello to everyone! I just performed a clean install of OSX Lion on SSD and do not want to restore any backup. But I have lost the iLife suite (iPhoto, iMovie ..): if I try to download it from the app store, it tells me that I need OSX 10.9.. I tried to search all previous versions but they are only upgrade.
    thanks to everyone

  • Reinstalling the Adobe Suite

How can I reinstall the adobe suite? I recently reinstalled my OS (windows 7) and the adobe suite isn't installed I went to the adobe application manager and there's nothing there as far as I know. I just don't know where to go, I still have all of the adobe files but they arn't installed.

You should be able to reinstall the suite if you have discs.
If you don't have discs but the suite is the current release then you should be able to download the trial version from the Adobe site and use your serial number to activate it to full use.
If you don't have discs and the suite is an older release, you should be able to download the trial version from the site linked below and use your serial number to activate it to full use.  You need to follow the Very Important Instructions at that site before trying any download.

  • Do refurbished macbook airs come with pages and the rest of the iLife suite as new macbook airs?

Thinking about adding a refurbished MacBook Air to the stable.   Does anyone know if refurbished macbook airs come with pages the rest of the iLife suite the same as new macbook airs?

They may have iLife pre-installed, but not iWork. In any event you are able to get both for free when you buy a new computer. I don't know if this extends to refurbs. Nevertheless, you should be able to get iWork as a new Mavericks user. If you've already gotten them for your other computers, then the re-downloads are free.
iWork and iLife for Mac come free with every new Mac purchase. Existing users running Mavericks can update their apps for free from the Mac App Store℠. iWork and iLife for iOS are available for free from the App Store℠ for any new device running iOS 7, and are also available as free updates for existing users. GarageBand for Mac and iOS are free for all OS X Mavericks and iOS 7 users. Additional GarageBand instruments and sounds are available for a one-time in-app purchase of $4.99 for each platform.

  • HT4718 How I force recovery to go to Internet recovery as the local doesnt let me reinstall lion

My computer restarts in recovery mode but doesn't allow me to erase my drive or reinstall lion.
I don't even see my hd anymore.
How do I force the Internet recovery and how do I for e rescan to see my drive again.

What year was your Mac made? If it was before 2010 there is NO internet recovery system for those older Macs.
And even if it is a 2010 model it has to have the latest firmware installed to use the Internet Recovery system.
What you have to do on older Macs is use the original install disc that came with your system or a Snow Leopard Retail disc to boot the system and nwipe the drive.
Then reinstall one of those versions of OS X, Update to 10.6.3 (Retail version of Snow Leopard) then Update that to 10.6.8 from software update then you can reinstall Lion.
But it sound like you have hard drive problems and if your system is older then a 2010 model more then likely the hard drive is failing and needs to be replaced.
Next time you get to install Lion create either a Lion Recovery USB stick, useing the Lion Recovery Disk Assistant program downloaded from Apple or use the Lion download, Before you install it, to create a Lion Install USB thumb drive.

  • Why can't I reinstall my iLife suite of apps on my Mac Mini after having reinstalled Snow Leopard OSX?

Unfortunately my Mac Mini I use for audio production work and web design got slower and slower until one day it just gave up! I blame the internet for this, as before I started using the internet on this computer it was fine, nice and fast without any problems.
I tried reinstalling just the OSX but that didn't work, so I ended up erasing the disk with a full 35-pass option which failed itself after the eleventh pass, but it had still done what I wanted and completely erased the hardisk, so I wasn't bothered. However, now in Utilities, it wasn't finding any hardisk!!! I powered off and thankfully this time the disk was showing and so I tried installing the OSX again and this time it worked!
Next it was time to reinstall iLife that had come with the Mac Mini. No chance! Same error message every time to contact the software manufacturer!!! I've read on the communities that after 2012 this version of iLife apparently doesn't work. Is this true? If so then Apple is ripping customers off. Why should we have to keep upgrading all the time? As the old saying goes, "if it ain't broken, don't fix it!" If this is true that iLife won't work after 2012 then basically Apple is saying that its products are so crap that they won't work after a few years!! Surely not. I've also read in the communities that one person had to pay another $18 out for an iLife suite that works, what crap! Whatever came with the computer should work with the computer and not be limited to just a few years life and we shouldn't have to pay out for another disc when the original has be kept securely in its original packaging! I have an old Windows XP PC which is still going strong today and up until a year ago I had an old Windows 3.1 PC which was still working 22 years after purchase and I still had occasional tasks to carry out on it at DOS level!!
So I'm beginning to wonder whether I should go back to PCs if Apple computers have such a limited lifespan.
I look forward to your comments.
