HT4724 Importing from my camera or SD Card

I keep getting the message 'Camera missing' when I unplug my camera or SD card when I'm trying to import images on to FCP. What am I doing wrong?

Tom's second suggestion is the most likely reason.
You must never simply unplug or remove a camera or card.
You have to unmount it first.
You do this by ctrl-clicking (or right-clicking) on the item's icon on the desktop and selecting "Eject xxx".
You should then be able to disconnect the device.
However, you may get a message saying that FCP X is still using it.
In this case either leave the device connected or shutdown FCP X and then repeat the eject procedure.
When ejected/unmounted  correctly, the item's icon will disappear from the desktop.

I'm having trouble with video imported from my camera memory card. The video breaks up and pixelizes when it's directly imported from the memory card. That makes the video useless. Why does this happen? It doesn't do that in any other video editing software. Thanks for the help.

    More info please:

Was the card formatted in the camera doing the shooting?

  • How do I get rid of "unreadable files" when I am importing from my camera?

How do I get rid of "unreadable files" when I am importing from my camera?

Are all images unreadable? What is the exact error message you are getting?
If only a few images are unreadable, try to import not all photos at once, but in smaller batches, until you know, which photo it is that cannot be read. Import all photos that can be read and reformat your card in the camera to remove the unreadable files.
But if all photos are unreadable, try, if Image Capture can read your card.
Is it a new camera? Have you been able to import from that camera before?

  • I can't add a title to a movie imported from my camera! how come?

This is really frustrating because I have one clip (an entirely different one than the one I want to add a title to) that is "accepting" a title. but the one I imported from my camera (a testimonial from a client) just wont work. nothing happens when I drag and try to drop a title. with the other one, it turns blue and it's clear I can drop a title. I was able to edit my video and remove some clips.
this has happened before. i need to understand why it happens so 1. i can avoid it in the future and 2. stop wasting so much time messing around with this critcal but SMALL piece.
    please help!

    ill try to help...
forgive me i'm no tech. much like pictures cant be edited retitled etc, once uploaded from camera roll. (they can be in camera roll) I think you can do it on the computer after the fact.
as for where to find the video that depends on the computer. I dont know on a mac but windows based you find the file in your library right click and select rename.
    hope that helps

When importing from my camera or file in Lightroom 5 my pictures are over-exposed by 1-2 stops, while they are well exposed on the camera-screen. How to get the 'right-exposed pictures on the screen?

There is an option in your Lightroom preferences on the General tab, "Treat JPEG files next to raw files as separate images". If you have that option checked then Lightroom will import and display both your raw and JPEG files. Are you using active D-lighting on your camera? If you are then you need to turn off that feature.

  • Import from a camera that contains mts files

what is the required file structure for FCE to import from a camera that contains mts files

The file structure is provided/created automatically by the camera....
So if you still have the original structure, then you should be fine, but you may need to install software for log and transfer from the camera manufacturer...
If you just have the individual mts file, you are SOL as far as log and transfer goes. In that case you need to purchase ClipWrap2 to convert to Pro Res....
Not sure how this all works with FC Express though...

  • Importing from DVD CAM

Hi, I just installed Adobe Premiere Pro but I don't know how to import my videos from my DVD CAM. Could anyone tell me how to import from DVD CAM?
    Thank you

Was just given 2 DVD cam discs containing footage that was shot at a concert I am editing. On reviewing the discs, I noticed that each song is assigned to a separate chapter on the DVD.   I'd really like to use this footage as it provides additional camera angles I didn't cover.  I am going to use my old Ulead Video Studio 8 program to convert the DVD files to mpg's for editing in Pr. (I will also check out the software Jeff mentioned).  I'm trying to convert each chapter on the DVD to an mpeg2 file so the files size is manageable.
The footage I shot is mini DV, and I plan on mixing the two sources.    What do I need to look out for as far as the "conversions/extra steps" you mentioned?
    Thanks.

  • How do I import from a camera with QT PRO??

I have QT Pro 7 and a Sony DCR-TRV950 connected through firewire, but I don't see anything in the menu that would allow me to import from the camera. QT's help says it's under FILE, but it isn't. What gives??

How weird. I swear that option wasn't there yesterday. Must have updated or something since then. Thanks.

  • Clips won't import from Panasonic Camera

    Hello,
I'm new to imovie. Actually, I'm in the process of trying to create my first project on it and am having some trouble. I'm hoping someone out there can answer my questions about it. First, when I plug my camera into the computer and open imovie and a new project is selected the clips on my camera will not import onto the computer. The only thing that appears are the still images from iphoto that were previously on the computer. There are absolutely no clips on the computer even though when I play back on the camera with the battery in it, and when it is not connected to the computer, there is over one hour's worth of clips on the tape. Why do you think this might be happening and what can I do to make the clips import onto imovie?
Now, just so you know. The camera that I'm using is a Panasonic PV-GS83 and the cable I'm using to connect to the computer is a DV cable that I had to purchase, which should have been included with the camera, but was not.(The DV cable seems to fit into the computer fine.) Also, In order to plug the DV cable into the camera and the camera into the computer I have to remove the camera's battery. In addition, according to the camera's instructions, the camera has to be in Tape Playback mode and not in PC mode in order for it to import video images onto imovie. Moreover, images for the camera can only be recorded on a tape or a card, but supposedly the card can only import still and not video images. I've also mainly recorded video images onto the tape in the camera. Finally, the version of imovie that I'm trying to use is imovie '05, the computer is a Powerbook G4 and the operating system is MAC OSX (10.4)
If someone out there could answer my questions soon I would really appreciate it.
    All the best,
    csoste

welcome csoste to the  boards..
ehm, what is your question....... ?
(and: if iM5 is in use, why posting in the iM≤4 section of this board... ?)
anyhow, usual workflow to import from miniDV:
    connect camcorder to powerline..
connect 4/6pin firewire cable to Mac
    set camera to play
set iM to 'Import from camera' (manual for iM5 here: http://www.apple.com/support/imovie/tutorial/index.html )

  • Problem importing from 64 GB Lexar USB card in LR4 on Mac Mini with external hard drive.

Initiated import after deselecting some images. Import was super quick and I was suspicious as the stick had over 40GB of images. Progress bar indicated completed import. Later when I went to process images the Library module indicated that the files were "missing". Eventually I noted that the images were still listed as on the USB stick and had not been imported - though it seems they were imported into the catalogue and listed there with the thumbnails. Luckily I had not erased the USB stick. How do I avoid a repetition of this scenario? What should I do to complete the import? Should I delete the original and delete from Catalogue and start over again? This happened once before and I lost some good images when the progress bar erroneously (?) indicated completed import. Obviously I did something wrong.

As Rikk Flohr has already suggested, you must have selected <Add> (in the top center of the Import Dialog - although in Lr 4.3 this option is not any more available when importing from card).
<Add> is for importing images that are already on the hard drive and you do not want to change their location.
<Move> is for importing images that are already on the hard drive and you do want to change their location.
<Copy> is for importing images from camera / memory card.
You saw the progress bar when you imported. But that does not necessarily mean that your images have been copied to the hard drive.
Importing from memory card / stick / camera involves a two-step process:
    a) the images are copied to the hard drive;
    b) the images are referenced in the catalog.
In your case it seems that only (b) happened. Thus you get the message  that the images (i.e. the image files) are missing once you removed the memory stick.
To correct this: Move the images via your OS (Mac Finder / Win Explorer) to a location where you want your images to be.
Then in Lr re-link the catalog reference with the images files. You  do this by right-clicking the folder in question in the folders panel (it should have a question mark in front of the folder name) and selecting <Update folder location> or <Find missing folder>. Navigate to the location of the folder and select it.
For more on re-linking missing images / folders see here:
    http://www.computer-darkroom.com/lr2_find_folder/find-folder.htm
    http://tv.adobe.com/watch/creative-suite-podcast-photographers/lightroom-dude-where-are-my -photos/
Important:Do not re-import the photos. Re-importing photos that are already in the Lr catalog creates problems.

  • I run Final Cut Express 4.0.1; I shoot with a Sony HDR-CX260V. How do I import from the camera directly to Final Cut, without having to go through the intermediate step of using iMovie?

    I use Final Cut Express 4.0.1; I shoot with a Sony HDR-CX260V.
How do I import from camera to Final Cut without going through the intermediate step of using iMovie?

If you shoot in one of the following modes you should be able to Log & Transfer directly into FCE:
HD:  1920x1080/60i (FX or FH mode)
HD:  1440x1080/60i (HQ or LP mode)
    SD:  720x480/60i
1080/60p (PS mode) seems to be the default mode in your camcorder.  FCE only supports progressive video in 720p50 or 720p60.   That's probably why you have had to import via iMovie.
It would be better to upgrade to Final Cut Pro X, the version currently supported.  FCE was discontinued over 18 months ago and is not supported on Lion or Mountain Lion.

  • AVCHD - How to import from my camera?

I got a Sony CX-12 camcorder that records movies in full HD, an amazing image quality.
But when I import the movies from the camera the files become incredibly large...
And when I export the movie from iMovie08 the image quality is so poor...
By this way, there's no reason to expend lots of money on a High Definition camera, or to expend lots of money on a Mac...
    Thanks for all
    Emerson
    What do I do?
Is there another video editor that works with AVCHD files?

AVCHD is a method of squeezing large files into a small space by compressing the video ..by removing many actual frames from the flow of video, and just writing "pretend" frames which describe the differences between adjoining frames.
You obviously can't edit "pretend" frames which aren't there, so the original data has to be put back into the video stream in order for you to have real video to edit ..that's why the file size appears to balloon! ..It isn't really, though, that the file sizes increase: they just come back to normal ..it's the AVCHD-compressed material which is abnormally small!
As for the image quality being "..so poor.." when exported, that's a whole other story.
I won't describe what to do to improve it, as Mr Mullen will jump down my throat and say that I've got it all wrong ..but others will soon jump in and describe how best to export it at best quality.
There are plenty of good reasons to "..expend lots of money on a High Definition camera, or to expend lots of money on a Mac.." because you can get excellent results ..and all TVs are going to become Hi-Def soon, and there'll soon be no standard-def camcorders anyway!
(..There are three simple ways to present hi-def after you've edited it: burn it to a hi-def DVD, or send it to a device like an AppleTV, or play it off a computer's hard drive to a compatible display. Apple doesn't - presently - sell Blu-Ray burning devices, and they seem to be betting on all hi-def being delivered to a TV via an internet device or something connected to your Mac such as an AppleTV. So the latest iMovie is aimed more at "internet sharing" for displaying edited movies, rather than being aimed at burning to a DVD ..things may change, but speculation's not allowed here at iMovie Discussions..)
