HT4759 how to back up manually on a computer that cannot be upgraded...on leopard only

I have an imac on 10.5.8.  It has Leopard and it cannot be upgraded any more.
I would like to use icloud manually; however, the instructions assume that you have an upgraded machine.  When I called Apple they said I could do it.  Now I do not know what to do.
Thanks!

  • How do I create a reader extended quiz that cannot be saved after submitting form

I'm trying to creat a quiz (using a form) that can be submitted via e-mail from the client. I cannot use "distribute form" as this will be used in a factory environment on a shared computer. How do I make the form so the quiz is not saved with the answers filled in?

With FDF, the person reading the file has to have Acrobat. AA7 sounds write, but at this point most folks have that (except for folks like me who have a different version of Acrobat on each machine with 4 through 9).
With Reader, folks can submit a FDF file by e-mail (not preferred and prone to client setup issues) or a web script. You can also use the FDF Toolkit (Adobe download) to manipulate the submitted FDFs if desired. I do not believe that Reader can import the FDF file, but I do not have Reader installed to check on that (actually I could do it at home with my old desktop that has Reader on it -- but no time soon). As far as filling the form out and submitting it with a FDF file, there should be no problem with Reader. As to how far back in Reader versions this is true may be another question. One of the issues deals with keeping out all of the newer features in your form. You might do that by using the Save as -- Reduce File Size or PDF Optimize to put it in a prior version. Be sure to check your form afterwards to be sure it is still functional.
FDF is the standard data output for AcroForms (Designer creates XML forms). The use of the data submission avoids the need to activate Reader Rights that has EULA limitations on the use.
I will let others address the distribution and submission issues, but I think the answer is yes.
For FDF based forms, the form is developed entirely in Acrobat, not Designer. Many folks automatically head to Designer through the forms menu, but it is not necessary. Designer has some advanced features that are useful for some situations, so you have to look at the tradeoffs if you go there. Most needs can be satisfied by AcroForms (forms directly in Acrobat). I have always felt more control of an AcroForm, but I honestly can not give a good comparison. George Johnson gives a lot of comments on forms and can probably direct you to a good comparison or answer specific questions better than most of us. He gave your first response on this discussion. Hopefully this clarifies things a bit.

  • Backing up personal files to Time capsule and then upgrading to Leopard

    Hi.
I recently bought the upgrade disks to Leopard from 10.4.11.
    i also bought Time capsule.
I was advised in the store to save all my personal files (photos, I tunes library, work) to time capsule, then perform a clean upgrade to Leopard, the replace all my personal files to my iMac, then doing the complete system back up to the time capsule.
I have managed to get the iMac talking to Timecapsule, I can print so this is all cool, but how do I save all my personal data to the timecapsule? I'm sorry if this is too daft a question, but I have tried seeing if there was an intuitive way of learning this on the Mac but as these files are so important, I really don't want to make a mistake that would lead to me losing everything.
    Many thanks in advance.
    M.

in the Finder use the Go command (top file menu) and in the window type afp://10.0.1.1 or whatever your TC ip address is, then you should be able to access that hard drive. you should use Airport Utility to assign a password to your TC hard drive.

  • How to view cc files on a computer that only has photoshop cs6

I have the new version of photoshop on my computer that only allows me to save files as: photoshop cc.  However, I would like to transfer these files to view on a computer, which is at school, that only allows me to view files from photoshop cs6 or older (cs4, etc.).  I would like to work on projects on my personal computer at home and finish them on the computer at school.  So, how can see my files that are in creative cloud on a computer that only has photoshop cs6?

Need a little more information.  Never heard of a Photoshop cc file, maybe I'm missing something.  When you save a file the first time there is a drop down menu allowing you to save the photo as a number of different file extensions, i.e.. PSD, tiff, jpeg.  There is no photoshop cc.  File uploaded to your folder on the cloud retain their extensions.

  • How do I limit access of a computer that is plugged directly into the router?

I have an AirPort Extreme, Version 7.6.1  I need to limit access of a computer that's plugged by usb directly into the router.  I have the MAC address for this computer and have had restrictions on it the in the past, but it was connected by WiFi then.  How do I do this?  Do I limit access to the Ethernet ID?  I don't want to lock myself out trying to figure it out; I did that last night.  Can someone advise please.

You could use OpenDNS's parental controls:
    http://www.opendns.com/home-solutions/parental-controls
It can restrict access according to your specifications for everyone on your network.
    It's free.

  • HT4759 how do i do a backup this computer said I have not done a backup for 19 weeks what am i backing up i really don't need a back up

HOW DO I BACKUP THIS COMPUTER

You can either backup your iPad by connecting it to your computer's iTunes and doing File > Devices > Back Up
Or you backup to iCloud via Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > Back Up Now
    Backups and restores : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4079
Backing up takes a copy of your documents, files, photos etc - a full list is included in an iTunes backup is shown on this page : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946
If your iPad goes into recovery mode or needs replacing then having a backup means that you can restore your content back onto it, or onto a replacement device

  • How do I retrieve data from a HD that cannot be repaired with utility disk?

    Hi,
I have a macbook pro 15 inch mid 2010. It has 4gb of ram and 500gb of storage. I recently upgraded to Mavericks OSX10.9,4.
First of all, when turning on my mac the screen just loads forever, hence it does not pick up the HD. It also displayed the circle with a line through icon once.
Upon noticing this, I tried to repair the disk but it said it was unable to. The other disks are ok but the MAC HD says it stopped repairing when I attempted to repair it.
Using single user mode (command + s): I tried this, but it continued to says the same i/o error code:
    disk0s2: i/o error.n
0 [level 3] [facility com.apple.system.fs] [errtype IO] [IOType Read] [PBlkNum 57547320] [LBlkNum 67604]
    0 [level 3] [facility com.apple.system.fs] [DevNode root_device] {mountPt /] [Path /private/var/db/dyld/dyld_shared_cache_x86_64]
And it kept going and going.
I'm afraid to try anything else. I have no Mac back up in time machine (I know) but I have an external. Is it possible to retrieve the data by wiping the external and using the utility disk to transfer to HD to the external? Is that what people call cloning? Is this physical damage/can i still recover the data/use it and section off the damaged parts and use the spare space?
    Help would be appreciated!

i/o errors generally mean that a part of the disk cannot be read. That can prevent the disk mounting or prevent the entire disk being read after the error.
Disk Utility is not great at addressing issues like this & data recovery specialists are the safest (and most expensive) option for recovering data from a disk in this state.
As others have said it's critical to avoid any use of the disk since if it's a mechanical fault it could seize or finally give up functioning.
If you are intent on recovering 'on your own & on the cheap' you could look at ddrescue – it clones a disk by copying the data stream whilst ignoring errors from the source disk, the data on the second disk could be 'repairable' with additional tools.
    http://www.gnu.org/software/ddrescue/ddrescue.html
TestDisk & Photorec are also good when used for the right fault.
    http://www.cgsecurity.org
These are all *nix tools & require competence at the command line! Just installing can be too much for some non technical users.
You also need lots of spare disks to move data onto to run the tools.
Kappy, is CNET Downloads really a good recommendation? They have a habit of bundling other junk with third party app installers. Go straight to the vendors site would be my advice (using 'https' where available).
