  • I can't access my music on itunes match.

I've been having problems with itunes match. My songs seem to have disappeared from the cloud. I have a large library of music stored on an external harddrive (almost 20,000 songs). After a long wait for everything to match / upload I used match for a couple days and it worked fine. Assuming all my music was in the cloud now, I disconnected my external harddrive and closed itunes. I was then unable to use match on my iphone. I opened itunes on my macbook again, and my library shows up, but I am unable to play songs without the harddrive connected. I am also unable to download songs from the cloud to my iphone. I think I have tried everything as far as signing out and back in, updating match, re-authorizing computer. I have also checked all the settings for match on the iphone. Truthfully I'm not sure if I messed something up by checking all the different settings. I did authorize another computer at around the same time as this all occured, not sure if this may have something to do with it. Any help or suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks, Mike

I'm not sure about why you are having issues with your iPhone, but I suspect that the external drive is at the root of it.
From what I understand, if you have your library on an external, but want to use the cloud versions, you need to actually delete the songs from your iTunes library first. I suspect that if you don't your iTunes library is under the impression that the files are stored locally and looks for them.
Tio do this, you need to select all the songs and delete them from iTunes. Make sure that you don't check the box to also delete them from the cloud, and also that you don't send the files to your recycle bin (as you don't want to lose your original files). iTunes will then try to play the cloud versions.
However, it sounds to me as if in your attempting to get this all working you have messed something else up. Are the songs actually showing up on your phone? I have a concern that somehow you may have inadvertantly deleted the music from the cloud.
If the songs have been removed from the cloud then all may not be lost, as they do seem to be retained there for a while, and you may not need to re-upload everything. If that is the case then I would suggest plugging the external in, making sure the songs all play OK and then re-running the match process.
If your intention was to be able to use your external when at home and the cloud version when you are away then the only solution I have heard of yet is to have two libraries, one which has the files still on it (that you use with the external plugged in) and the other with the files deleted, for when you haven't got the external.
Hopefully that makes some sort of sense.

  • HT203288 can't find my music in itunes

can't ftnd my music in itunes library

So I put all my music into the iTunes folder (copied it back from my external hard drive) but when I open iTunes, it doesn't "find" it.
If you didn't back up or restore the iTunes database files, you also need to drag the music into the open iTunes application window.
What are the chances that Apple will let me redownload all of her purchases?
And last question, I know that they only let you copy your music onto "5" computers.
For most purposes, that doesn't apply to recent song purchases.

  • Can't access the music on my iPod, iTunes freezes up

Hello out there, I have a problem with my fifth generation 30 GB iPod video. It has worked like a dream until yesterday. I plugged my iPod into my computer (HP laptop running Windows Vista) and it showed up in iTunes as usual. I dragged three albums onto my iPod and it did the usual routine of updating. When it was done I clicked the eject symbol in the iTunes menu and waited for the battery to show on the iPod screen before disconnecting. I turned on the iPod to listen to these new tunes and now my iPod appears to be blank. Under artists, albums, songs, etc there are no longer any options.
Okay, I have the day off from work so I figure I'll just sync it back up and put all 30 gigs back on. I plug the iPod in, iTunes opens automatically, and then freezes. After unplugging the iPod itunes resumes working. I try this several more times, restart the computer, restart the iPod, etc and it keeps doing the same thing.
Frustrated (as this happened once before with a much older iPod several years ago) I headed over to these forums. From looking around I saw the five R's that are always suggested. After reseting, retrying, and restarting, the problem still persists: I can't access the music on my ipod, and itunes freezes.
I then updated to the newest version of itunes. This also did nothing to solve the problem. I want to attempt to restore my ipod, unfortunately this is not possible because I can't access the iPod options through itunes because it freezes as soon as the ipod is attached to the computer.
After reading several threads on these support forums I stumbled on this one: (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1480926&tstart=0) in which a user recommends downloading an alternative iPod manager. I followed the link in that thread and settled on a program called poddox, hoping I could just throw all my music back onto my iPod with it. So I again plugged in my ipod, waited for itunes to freeze, closed it as it was not responding, and opened podox. Podox reported that all of my music is still on the iPod (it says there is less than 200 megs of space available).
Unfortunately poddox won't work for me either. Upon attempting to use it to remove all the data on my ipod my computer crashed and restarted. This is strange because although itunes freezes when the ipod is plugged in, it still appears as a removable disk in windows.
I returned to the apple website and downloaded and older, seperate ipod updater software from 2006. I installed the software and it restarted my computer. When I ran the ipod updater I received a message informing me that this software was no longer supported and that if i wanted to update my ipod's software or restore it I should just do it through itunes v.7 or later. The program then quits, and I have no choice.
I'm about ready to pull my hair out here. What can I do? It seems like a real catch 22 in that I need to restore my ipod for itunes to recognize it but i can't restore it because itunes doesn't recognize it. From what I gather there is no way to restore it without using itunes, is this accurate? What can I do to either delete all the data on my pod and reload it, or make it appear again in my ipod's menu/interface? Any help you guys can give is greatly appreciated, I will be monitoring the responses to this thread in case anyone should need more information from me. Thanks again.

right, figured it out. had to put it in disk mode, then reconnect, then it was recognized, then i restored and put everything back onto it. hope this helps anyone else who has a similar problem

  • My iPod was made on Windows, now I have a Mac and can't access the music on the iPod to carry over to new iTunes. What to do?

I am unsure whether it can be reformatted? On the summary when I plug in the ipod (pretty sure it's a nano 4th gen) it shows the format as Windows. However now I have a Mac, I can't access the music library on the ipod, and I'm not game to try 'export' as I don't know what it will do, and I won't sync as I will lose that music library. I am thinking of making an appointment to see the Apple staff at the shop but I'm not sure if I will need to get a new ipod in the end??

  • Can I access my husband's iTunes acct. from my iPad?  I have his permission & pass code.  We want to keep all music in one place & family accessible.

Can I access my husband's iTunes acct. from my iPad?  i have his permission & pass code.  We want to keep all music in one place & family accessible.

If you log into his account and download some of his past purchases on your iPad then you risk tying your iPad to his account for 90 days : iTunes Store: Associating a device or computer to your Apple ID
But it looks like that might change when iOS 8 is released in the Autumn (no date has been announced yet) : http://www.apple.com/ios/ios8/family-sharing/
If you have his content in your computer's iTunes library then you could sync it from there instead of risking the 90 days association on your iPad. If you don't then you could copy it from his computer and then sync it to your iPad e.g. copy his music to a flash drive and then add it to your library via File > Add To Library

  • I have subscribed to I Tunes Match on my computer where I've been syncing and backing up my I Phone.  Can I access my music before all the artwork is uploaded from my computer?

I have subscribed to I Tunes Match on my computer where I've been syncing and backing up my I Phone.  Can I access my music before all the artwork is uploaded from my computer?

    Hi,
You will no longer be able to sync manually with match. I would suggest that you wait until match has competed its process on your computer and that you are told how many tracks are in the cloud.
If you activate match on your iOS device too soon, you may find that all your tracks are not there. Ps it is not just artwork that is being uploaded, it's music as well.

Do you have iTunes match? You need a computer to manage an iTunes match library.

  • I updated my apple Id, now I can't access my music

My old apple ID was an email I don't use anymore, so I decided to update it. When I logged in to appleid.apple.com, it prompted me to change my password because my old one did not fit the new requirements. After I changed my password I changed my apple ID. I verified that it had changed with my new email and everything was all set. I set everything up on my phone with the new ID (after some trial and error), but now when I sync my iphone to itunes it asks me to authorize purchases I made with the old ID. No matter what password I put in, it won't accept it, not the original password (before it prompted me to change it) or any subsequent. It then redirects me to iforget where it offers to send me my password. I check the old email, but the password never comes (it doesn't end up in spam either). Now, I can't access any music I purchased under the old apple ID on my phone and I have a feeling that when it comes time to update paid-for apps that I purchased under the old ID that will be impossible as well. If anyone can help me I would very much appreciate it. I know other people are struggling with this issue too.
Also, I didn't know which community to post this to, so this question might end up in a couple.

You might want to try contacting Apple for assistance by going to https://expresslane.apple.com, then click See All Products and Services>iTunes>iTunes Store>Passwords & Security Questions>Lost or Forgotten Apple ID password.  They should be able to explain what's going on and help you reset the password for the old ID if necessary.  The call should be free.

  • If I copy a CD (either music or audio) on my Windows based Pc can I access the copy using itunes?

If i copy a Cd (either music or audio) on my Windows based PC can I access the copy using itunes.  I have a ipod Nano, 7th generation.

You should use iTunes to "rip" (encode) the songs directly into your iTunes library from the CDs.  This article provides a good description of how that is done using iTunes.
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1156861/howto_rip_cds.html
If you use some other program to encode the content on those CDs, you can add any audio files that are in a format that iTunes can play (such as MP3 and AAC) to your iTunes library.  "Windows Media" files are not playable by iTunes, but the Windows version of iTunes can convert them while importing (as long as the files do not use DRM).

The ! sign before the song means that the actual song is no longer on your computer and/or iTunes library.

  • How can I access my music in the iCloud?

how can i access my music from my itunes on my Mac, on my Mc book pro?

There isn't currently any iCloud music streaming, if that what you mean.
iTunes Match will be coming, probably late October, early November. That will provide streaming.
If your just talking about music you bought on, say, your iPhone and want it to appear on your Mac, go into iTunes preferences (on your Mac), click the "Store" icon and make sure that Automatic Downloads are turned on. That will keep your Mac iTunes library up to date when you buy on your iDevice.
If you've got older stuff that you need to download, you can go into your Purchased section in iTunes and click on "Download Previous Purchases" which should show you everything you've bought. You can re-download from there.
