If i haven't upgraded to lion yet, can i fully migrate to icloud when i do upgrade to lion?

Welcome to the Apple Community.
You need to migrate to iCloud before midnight on Saturday, you don't need to have Lion to do that, you just wont be able to use any of the features except Mail with Snow Leopard until you update to Lion.

The apple store is so unhelpful. I have an iMac computer operating on Mac OSX 10.5.8. I want to upgrade to the latest Mountain Lion operating system so I can work with the iCloud on my computer and download my emails. I can't seem to purchase this on-line as it keeps telling me to go to the app store. I haven't got the app store on my computer as I am told I need iCloud for which I need the new operating system, which I can't download or purchase as I am sent back to an instruction telling mee to go to the app store icon.
How difficult can it be to simply purchase the software on-line have it shipped to you so you can install it, in the event it cannot be downloaded as it appears it can't be based on my curent operating systems being Mac OSX 10.5.8.

Whilst Apple have withdrawn Snow Leopard from download, you can still get it from Apple by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE (if you are in the USA) and they will supply the SL DVD for $30.  You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion from the same number.

  • Verizon is actually asking why I haven't upgraded!

I have been with Verizon for nearly 20 years, and currently have a family share plan; 4 phones (3 smartphones [2-unlimited data, 1-2GB data], + 1 feature phone).  For years, I was practically a cheerleader for Verizon, due to their great cell service, resonable prices, great customer service, and rewards for loyalty. I always upgraded when my line(s) were eligible, and have paid Verizon much more than I would really like to actually figure out during those 20 years!
However, that has changed, all in the course of just a year or two.  First, their NE2 dropped from $100 to $50.  Then it was dropped to $0.  Then they started charging $30 for the "priviledge" of signing another 2 year contract.  Then they stopped offering Unlimited data (but grandfathered it in).  Then they got rtid of unlimited data completely (unless you want to pay full retail ($500+).  Then they gave us a family data plan that does not save families much money at all (which is what everyone was really asking for), and actually increases costs for many of us.  All of this during a period of time when they are making record profits (from data), and are heavily marketing and pushing the data capabilities of their products.
My phone (primary, smartphone, unlimited data) has been eligible for an upgrade since April.  That is right around the time that Verizon decided to step up their policy of screwing loyal customers to a fever pitch, so I made the decision that I would not give Verizon any more of my cash than I absolutely had to.  I decided to vote with my wallet, not upgrade, and likely drop Verizon for something else.   Of course, with multiple phones/multiple contract dates, it is difficult to simply drop the entire plan and walk away, but I am biding my time untill each of those lines come off contract, (the 2nd of which is coming up soon) and then will likely move to a different provider.  See, I'm not just complaining, as some here have suggested, but I am in fact putting my money where my mouth is.
Interestingly, I got an email from Verizon today, asking me why I haven't upgraded yet, and asking me to fill out a survey.  I laughed at first, but then went ahead and filled out the survey.  Unfortunately, it didn't allow me to actually write any of my thoughts, but only provided multiple choice questions instead.  However, that did allow me to tell them that the major reason for not upgrading was 1) their new upgrade policies (including both the $30 fee and loss of unlimited data) and 2) their new plans (specifically their "share everything" plan).  This survey, just about 10 questions, made it a point to mention those new policies and plans, and ask about them.  Are they starting to see some actual pushback from customers?
Perhaps if everyone resisted the urge to get the newest available phones the second they are able to, and instead sat on their old phones for a while when their upgrade became available, Verizon would start to see how their recent policies are negatively affecting their customers' perceptions about them.  They might even pull back on those policies a bit?  By the time my 4th line is up, if they haven't started to move back toward the policies that made them #1 in the first place, I will likely bail.  That is not a threat, just reality.  Of course, Verizon could care less about a single customer, even one with 4 lines and a $250 month bill.  But if everyone had the conviction to do just that, you would see Verizon change.  Wishful thinking, perhaps.

I wish you the best and hope you will keep us informed of your decisions.  I have two lines that have phones eligible for replacement 9/28/12.  I've read all the rumors but can't find on "My Verizon" any explanation of what options will be open to us.  My bill is a little more than half yours and I too have been with Verizon more than 15 years, I don't like the more money grubbing approach.
I need info that Verizon doesn't seem to want to give me.  I may go elsewhere.
you will have the option to keep your current plan (with the exception of a couple VERY old altell plans i think). however, if you have unlimited data, then you will have to select the 2gig individual data plan ($30/month). if you do this, your bill stays the same, but you have a 2 gig cap on data, as opposed to having unlimited data. your other option would be to switch to the share everything plan (will cost much more on an account with only 2 lines) or a prepaid plan.

  • We run an iMac 3.4 GHz I7 for our church worship service; we haven't upgraded to Mavericks because we heard about issues with multiple screens crashing.  Has this issue been resolved?  Thank you!

We run an iMac 3.4 GHz I7 in our church worship service; we have front screens and a stage display monitor ; we haven't upgraded to Mavericks because we heard about issues with multiple screens crashing.  Has this issue been resolved?  Now that we are 2 upgrades behind, I'm getting little concerned.  Thank you!

Oh, well that was a whole other kettle of fish:
Oh the G4 I attempted to install iLife '08 before Lepoard was available. About the only thing that installed cleanly was iPhoto. I ended up reinstalling everything back to iLife '06, and then upgrading back to the current stable version of the iLife '06 version. I didn't attempt a reinstall until after I upgraded to Leopard.
When I did reinstall, I made a iLife '06 folder, copied all iLife apps into it, and upgraded. Seemed to work, except for the part where iMovie gets left behind and iDVD is only mostly functional.
When I installed on the other 2 machines, it was after installing Leopard and all upgrades. On those 2 machines, I didn't bother with the copy, I just moved everything to the iLife '06 folder I created, and did a fresh install.
I didn't have to do anything with the iPhoto Libraries, that I can recall.
I always do an upgrade, never an archive and install. I've never had a problem with this back to 10.1 or 10.2.

  • My Mac has a OS X operating system. (10.6.8) How can I upgrade its system to Mountain Lion so I can then add the ICloud?

My Mac has a OS X operating system. (10.6.8) How can I upgrade its system to Mountain Lion so I can then add the ICloud? Also, does the ICloud include virus protection for files already on my Mac?

You can purchase and download Mountain Lion in the App Store (in your 'Applications' folder), then just run the installer: however you should first check that Mountain Lion can indeed run on your Mac. Please see this page:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
You might also want to look at this page to see whether any vital applications will be adversely affected:
    http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
In particular note that PPC applications such as AppleWorks will not run on Mountain Lion since Rosetta is not included and can't be added.

  • In the home page why does Firefox say I haven't upgraded when I have. This has been going on for over three weeks, I am now on 9 and still it says I have not upgraded.

In the home page why does Firefox say I haven't upgraded when I have. So I upgrade again and still it says I haven't next time I log on. Today I upgraded to 9, it said congratulations on upgrading, I log off then log back on only to be told yet again I need to upgrade. What is going on?

  • My address book contacts keep disappearing and I haven't upgraded only updated.  Any ideas?

My address book contacts disappear from the address book application, but when I check the library the files seem to be there.  If I click on one of the files that should contain contact info, they are blank.  I've restored the files twice from my time capsule and it works for awhile and then suddenly they seem to be missing again.  I haven't upgraded to OS X, so the online support on address book does not help.  I've only been maintaining the automatic updates.  Any thoughts on my magically disappearing contacts?  It makes synching my ipod a dangerous act.

ymcneil - thanks for the work around. But isn't it amazing Apple forces us to do this to maintain our privacy.
I live in Australia where there are good privacy laws protecting  citizens. I do not want to be forced to use iCloud when the data sits in  the USA with weaker privacy laws and also able to be seen by the US  Government under the Patriot Act. Further I suspect Apple will  interrogate my contacts and calendar for commercial purposes and I do  not want that either.
I  chose to synch my calendar and contacts with my iphone and ipad. I have  relied for years on carrying around my phone with my diary on it. I can  no longer do that.
Whoever  made this decision at Apple has to be someone who knows little about  the world. I can actually see EU regulators getting very annoyed by  this.
I too woud like the itunes mac to iphone/ipad local backup given back.
In the meantime - thanks for the work around

  • I write Journals on iphoto but with ios8 the journal goes away so I haven't upgraded. However, a journal I was working on last week won't function now. What should I do?

The journal function of iphoto is going away with ios8 so I haven't upgraded as I have a journal I am working on and several I want to save. The journal function will now not let me write in it and it won't save to itunes. Help.

No, not paired to anything else, fresh out the box connected to the mac mini I bought at the same time, never been paired with anything else.
I think it's a hardware issue. As I don't seem to be able to get it to turn off.

  • TS3988 iCloud will not accept any passwords after upgrading OS. 2 days of trying every password I have ever used, AND changing Apple ID and iTunes ID, still nothing. Can't backup on iCloud anymore.

How can I use iCloud again after upgrading OS to Mountain Lion?  2 days of trying every password I have ever used, AND changing Apple ID and iTunes ID, still nothing. Can't backup on iCloud anymore.

Apple ID's can be used for anything, a single ID can be used for all your accounts (ie iCloud, iTunes, MAS, Apple community etc), ideally this would be the way forward. So far as iTunes goes you need to continue to use the same ID as you have always used or you will lose access to your previous purchases and your iTunes match subscription.
If you are using a second ID for iCloud, you can continue to do so or use the ID you use for iTunes, but if you choose the later you will need to move all your calendar, contact etc data to the account using the ID you use for iTunes.
When (if) you change which account you use you would delete the account on an iOS device and log back in with the correct details, on a mac you would sign out in the iCloud system preference pane.

  • I'm trying to migrate from mobileMe to iCloud but I have Snow Leopard (the latest version). It looks like Lion is no longer available because Mountain Lion comes out next month (July). The problem is mobileMe ends on June 30th. How can I migrate?

I'm trying to migrate from mobileMe to iCloud but I have Snow Leopard (the latest version). It looks like Lion is no longer available because Mountain Lion comes out next month (July). The problem is mobileMe ends on June 30th. How can I migrate?
My iphone and my ipad are compatible but when I try to go to icloud on my phone it says to do it on my computer.
I would like to have my calendar, contacts, etc.. all sync like they do now. Is there a way to upgrade before June 30th? If not, will the gap be an issue or will I just be able to buy mountain lion and sync everything?
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you!

You can buy Lion in the App Store now, but move to iCloud now. If you wait to Mountain Lion, you will only have Mail in Snow Leopard, so you will lose syncing unless you use Lion or Mountain Lion. It's up to you

  • Updated to Snow Leopard so that I can update to Mountain Lion.  Can I do this?  When I try, it says incompatible

  • HT5225 I have Mac OSX snow leopard , which I think is OSX10.6.8. I did as I was told and migrated to icloud having advised that not all devices were up to the Lion. I now find that the mobile phone receives the emails and so does the ipad, but not my desk

I have Mac OSX snow leopard , which I think is OSX10.6.8. I did as I was told and migrated to icloud having advised that not all devices were up to the Lion. I now find that the mobile phone receives the emails and so does the ipad, but not my desktoptop. I have received an email from apple saying I would be able to receive the emails. Why cant I?  What do I have to do ? Surely it is not necessary to buy another upgrade???

10.7.2 is required for full iCloud facilities, but you can still use your email. In theory you should be able to access your email in Mail at the same server settings, but this hasn't worked for everyone: you can set Mail up manually to access your iCloud email:
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Snow Leopard or Leopard
Once migrated, your mail will also be available at http://icloud.com

  • Afterf vs 6 upgrade. my outlook exchange site loads, but can't maneuver...when I click on something it locks up showing an error with java...can't read all as it locks

after vs 6 upgrade. my outlook exchange site loads, but can't maneuver within page. when I click on something it won't move, but locks up and an error message comes up mentioning java problem...but can't read it all as the page is locked. needs to x out and reload.
its the web page version of outlook exchange. there may also be a couple of other sites..after it loads, can't click on anything..no response....checked for latest version of java...and it verified I have latest.
    never happended before

    Whaoo,
Looks like all I needed to do was ask the question and I would answer it.
It is definitely the outlook 2013 calendar item that had the new status.  Even though I changed the item to a valid status, I needed to completely remove the item and add it back in with a valid legacy status from the start.

  • I can't set up iCloud drive on my iMac after upgrading to Yosemite

I can't set up iCloud drive on my iMac after upgrading to Yosemite - iPhone and iPad are updated but both say my iMac isn't (even though it is running Yosemite).
My iMac is OS X Yosemite 10.10 (14A389), memory is 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 and storage capacity is 273.64 free of 999.35 GB.
When i go to System Preferences and click on iCloud. The iCloud Drive section is greyed out and says setting up and a spinning pin wheel. It stays like this the whole time. I have tried restarting the computer. i amanita sure what else to do to make it work. Any suggestion would be great.

I found another way to correct this...
    1)  Select Message, then go to Preferences,
    2)  a window will appear with 3 options, General, Accounts, Audio Video, don't be surprised when you see a video of yourself, your camera just turned on.
    3) Select Accounts (you may have several here)
    4) Select the account that has "iMessage" under the account name.  This may likely be your Apple ID  ****@me.com
    5) Look at what is checked under the "You can be reached for messages at:"
    6) Select the one account (or more if you like) and deselect the others
    7) Close the window and the problem goes away.
I'm not longer getting my sons iMessages.

  • HI, I recently upgraded my operating system IOS 5.0.1 on an iphone 3gs. MY question is, how do I get the text messaging preview to just pop up so that I can see the name only when the lock screen is on? The conventional ways of doing this aren't working

HI, I recently upgraded my operating system IOS 5.0.1 on an iphone 3gs. My question is, how do I get the text messaging preview to just pop up so that I can see the name only when the lock screen is on? The conventional ways of doing this, such as using turning off the SMS preview under the "passcode lock", well that option no longer exists, or if it does, I'm somehow missing it.
When I go to the "messages" setting under settings on my phone, I still don't see an option of turning it off.
If I can just get the name of the person sending the message, as I had it before, I'd be happy.
    Help!

That option still exists in Settings > Notifications > Messages > Show Prview (OFF) and View in Lock Screen (ON). Here's how to configure your Notifications and Notification Center for iOS 5: http://iphone-and-i.blogspot.com/2012/01/how-to-customize-notification-center-in .html
