HT4759 Using ICloud with my MacBook Pro

Am I unable to use ICloud with my new IPhone5 if my MacBook Pro is OSX version 10.6.8 and if so, does it cost money to update my computer or are there free downloads I can do?

Below are the minimum system requirements for iCloud:

iPhone, iPad, iPod touch
iOS 5*
Mac
OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later*

  • I currently use iCloud on a MacBook Pro. I opened my iBook G4 that I haven't used in several years and am unable to access my MobileMe account with many stored emails that I would like to transfer to the MacBook Pro. I have tried all of the passwords.

I currently use iCloud on a MacBook Pro. I opened my iBook G4 that hasn't been used in years. I have many email messages that i would like to transfer to the MacBook Pro, but every password I use to access MobileMe is not accepted. Any suggestions on retrieving or transferring the emails?

MobileMe was discontinued around 2 years ago.  Anything on the MMe servers are long gone. The MMe passwords are uselsess because MMe is no more.
Unless you created an iCloud account back before MMe was taken off line you won't be able to recover any emails.

  • How can I access iCloud with my Macbook Pro with 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo?

I would like to know how to use iCloud on my MacBook Pro as I have other Apple products that are newer than this laptop and I would like to synch with the iCloud between all products.  I can synch with the iCloud with my iphone 5 and my iMac.

You must be able to upgrade it to 10.7.2 or later for iCloud:
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

    I found a similar question on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/2560x1080-resolution-macbook-resolution-option-/forum/Fx15 6DUSW1J104N/Tx14L2NHT4Y3F8K/1/ref=cm_cd_ql_tlc_al?_encoding=UTF8&asin=B00JM99DIU
It looks like you may need a mini-displayport to Displayport cable. You can also try holding the option key while clicking on "scaled" to see if the option you need comes up.

I too experienced the same issue.  Here are my details:
Recently I bought a 15” Macbook Pro and last night I tried to connect and use a Edirol FA/66 Firewire 400 connected outboard audio interface using a Firewire 400 to 800 adapter then connected to a Firewire 800 to Thunderbolt adapter since the MBP doesn’t have a native Firewire port.  What I observed is that the Edirol was not getting power from the bus nor did the MBP (running Yosemite) recognize the Edriol.  At first I thought there was a problem with the Edirol since I haven’t used it in a while but when I connected it to an older MBP that has a native Firewire port, it worked normally.  Is there a known issue with these sorts of external audio interfaces working properly with newer MBP running Yosemite?  I’m hoping that a software update will fix this issue.

The only thing you can do with Bluetooth on a MacBook/iPhone combination is tether (i.e., hotspot / use the phone's cellular connection as a data source for internet on the MacBook)

  • Using icloud, is my macbook pro out of the loop?

want to sync my macbook pro with my other apple products now with icloud?

You can if it meets the requirements:
    Lion System Requirements
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
Yes, if you have purchased Lion you can install it on the other computer. However, the other computer will first need to be upgraded to Snow Leopard in order for you to re-download the Lion installer.

  • Have PS Element 12 using it with new MacBook pro.  When I edit and save a photo in jpeg format, and try to e-mail it, it has a duplicate but ghost image underneath, and I don't want this second image.  How do I get rid of it?

    Hi Panamark,
The problem has been resolved for me. I am a little fuzzy on how it got fixed.
I only have 3G, so I think I went to the library to use wi-fi.
I think I just deleted the stuck apps, and the downloaded them again. You do not have to pay again when you download a previously purchased app.
It is now August, and fortunately I have not had any stuck apps lately.
As you may already know, you cannot download an app over 20 MB via 3G.
I have the Kindle app also. No new updates lately. I only bought one thing using Kindle. It was a guide to iPad that was only $1.99 or so, but it did not really have anything that cannot be found in normal free Apple guide.
I have borrowed an ebook from the library using Overdrive app. You can choose the ebook version from Kindle.
I don't have any weather apps.
Let me know what happened when you get the chance.

  • Unable to use WAP Transitional with a MacBook Pro

I have a new Airport Extreme which I have configured as a bridge from my DSL modem (which supports NAT, a firewall and all that). I have been able to use it with my MacBook Pro when I have an open, unencrypted network, but when I turn on WAP I can no longer connect to the internet, or even to my cable modem for that matter.
I have been playing with all the various options with Airport Utility (and have done the firmware upgrade on the Airport Extreme). I've tried automatic channel allocation, and setting channel 3, 11, and so on. I've tried having the AE use DHCP to get its own IP address (which works) and assigning an IP on my local network, but neither will let my machine get through to the DHCP server!
My configuration is right out of the manual, but I have tried plugging in the internet connection to the LAN and WAN ports, just to be safe.
Needless to say, the Airport Extreme light is green and according to the status in the Airport Utility, everything is good to go. Except, that it isn't.
I also notice that I cannot connect to the Airport Extreme with an older 802.11b card, so it looks like WEP/WAP is still in the future, unless someone has a few hints on how to use this box.

I would like to delete the question. It is being posed under another account. Unfortunately, question deletion and forum alias change are unimplemented features.

  • How does one continue to use Mail on the early MacBook Pro, Model 1,1, that is not upgradable to Lion?  I have been running iCloud on my iPhone (OS5) and iMac (Lion) along with the MacBook Pro (OS Version 10.6.8)

How does one continue to use Mail on the early MacBook Pro, Model 1,1, that is not upgradable to Lion?  I have been running iCloud on my iPhone (OS5) and iMac (Lion) along with the MacBook Pro (OS Version 10.6.8) since November until now.  Mail will no longer download on the MacBook Pro and keeps asking for my password.

Mail should still be usable with your machine - but you'll need to update the settings to conform to the requirements of your system. Check with your ISP (like ATT, etc.) for the settings that will work with your Mail. Once you've updated this, you should be able to email like before.
For example, my ISP required that I go to Mail Preferences/Accounts and make sure the details conform to your email settings.
I have no idea of what your ISP is or what the settings might be, but this is likely the source of the problem.

  • I only show one iCloud on my IPhone that can do a restore. I synced it with my MacBook Pro and I think that may have messed things up. Prior to that I have several backups. Will a "genius" be able to access the info I need?

If things seem to be going haywire with your phone, it seems that it MAY be a software issue.
Now, that being said, that does not necessarily mean that it is a virus. Software issues do happen sometimes. It is probably just coincidence.
What you need to do is restore the device using iTunes. This will fix any software issues. After you have done this, you can restore from an iCloud backup.
iCloud does not back up the actual software, so no, the "virus" would not have gotten into the backups.
The link below provides steps on restoring your device using iTunes as well as how to restore from an iCloud backup.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
Don't worry! Everything should be back to normal if you follow these steps.
