HT4790 Disk space seems to be an issue when attempting to use Firevault 2.0

This error occurs when selecting to Turn off Legacy FireVault.

Temporarily copy all or most of the files in your home folder to another volume, such as an external drive. Delete the original (that includes emptying the Trash.) Log out and log back in. You should then be able to deactivate legacy FileVault. Move the files back where they were.

  • Client Communication Issues when attempting to retire old ADCS Certificate Authority

    Hi,
SCCM 2012 R2 running on 2008R2. Single site.
We've been migrating our environment to a new SHA2 Microsoft CA and we're seeing issues when attempting to retire our old SHA1 CA server.
We've had a fully functioning PKI integrated SCCM environment for some time. No issues. All our clients have client certificates deployed via group policy.
We've spun up a new CA and installed new SHA2 distribution point and webserver certificates on the SCCM server.
We have added the new Root CA certificate to the trusted list in the site properties (both are now listed)
We have confirmed that new machine builds are receiving SHA2 client computer certificates via group policy.
Everything runs happily with the two CA servers configured and running. We would like to retire the old CA server but when we shut it down we find that all older clients (with the SHA1 cert) stop communicating with the management point.
Clients with the newer SHA2 computer certs continue to function. We assumed that the old CA server didn't have to be running for the SHA1 certs to still function. Are we incorrect?
Anyone able to explain what's happening?
    Cheers!

    Hi Jason,
No, we don't have CRL checking enabled in the SCCM site settings. As I understand it that tells the clients to check the site server against the CRL?
We think the issue is due to IIS attempting to check the client certificates against the CRL on the old CA (which is currently turned off)
For now we've temporarily disabled CRL checking in IIS while we attempt to migrate the old CRL to the new CA. All our clients are now talking happily to the management point.
    All good. Cheers.

  • Available disk space seems incorrect

Hello again everyone. Thank you for solving my problem last time. This time I come with another problem I haven't seen anyone else answer.
I think the title says it all. My laptop is telling me I have about 1GB left on my HD, but I KNOW there MUST be more available or there are a lot of hidden files that I can't find that are taking up gigs of space.
I know that this is not right because I have had gigs of video files or the like on here before and still have 20GBs left just fine. (The total HD space I think is 55GB.) I have been deleting file after file after file and it keeps going down and down and down even when I have not downloaded or added anything to it.
I have almost nothing left to delete save picture files which I definitely do not have 20GBs of.
Also, when I open Photoshop, the available disk space goes down significantly (about 1GB). I close PS, disk space comes back. I restart my computer, some more disk space will come back. The most I've been up to recently is 2GB.
If anyone has any ideas or solutions they are very much so appreciated. Thank you.

Awesome program. And it seems to have confirmed my suspicions.
I scanned what I believed to be the biggest folders of stuff: Applications, Documents, Music, and Library. The total for the four was just under 14GBs. 55 - 14 = 41GBs. Is there something I could have missed? I don't have any movies and the pictures folder came up to about 60MBs.
Where have these 41GBs gone to~?

  • I get message: Force Quit Application when I run iTunes about low disk space, yet I have enought disk space. Recurring often, now. When I run disk utility, tons of permissions differ on 'Applications/iTunes...uld be drwxr-x appear.

When I run my iTunes on my Max 0SX after a while I get a window on my screen: message reads: Your Mac 0SX startup disk has no more space available for application memory (even though I run my Utility and have tons of space available.) I run the verify permissions and see tons of messages that read: permissions differ on 'Applications/iTunes...uld be drwxr-x; they are - rwxr-xr-x.' Utility cannot get rid of these 'permission' messges. This also happens when I'm working in iPhoto. Need help, please.
This is not a Utility permissions problem. Seems it is more a disk space problem. HELP tells me to go Downloads and double-click on Downloads and choose Open Downloads.  But this does not work. Downloads will not open. Is it possible Downloads is 'locked?' And if so, how can I unlock Downloads?

Trying to be more clear, here. Now, that I know the permissions are normal when running verify permissions in Utility.
Main problem: when I run iPhoto for some time, or iTunes for some time, on my Mac OSX, I get a window that pops up with a message that reads: Your MacOSX startup disk has no more space available for application memory. (It asks me then to 'quit applications you are not using.' After I do that (even though only one app may be open, it tells me to Relaunch Finder). But when I check I see I have tons of gigabyte  space on my computer, I've only used a miniscule amount of disk space.
I click on this message, without 'relaunching Finder' and I can't get rid of it.
Why is it telling me I have no more disk space when I have tons of space? Why am I getting this message?

  • HT4907 Password Issue when attempting to enable Back to My Mac in iCloud Preferences - HELP?

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, I have a problem enabling Back to My Mac. When I try and enable B2MM in the iCloud preferences window, I am asked to enter my Apple ID password. It says the password is incorrect, even though it IS 100% correct. I've even tried resetting my password (so that the password lives up to the latest security requirements for passwords, etc). So, it's definitely correct, and I'm able to login to my Apple account here (on this Apple laptop as well as on my iPad and iPhone)... it's not an issue when I log in anywhere else... I am only told my password is incorrect when attempting to enable Back to My Mac in the iCloud preferences pane.
    Help?
    Many thanks!

Do these make installation of memeo superfluous? Would I need memeo for daily back up?
From what I gather, you couldn't pay me to use Memeo, nor actually a Seagate enclosure, nor many USB only drives, (USB is not bootable on PPC Macs).
I've used maybe a few dozen backup Apps on the Mac, and I'd personally judge only Apple's Time Machine worse than that one.
If you had it to do all over again, you'd get a case with Firewire, one with an Oxford chipset, not containing a Green Drive, not a Seagate Drive, not less than 7200 RPM drive, & a 32MB Cache, not with a One-Button touch feature, ( not a Bus powered drive like...

  • Memory issue when attempting to open a downloaded ...

When attempting to open a downloaded image, I get this message 'IMAGE VEWER: Memory full. Close some applications and try again'.
What could be the issue & how do I solve this?
    Thanks

    I assume re-transferring the image didn't help?
Under normal circumstances, a 1.3 MB image can't be a problem, since the camera takes pictures around that size.  But the phone doesn't have limitless memory, so the image viewer will have some limitations.  I was able to duplicate your error just now, but only with an 8.4 MB image I found through Google Images.  The resolution was 3880 x 2432 x 24 bit.  If you view the image on a computer, maybe that innocent 1.3 MB file translates into something of similar size, or perhaps it uses an unusual bit depth?  Given the size, that still seems far-fetched, but short of an image viewer bug, that's the only possibility that comes to mind.
If this is the case and you do need to keep the picture accessible, you'd want to load it into a Photoshop-like program and either crop it, add additional compression, or reduce the bit depth.  Good luck!

  • Issues when attempting to create a new 2012 R2 forest through powershell

    Hello,
I've been writing  a script to automate the installation of some new servers, however I'm experiencing an issue when I'm coming to create the forest, for some reason the $DomainName and $ADSecPwd variables are not being passed to the Install-ADDSForest
function.    The $DomainName and $ADSecPwd variables are defined at the top of the script.
When viewing the variables right before execution I can see that they store the right values, however when executing the code PowerShell throws an exception saying that the DomainName parameter cannot be null.  The same is true for the the SafeModePassword.
If I hard code the domainname and password then it works, but I don't want to do this, as I'm going to use this script n multiple domains.
Another issue I have is that the paths are not being created on the specified 'F:\...' drive, instead they are being created in the default location on the C: drive.
Below is a copy of the function I'm using.  Anyone have any ideas why this isn't working as expected?
    function Install_ADForest ($uri, $localcredentials, $DomainName, $ADSecPwd) {
    Invoke-Command -ConnectionUri $uri -Credential $localCredentials -ScriptBlock {
    Install-ADDSForest `
    -DomainMode Win2012R2 `
    -ForestMode Win2012R2 `
    -DatabasePath "F:\Windows\NTDS" `
    -SysvolPath "F:\Windows\SYSVOL" `
    -LogPath "F:\Windows\Logs" `
    -NoRebootOnCompletion:$true `
    -DomainName $DomainName `
    -SafeModeAdministratorPassword $ADSecPwd
    Marcus

    Hi Marcus,
that is because the Invoke-Command is executed on a remote system that does not know the variables in the function. You need to pass them into the scriptblock as arguments like this:
    function Install_ADForest ($uri, $localcredentials, $DomainName, $ADSecPwd)
    Invoke-Command -ConnectionUri $uri -Credential $localCredentials -ArgumentList @($DomainName, $ADSecPwd) -ScriptBlock {
    Param (
    $DomainName,
    $ADSecPwd
    Install-ADDSForest `
    -DomainMode Win2012R2 `
    -ForestMode Win2012R2 `
    -DatabasePath "F:\Windows\NTDS" `
    -SysvolPath "F:\Windows\SYSVOL" `
    -LogPath "F:\Windows\Logs" `
    -NoRebootOnCompletion:$true `
    -DomainName $DomainName `
    -SafeModeAdministratorPassword $ADSecPwd
    Cheers,
    Fred

  • My disk space seems to have grown out of the blue.

Need to know how to perform a disk cleanup to remove temp files and any other space consuming downloads.

You can perform a find operation from the Finder (command-f) and then select "size" from the first of the popup menus in the search window (first starting from the left in the search window). If "size" doesn't appear in the menu select the "other" item and then select "size" from the list of others. You might want to limit the search to files that were recently modified or created (you can create this filter by adding another criteria on "created").
When you have the final list of items you'll have to inspect each one to see what can safely be removed OR moved to a backup disk. It should be fairly obvious which documents or files are ones that you have downloaded or created. Just don't remove something that may be critical for the operation of the MacBook (if in doubt, better safe than sorry). In any case, when using find the results should be relatively safe since the find operation (i.e. spotlight) only looks in locations that are "owned" by the user (i.e. it typically won't search in areas that belong to the system).
Note that cache and temp files are generally removed automatically by a periodic task that is run either daily, weekly, or monthly by the system. Besides, these cache and temp files are typically fairly small so unless you are running very close to full on your hard drive they won't make much of a difference. You can google on "mac os x periodic" to find out more about these cache and temp files and ways to remove them on demand (in this case, make certain that you are referencing instruction that are up-to-date with your Leopard or 10.5 OS, since earlier versions of the OS used slightly different methods to automate the cleanup of the cache and temp files). There are also third-party utilities that will remove these files, but IMO you can do it yourself without much effort.

  • Weird issue when trying to use two computers on the same network.

Hi all...i just just moved house and i'm using a different connection with my time capsule.
basically i've just plugged the modem into the ethernet port on the timecapsule as usual, and now for some reason me and my partner cannot use the computers to access the net at the same time
my access will halt as soon as he starts, and the only way to gain access again is to renew the DHCP lease, which subsequently boots him off....
anyone know how to fix this?

it's a wireless modem. not like a usb stick with a 3g connection. it's called unwired here in australia....its crap, but im using it for the next few days until my cable connection is installed at the new house.
it's pretty much the same as a regular modem and has an ethernet port on it which you can either use to connect directly into your system, or plug into a router or wifi (or in my case, time capsule which i'm using as the wireless base station)
i've just done the usual thing of plugging the ethernet cable from the modem into my time capsule, and it seems to work fine as long as it's only one user on the network. but as soon as someone else jumps in, their system gets access and mine stops. the only way to get mine working again is to renew the DHCP lease in networking preferences, but that ends up booting the other person off.
i havent changed any settings at all and we never had this issue at the old house...so i'm not sure if its some configuration with the time capsule, or if it's something weird about the dodgy modem i'm using...

  • Speed Issue (when AS is used in a Cocoa app)

    Folks;
First I have posted this on the Cocoa list!
I am also posting this here because I believe the underlying issue is somewhere between Cocoa and AppleScript and I am not certain where I will find useful advice...
I have a Cocoa app that has some iPhoto integration.
Since there is no Cocoa API for iPhoto, like there is for AddressBook, the only way I know to do this is through AppleScript.
Any other ideas here would be appreciated....
    BTW: This is OS 10.4.10; Xcode 2.4.1; iPhoto 6.0.6; 2 GHz C2D
The Cocoa app has a compiled AppleScript which I call into for the various handlers with the parameters I need.
This is working well in every other case.
For the record it looks like this:
thisResult = [[[NSApp delegate] asEngine] executeAppleEvent:[ASCode callSub:@"getiPhotoImage" params:
    [NSAppleEventDescriptor descriptorWithString:path],
    nil] error:&errorDict];
However I have a case where it is taking 25 seconds to execute a single AppleScript statement!
This same statement has sub-second response when executed in the Script editor.
If I simulate the Cocoa calls with various handlers in the Script Editor everything is fine - performance is fine!
I have logging statements embedded in both Cocoa and AppleScript which have allowed me to hone in on the offending statement.
The result is perfectly repeatable. Every time it takes 25 SECONDS to execute the following:
[Cut and Paste this into a Script Editor - should work fine...(just change the myPath variable to make it work or fail]
[You can also save it as a run-only application to see the performance is that incarnation...]
    set myPath to "/Users/SOMEUSERNAME/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals/2007/Roll 1/SOMEPICTURENAME.jpg"
    tell application "iPhoto"
    try
set thisPhoto to first photo whose image path is myPath -- << THIS IS THE CULPRIT
    if thisPhoto exists then
display dialog "'" & name of thisPhoto & "' was found"
    else
display dialog "This branch will never occur"
    end if
    on error e number n
    if n = -2753 then
display dialog "Requested photo was NOT found"
    else
    display dialog "Error: " & n & " - " & e
    end if
    end try
    end tell
Could anyone shed any light on what is going on here?
Is there a hidden AppleScript feature like iTunes' 'fixed indexing' which might improve response times?
Why does it work in Script Editor or as a AS run-only application but then yield such miserable performance under Cocoa?
Thanks for any and all thoughts!
    Steve

For the record, the reported issue seems to have been solved.

  • Issue when SelectOneChoice is used with Domain data type in JDev 11.1.2.0.0

    Hi,
I am facing one issue while working with SelectOneChoice along with Custom Domain data type. Sample app to simulate the issue is available at http://www.filejumbo.com/Download/6FDF6ECF2922BD24
    Issue Details.
Base view object’s attribute is of type CustomString, for which another static VO’s attribute is attached as LOV. LOV attribute is of type String. Because of this data type mismatch between LOV VO attribute and Base VO attribute, while working in screen, initially we were facing Class cast exception.
Cannot convert <<LOV Attr. Val.>> of type class java.lang.String to class model.domain.common.CustomString This is not only for this type of SelectOneChoice but also for InputText field whose underlying VO attribute is of type CustomString (i.e. any Custom Domain type)
On raising this in Jdeveloper forum, I came to know that adding a default oracle converter against the UI Component will take care of converting to respective data type. After added the converter for InputText and SelectOneChoice components, this issue got resolved. This was our lesson while working in Jdeveloper version 11.1.1.3.0. Converter we used,
<f:converter converterId="oracle.genericDomain"/> When we try the same scenario in Jdev Version 11.1.1.4.0, without having the oracle converter itself, SelectOneChoice started working fine!! (i.e. it is able to set the base attribute with LOV attribute’s value but with proper base attribute’s domain data type). Anyhow, converter is required for InputText.
When we try the same scenario in Jdeveloper new version 11.1.2.0.0, it started giving class cast exception when we don’t have oracle converter for SelectOneChoice. But by adding it, though it didn’t give such class cast exception message, though a selection is made in SelectOneChoice, VO attribute has not been updated with the new value. Instead it is updated with null value (Checked the setter method of view row impl by having break point) . Because of this, after a selection is made, when we try to read the attribute value from VO on button click, VO attribute always returns null.
We have also tried our own converters but there is no change in the behavior.
The above misbehavior can be tested either by having SOP programmatically or by refreshing the SelectOneChoice by giving its id as Partial trigger to itself with autosubmit set to true, so that the selected value will be reset to null irrespective of the selection made.
For convenience, Issue details with Sample application is shared. Shared link : http://www.filejumbo.com/Download/6FDF6ECF2922BD24
    Shared folder contains
    1. Sample App developed on Jdev 11.1.1.4.0 to ensure it didn’t give this error.
    2. Sample App developed on Jdev 11.1.2.0.0 to simulate this error.
    3. Error details in a document.
Can anybody have a look at this and tell me why this misbehavior and is it a bug? If so, any workaround available to continue the development?
    Thanks in Advance.

Sorry for the late reply John and Frank. Ya i did. Thank you.
    One more detail:
I tested the behavior in Jdeveloper 11.1.2.0.0. The recent surprise is Select One Choice is behaving perfectly when it used in Grid layout and fail to work when it is form layout. I am getting surprised why behavior of component varies based on the way it refers the binding.
    for form layout,
    value=#{bindings.
    for grid layout,
    value=#{row.bindings.
The bug details (#/title) are Bug 12968871 - RUNTIME CONVERSION FAILURE WHEN USING CUSTOM DOMAIN OBJECT VALIDATION IN EO
