HT4796 can I cancel migration assistant once it's in progress

Question

Just recieved my new MacBook Pro and migrating from my PC is going to take 15 hours. I think because of the pictures. Can I cancel the process without losing what has already migrated and start over later?

I would go a slightly different route. If you can add a partition to the external, then I would bootably clone my Leo install to the new partition. Under the circumstances, having two backups isn't a bad idea. If you can't make a new partition, then I would clone to the external erasing the TM backup in the process. For migration purposes, I would feel much more comfortable having a clone as a backup than trusting a TM backup. If you want you can make your clone using Disk Utility (DU) and these instructions:
1. Start DU;
2. Make sure you external drive is partitioned GUID;
3. Choose Restore;
4. Drag your internal volume to the source box;
5. Drag your external partition to the destination box;
6. Choose Erase Destination; and
7. Click restore.
It will take an hour more or less. Once the clone is made, start up from it to make sure it is functional.
Before turning the old machine over to the new owner, I would reinstall Leopard using the erase and install method. Then, I would quit the installation at the point you enter Setup Assistant At this point, don't enter any information. Instead, quit setup assistant using command+q and shut down the computer. By quitting, the new owner will get the machine exactly as it would have come from the factory.
