HT4796 Should I have a status bar during migration of files?

I am using migration assistant to merge my files from my PC to a new MacBook pro. I've reached the section where it says "Transferring Your Information", but there is no movement in the status bar area (on either computer) so I'm wondering if it is working. It's been like this for several minutes. Do I start over?

I checked the status of the server and hard drive by booting off of the 10.4 installation disk, select utilities and disk utility.
I know very little about terminal, however I'm pretty good at dos so I can figure some things out if given some commands.
Anyway, I ran some commands and here are the results:

I don't have a status bar!

Somehow Oryte! and Bing got to be my browser and I didn't want that, so I asked Firefox how to get rid of it. Whatever it said to do, I did -- but I lost the Firefox status bar. I just have blank tabs without any place to enter URLs or search, without using my bookmarked Google home page. And there is no "previous/next page arrows", so I can't go back a page -- I have to close the tab, go to Google and start over! I've downloaded Firefox 5.0 setup -- but I'm so not-technical that I don't know whether I must get rid of Firefox 4.0 setup first (how?) before opening or running 5.0 (which do I choose?). JUST HELP ME CLEAR THIS MESS AND INSTALL A WORKING 5.0, PLEASE!

If the menu bar is hidden then press the F10 key or hold down the Alt key, that should make the menu bar appear.
Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"
* If items are missing then open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout"
* If a missing item is in the toolbar palette then drag it back from the Customize window on the toolbar
* If you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar set up.

Display error message in the status bar during PBO

Hi All,
I want to issue an error message on a program's selection-screen.
The thing is when I issue an error message inside PBO, all the text in the selection-screen are gone and replaced with lines.
So i displayed the error message in the status bar.
MESSAGE S074(Z4) DISPLAY LIKE 'E'.
But the problem with this is that it will allow to continue data processing.
What shall I do in order for my error message to behave as an error message and not as a status message?

What does it mean when you get an Apple and a grey status bar during start up of a MacBook Pro?

When I start up my MacBook Pro I get an Apple icon and a grey status bar. Some days the start up goes really fast and other days it takes a few minutes for the computer to start up. My laptop never used to do this. It started a month ago. Is there something I should do to resolve this? Below are my computers spec's:
OS X Yosemite V 10.10.1
MacBook Pro (15-in, 2.53GHz, Mid 2009)
Processor: 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Start up Macintosh HD

The boot progress bar with progress bar with a dark background is a new feature for Yosemite and appears for seconds before the desktop loads. It is normal that "some days it goes really fast". Yosemite is heavier than Mavericks and as a result the boot time is slightly longer. On Mavericks it was a little wheel that spun, now it is a progress bar.

What version of Pages are you running?
In Pages '09 there is a zoom control bottom left of the Pages window for Two Up.
Two Up is not available in Pages 5 as far as I know.

No Progress Bar During Wi-Fi File Transfer ?

Got my new macbook and my old mac mini sharing and tried to copy a movie from one to the other......no progress bar......looked like it was hung up so I quit....should there be a progress bar ?

..and exactly how fast should it be ? Like copying from one part of HD to another ? Or like downloading on dialup ?

I have no status bar, no menu bar, no maneuverability at all. There appears to be only the center of the webpage and I have to ctl-alt-del to close firefox. There must be a simple solution to correct this.

Problem began this am- opened firefox 4 and have lost all the manageability buttons-tabs-toolbars. It appears that all I have is the center of the page and the frames around the edge are out of sight or gone. Can't grab a corner/edge to make screen smaller or scroll up/down. Tried reloading and reinstalling FF4 but still same problem

I mucked about and solved the issue myself by uninstalling FF4 then installing FF3.16.... it still opened up wrong. I deleted something from Mozilla FF ( I had 3 sets of search engine folders) and then managed to get back online with FF instead of Chrome. Will keep your advice in mind should the problem occur again - I never run anything in full screen mode and dumb me does not even know how to do that with FF. Thanks for the answer.....

How do i have status bar and a back button for applets?

I have an applet which displays a set of panels in order. Is there any way that i can have a status bar like in an browser and a back button so that it can go back and go forward. What do i need to do? Is there any sample code to do so. I am new to java and learning.

Status-Bar -- a long thin panel with a long TextField. Perhaps use something from the BorderFactory class to seperate it from other parts of the screen...
Back Button -- Keep track of your panels in a CardLayout, for example, then use a Button with an action listener that uses the CardLayout's previous() method to move back to the last panel.

The masked fox icon is missing from my status bar. How can I get it back?

The masked fox icon needed for personas has disappeared from the left corner of the status bar. Hoe do I get it back again and why did it disappear?

if people out there has the new FF4 then you might not see the masked fox on bottom left corner. it took me a few minutes to figure it out but i found it. ok if you dont have the status bar on bottom showing 1st thing to do is:
1st--go up top click tab called VIEW
2nd-- click toolbars
3rd-- click add-on bar
then once thats done look at the bottom & u should see a black bar on bottom left. well i was stumped also when i saw this then i then looked right then i saw the fox there. but another way to find the fox (annoying way) is to go up top click tools then personas. but i like the fox & find it much easier. glad i found it again.

Time for another project has come :-).
This one was born due to BurntSushi's wingo lack of status bar. The README said that you won't need one and I said "What?!". So here it is. And I finally have a status bar with working anti-aliasing, huh. I am yet to come up with a neat way to integrate it with wingo itself (displaying workspaces, etc.), but should be doable with some bash and wingo-cmd for now.

BTW: Does anybody here know of a good way to automate testing of X apps? I mean the actual drawing part, i.e. draw something and check that it is there and is good. I'd love to have a test suite for something more than parser before I start breaking it again :-).

Run the application in Xvfb, take a screenshot and compare it with a reference rendering.
Or try half-automation with automatic test starts and manual confirmation with yes/no dialogs.

Do you have the latest update on all the apps? because there shouldn't be an icon on the notification app unless you pull down the notification bar then you will see them.

How can I make the controller automatically dissapear once the movie starts? Right now the controller appears on top of the movie, and only dissapears if you click somewhere on the page? Secondly, how can I have a status bar beneath the movie, so that a user can quickly movie around to the front or near the end of the movie? Thanks.

Dedicated streaming from a streaming media server behaves differently than pseudo streaming (aka progressive download). You can't skip through sections of video unless/until media has fully loaded into cache. If you have an exceptionally long video, you should divide into smaller chapters or segments. Chapter 1, chapter 2, etc... Then use a Flash player with Playlist capability to bring all segments into a single player.
You could do this in a Flash authoring program using action script.

Do you think it is cool to kill the status bar?

I have been a HUGE fan of Firefox and have been using it since years. The only reason why I loved using firefox was because it allowed users to have more control over their browsing. However, a few recent changes have made me believe that FF is going the IE route.
Tell me one good reason to kill the status bar! I don't see a reason why you should've killed the status bar completely. You could've allowed people to either stick on to the add-on bar or stick with the old status bar but you've completely killed it.
Status bar was one of the most important tools on my browser and allowed me to quickly use my add-ons. May I ask why are you going the IE route? Why did you remove it? Was it giving any problem?
Why don't you ask users before slaughtering the useful tools? Can't tell you how annoyed I am because I can't get access to my favorite tools now. Thank you for adding frustration to my job.

I understand people are volunteering their time to help others and appreciate that fact. However, my grudge is not with those who are helping. My grudge is with the FF team who's kicking things around for desktop users.
A simple solution would've been, remove the status bar "by default" for different user segments (desktops, tablets, mobile devices, etc) but should've allowed to add it at the user's discretion.
Removing a "good feature" completely is like depriving a big chunk of user segment from that feature. How is that justifiable? Fine, if the FF team wishes to focus on mobile users but are they fine to afford losing all the desktop users? You support this ideology? Anyone?
