HT4796 The PC never dispalys the passcode. Using a Dell 700m XP SP3

Migration assistant issue. PC never responds with passcode. Both systems on same network. MAC can see the Dell. Have firewall, antivirus and auto-update disabled on the Dell.

Vista is a step up from Win XP SP3 so it should not be a problem.
Just make sure you have all updates on your Vista computer (Start > Windows Update)
Also make sure you have your antivirus off on your PC.
Failing that as you already spent a week on this - it may be faster to transfer files manually.

I went about 20 minutes into the recovery process and got the error message, iTunes could not connect to iPod because it is locked with a passcode you must enter your passcode on iPod before it can be used with iTunes. The whole problem started with my son putting in a password that he has now forgotten. How do I get passed this?

  • HT4061 Hi, I did an IOS update last week and when the ipad rebooted it is asking me for a passcode ... i have never entered a passcode originally so dont know what passcode to input to open my ipad... it just locks me out... help what do i do ??

    I need help :-(
Did an IOS update last week and after the Ipad rebooted it said slide to unlock then asked for a passcode to be entered..... I have never set a passcode ever ??
What number do I enter to unlock the Ipad ... have tried the usual 0000 and 9999 etc but just locks me out .... HELP  !!!
Or is there a way to go back to factory settings ?? (Without losing my Apple ID etc)
    Thanks

If this was your first update to iOS 7 then you were asked to CREATE a passcode. Also there would have been a small Skip button to avoid creating the passcode. If, when you encountered that request you went ahead and entered a passcode number then you must use that number to unlock your device. Once the device is unlocked you can change or delete the passcode using the Settings app.
To completely remove the passcode lock you need to connect your iPad to the computer you normally sync with and restore the iPad. This will erase all data on the iPad so be sure your info, photos, etc. are backed up first.

  • How do I change the passcode

I would like to change the passcode used to open the computer.  How do I do this?

You have to restore the device with iTunes. There is no way to get rid of the Passcode. This explains how to do it. Even you haven't seen the red disabled screen yet, the only way to unlock the phone now is by restoring it - unless your granddaughter can remember the password.
Pay attention to the part about "if you never synced with a computer" . You may need to use that method - recovery mode - in order to restore the phone.

  • While restoring an iPad iTunes asks for the password - which does it want; iTunes password or the one used to unlock the iPad normally?

I was having issues with my iPad so decided to do a complete wipe and restore.  The wipe went fine, but when I asked iTunes to do the restore it asks, "Enter the password to unlock your iPad backup"
I tried firstly entering the password I used to lock the iPad previously.  That did not work
I then tried the iTune password.  That did not work either.
Can it be there is another password for the back up of which I am unaware?
Is there a way to unlock the backup and restore it to the iPad?  Can the password be reset somehow?
What is the point of a backup that you cannot restore?

So, why is it not the passcode used to lock the iPad?  And why is the prompt not a little more specific, "Use the unique passcode for unlocking encrypted backups" might have been more helpful.  As it was I tried, in my desperation, to use not only a) the passcode with which I locked my iPad, but also b) my Apple ID password (also, I would have thought a reasonable option), c) my usual "master/default password" and d) the PREVIOUS password for the iPad... It was having none of it.
Curiously, having rebooted iTunes it now is performing a sync with the iPad (it did not even give me the option to do a restore) and this is even more confusing since the iTune screen shows the usage (25 GB free) along the bottom to be the same as my iPad BEFORE the wipe, but the pull down graphic (under the devices pull down menu) show 100% unused...
To be honest this takes me round in a circle, since my original problem was iTunes saying I had 25Gb free, but the pull down graphic displaying almost 100% full and the system saying it could not copy to the iPad as there was only 1.87GB free...

  • HT1212 I just updated my Ipad 2 to IOS7, now it is asking me for a passcode. I never set a passcode on my Ipad, so how can I enter a passcode. I tried using the OIS7 passcode I use on my Iphone  and it did not work and now my Ipad is disabled

I just updated my Ipad 2 to IOS 7, now it is asking me for a passcode. I never set a passcode on my Ipad, so how can I enter a passcode. Earlier today I upgraded my Iphone 5 to IOS 7 and it asked me to set a passcode, which now works fine on my Phone. I  tried using the OIS7 passcode I use on my Iphone 5 and it did not work and now my Ipad is disabled. Both devices are on icloud and share the same apple id. The Ipad screen says slide to set up but then there is a prompt for passcode, not for setting up passcode

I called Apple Support and a supervisor helped resolve this for me on my iPad. I suggest calling them for help as this is obviously an issue with the iOS 7 update - she helped me without charge. I could be missing something in my upcoming description, so do not take this as complete - call them.
I had to update iTunes on my Mac Air to the latest version, and I had an iCloud backup from the day I updated to iOS7. Have iTunes open but do NOT connect your iPad yet. Shut down the iPad. Then press/hold the Home key on the iPad while you connect the USB from the iPad to the computer (an image of the USB cable appeared on the iPad). Follow the prompts in iTunes to restore and then backup using iCloud. When the iPad rebooted again to do the backup install, I got the same pass code issue and iTunes would not recognize the iPad without entering a pass code. I disconnected the iPad, turned it off, pressed the Home key while connecting the USB cable. When I did the restore and backup from iCloud the second time, it worked without the pass code issue occurring.

  • I updated my IPAD 's IOS last night ...I have NEVER used a passcode for my IPAD & it is asking for it...How am I supposed to put in the passcode that I NEVER used? now I cannot even use my IPAD...HELP!!

I updated my Ipad( ios 7.1) & now it is asking for my PASSCODE ...I NEVER used a PASSCODE ,so now I am unable to use my IPAD because I DO NOT or NEVER have used a passcode ..my IPAD is useless ..I am locked out because I have NO passcode to use!  HELP!!!

I have seen other users talk about this and make the same claim. Unfortunately, even if you didn't set a passcode, and the iPad is insisting that you did, unless you can successfully guess what the passcode is, you still have to follow these instructions and use one of the methods in here in order to restore your iPad which will then unlock it.

  • My ipad is disabled and i never connected it before to a laptop i only used wifi and everytime time i try to connect it to the laptop it tells me to put the passcode and i cant even do it

i had my ipad a while ago and the screen is damaged and i sent it to be replaced and when it got bk it gave the message ipad is disabled
when i tried to connect it to itunes it gave me a message cannot read the ipad it has to be unlocked first and its not even allowing me to do that on the ipad itself

You may need to put the iPad into recovery mode : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808 - you should then be able to reset and resync your content to it.
If you do it via a computer theat it hsan't been synced to (from here) :
If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.

  • HT4796 I´m trying to migrate from my old PC to my mac, but in the migration assistance of my PC, the legend "waiting for your mac to connect" continues ever for ever, never appears the passcode. What can I do?

I´m trying to migrate from my old PC to my mac, but in the migration assistance of my PC, the legend "waiting for your mac to connect" continues ever for ever, never appears the passcode. What can I do?

The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. This is just a small selection of what's available, you can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
Senuti Mac Only (Currently only the beta version is iPod Touch & iPhone compatible)
    PodView Mac Only
    PodWorks Mac Only
iPodDisk PPC Mac Only (experimental version available for Intel Macs)
TuneAid Mac only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac & Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    Floola Mac & Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide

  • HT1212 my iphone is locked it is asking for a passcode I have never put a passcode on thr phone I am unable to use the phone

My iphone is asking for a pass code,I never put a passcode on the phone .I am unable to use the phone,I took it to the att store where I purchased it they told me to have you reset the phone, could you do this?

No, how could we do this?  We can't do anything, other than give you advice.  This is a user-to-user technical assistance forum, not Apple Support.
Use the article you were just reading: iOS: Forgotten passcode or device disabled after entering wrong passcode
All Apple Support would be able to do is walk you through the steps.  Or, if you visit an Apple Store, they may be able to assist you.  Make an appointment online for your local Apple Store.

  • HT4061 i just downloaded the ios7 and put in a passcode; when I then tried to use the passcode it didn't work. My phone is now disabled. I never backed it up on my computer so itunes doesn't recognize it; The MEID# isnt accepted by support. Any suggestion

I just downloaded the ios7 successfully (love it) and after putting in a NEW passcode when I went back to the phone, it wouldn't take the passcode I thought I had entered. Phone is disabled, I never backed it up to my computer so it is not recognized, I can't get into it to get the serial number, and the Apple support won't accept the MEID # from the back of the phone so I can get help. Any ideas?

ME TOO.  NOW MY IPHONE 6 PLUS IS SAME LIKE YOU.
iphone is diabled- connect to iTunes because i forget passcode.
i cannot connect iTunes because it's always asking to enter passcode on iphone.
So, i cannot make restore my iphone 6+. And then, I cann't erase "device" in icloud.
My iphone is new. No icloud. didn't connect to itune backage.
That's why I try to connect iTunes but it need to enter passcode.
So, my iphone just keep "iphone is disbled-connect to iTunes".

  • HT4796 The PC never showed the passcode that was displayed on the Mac. Waited for an extremely long time and it never displayed the code on the PC.  What gives?

I installed the OS X Lion on my PC, and opened the migration assistant on my Mac.  While the passcode was displayed on the Mac, it never showed up on the PC.  The PC just kept scrolling across saying it was trying to connect.  What must I do to transfer my files from my PC to my Mac?

    Nobody knows? Not even administrators?
Please it would be really nice to have help on that to take all the benefit of the remote app.
Thank you very much in advance.

  • I no longer have the computer that I used to sync my Ipod touch.  So Itunes does nto recognize it.  My Ipod is diabled and locked so i cannot enter the passcode.

I no longer have the computer I used to sync my Ipod Touch when it was new. Now the Ipod is locked and disabled and Itunes requests me to enter the passcode which I cannot do becasue the Ipod is locked!  Any suggestions?

If you cannot connect it to the computer to which the device was last connected (or the device was never connected to a computer) you will have to use recovery mode to completely reset the device, losing all data:
iOS: Unable to update or restore - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 - recovery mode (e.g., cannot connect to computer last used to sync device, iTunes still asks for a password)

I have never had a passcode to lock  my iPad. Now that I have updated it with IOS7 it is asking for one and is locked. How do I unlock this without having to reset the whole thing through iTunes????

Unfortunately, if the iPad is insisting that you use a passcode, there is no way around it other than to restore the device using iTunes on a computer, or by erasing it in iCloud.com via Find My iPhone.
You could try resetting the iPad and cross your fingers and hope this is just a blip on the radar....hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen.
