HT4818 I need more space on the windows side of my computer.

I need more space on the windows side of my computer. Can I adjust my bootcamp settings or do I have to start over and reinstall everything to adjust the memory allocation?

You can delete the partition in Boot Camp Assistant or use Camptune to modify it

  • Bootcamp: How to transfer more memory to the windows side? i'm running low

Wondering if you anyone knows how to transfer more memory to the windows side (partition) without having to uninstall bootcamp and start over...... I am running low on memory on the windows side but don't have either of the software disks to start over.

Too many people don't allocate enough storage space (memory = RAM) and make the partition too small.
Only things you can do is backup both OS X and Windows, remove the BootCamp Partition, reformat the full drive, and restore.
WinClone will help you with Windows. http://www.twocanoes.com
SuperDuper or TimeMachine or Disk Utility Restore with OS X.

  • I am getting a warning need more space on my disk. I have checked the Console and there have been 4000 thousand messages in my system log in the last 2 days. I have emptied as many files as possible.

    Hi
I am getting a warning on opening my mac saying I need more space as my setup disk is full.  I have emptied many files as well as my Trash.  I am planning to get an external drive for my photos, but it has been suggested that I check Console and under the system log the following message (of which they say 4000 messages have been logged in 2 days) '06/06/2014 16:08:23.341 com.apple.dynamic_pager: dynamic_pager: Need more space on the disk to enable swapping'.  This is a copy of one of the items.  It is from the system log.  I really do not think I have enough files to warrant this warning, with the exception of photos.  My storage shows 143 MB free out of 120.47. Thanks for any help.

First off, no MacBook Air can run 10.3 or earlier.
Secondly, are you sure you only have 143MB of storage free?  That's seriously low.  With MacBook Airs of 120 GB hard drives, or even 140 GB which is often the case when it says out of 120, you shouldn't allow your free space to go down below 20 GB.  MB is 1024 fold less than a GB.  So if you really have 143MB free on a MacBook Air, you are long past the minimum space you should be keeping it at, and need to start clearing a lot of space now*:

I'm asking this thread be moved to the MacBook Air forum,a as we can't say for certain what you have when you post in the 10.3 or earlier forum.

  • Creating more space in the iPhone

TO update my iPhone 5S to there latest software (IOS 7.1.2), I receive a message saying that I need more space, as the software requires something like 700 megabytes. Many people seem to have a similar problem. I can easily delete some podcasts either directly on the iPhone or via unticking some podcasts within the iTunes program, before syncing the iPhone with iTunes.  However, when I look at the memory consumption within the iPhone via the iTunes program (the memory analysis at the bottom if the screen in iTunes), I can see that there is still 1.5 Gigabytes of unused memory.  So, why am I asked to delete stuff, when there is still so much memory available?

Yes, I understand it's not obvious that more than a gigabyte is needed for temporary storage.  After all, it hasn't been very long since computer disks could not hold as much as a gigabyte, and that was enough storage for the computer's operating system, software, and the user's personal files.  Storage and memory have become cheaper rapidly, and that seems to have caused an explosion in the amount of it used by our modern software.  The iPhone uses space for caching, temporary application data, etc.
    Enjoy your iPhone.

  • I have a macbook pro running 10.5.8 The drive is partitioned to run windows 7 I need to decrease the size of the Mac side and increase the size of the windows side? I cn't remember how to access the drive to reallocate the resources

    Hello,
I would like to know how to change the partitioned drive on my mac to give more resources to the windows side of the machine?
i have one other little problem, If I am running the windows side of the machine the mac book's internat speakers produce no sound, but if the content is streamed to my TV the audio id there and working right. When you look in the jack on the side of the computeryou see a red light shinig through itand the speaker icon tells me that the speaker output is at 100% even though there is no sound coming out of the internal speakers.
Thank you all in advance for sny help
    JTN

To change the partitions on your MBP, go to DISK UTILITY>PARTITION and follow the instructions.
Regarding your sound issue, the red light in the audio output port indicates that the switch is set to provide audio to earphones and the internal speakers are disconnected.  To alleviate the problem try a repeated insertion of the earphone jack.  If that does not get the internal speakers functioning, the get a cocktail stirrer or tooth pick and jiggle it inside.  If still no success, the Apple store.
    Ciao.

  • How to back up the Windows side of your Apple computer

    Hello friends,
As I get more involved in the Windows side of my Apple computer (Macbook Pro Snow Leopartd with boot camp) I am wondering what is the proper way to back up the files I have on the Windows side to an external hard drive? I can obviously easily copy my documents, pictures and videos, but what about the contents of my copy of Microsoft Outlook (all my emails and all my contacts), the copy of iTunes I have on the Windows side and the list of "favorites" that I have in my Internet Explorer (again all of these programs are on the Windows side).
Is there a way to back them up so that if my Apple computer dies, and I get a new Apple again with boot camp and Windows, I can reinstall them on to the new computer and have them functioning just like before (the way one can with programs on the Macintosh side)?
    Your help would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

Good morning folks, Twonails, ScuseMe and Hatter—
    Several questions:
Good to hear about your experiences with  Winclone,  Paragon’s HDM 2011 Suite and Acronis True Image 2011.  Would you mind telling me what it is about these programs that have made them so useful to you?  I have looked at their websites online but would love to hear it described in plain words. For example, how do these programs differ from Windows 7’s built-in Backup and Restore and Create a System Image? Do they work better with Windows mounted on Boot Camp?
ScuseMe, when one encounters a problem like you did with the audio drivers,  couldn’t you have used system restore to roll the clock back to the point before you installed the drivers? Does system restore not always fix these kind of problems?
Finally, TwoNails, can you tell me what exactly you mean by “yes several drivers had to be updated but it still booted and functioned well”? By drivers do you mean the drivers that control printers and if so, how does one know whether they need updating after you do a reinstall?
Thank you all. Your patience is appreciated.

You provided no information about your computer, your operating system, network, errors, or Windows version. But I'll take some guesses.
What did you try? What happens when you try? Any error messages? Did you download and install the Windows Support Software, or install it from your Snow Leopard Install Disk if you are using Snow Leopard? Did you look in the Windows Help menu to see how to set up wifi in Windows?

  • Can I back up the windows side of my Mac with Time Capsule too?

I use VMware to access the Windows side and have a couple of programs on it after I upgraded to Lion which does not support them. But now how to back up?

I want to restore the Windows 8 side of my partition to factory settings, but I don't want the mac side to be affected. Is there any way to do that?

As I installed WindowsXP I made a partition of 20Gb called Bootcamp. Now I need more space. My Mac says: not possible. Is there yet a possibility to increase my Windows-partition.?

You should  probably repost in the Boot Camp forum, I think you stand a better chance of getting an answer there.

  • OS X lion says that i need more space till i can download the app what should i do?

OS X Lion says that I need more space till I can download OS X Lion in the App Store, what should I do?

More hard drive space or more RAM?  Lion will need at least 10gb of free space on the hard drive and a minimum of 2gb of RAM.

  • HT4818 How do I increase my space on the Windows partition side of my Mac?

Help!  I have installed a Windows partition using Bootcamp.  I need to increase the amount of space for The Windows portion.  Right now it's 20GB.  After I've installed QB 2012 and Norton Anti Virus I am out of room!

You have to uninstall Windows. In Lion, open Boot Camp Assistant, delete the volume and create that again. Finally, install Windows

  • HT1750 i decide to upgrade to the OS X Mavericks not realizing I don't have enough hard disk space and now I cant do anything. How do I revert to the previous version to make more space on the HD?

I decided to upgrade to OS X Mavericks not realizing I don't have enough HD space. Now I cannot do anything with the upgrade. How can I revert to the previous OS X to free up more space on the HD?

You can't. It's already downloaded and filled the drive. The only option is to erase and reinstall.
You may be able to Target Disk Mode if you can connect the Mac to another with FireWire or Thunderbolt Cables (USB will not work and it cannot be connected to a windows PC)
Do you have a Time Machine Backup?
If not best option is getting it in somewhere where they can transfer the data you need off before Erase and Reinstalling OS.
Unless there is nothing on the Machine you need anymore that is, in which case you may be able to Erase in Recovery. It May not work though, if the Disk is too full.
