The best part is I already have iPages on my MacBook and iMac. That program lets me do so much, but what can it do on the iPhone, and how much space will it consume? Can documents on the iPhone be transferred to my home iMac or MB via syncing besides via Mail? I'm still contemplating iWork.com; as I still need more information before using that medium.
(Definitely not via iCloud. I had a very bad experience with my first trial at using iCloud, and will not use it again unless something can be done about the huge battery drain problem on older iPhone 4's running iOS 5. That's another issue all by itself.)

I did an iphone 4 software update. It then asked me to do a "restore" in order for me to be able to use the latest iTunes. I did a "restore" to "factory settings" (this was the only option listed) thinking I'd be able to sync later and get everything back and ended up losing all my purchased apps and iTunes. When I open iTunes, "Welcome to your new iphone" and it says I can re-do the "restore" and choose my lastest update. I assume this will give me back my apps and iTunes. When i choose to do this, it says there isn't enough space on the iPhone. How do I know how much space needs to be freed up? Thanks but I think it has something to do with the 'restore'. in the newest iTunes 11, when I click on the tab "iphone", it redirects me to the "welcome to your new iphone" page and asks about doing a 'restore'. I already did a 'restore', but it went to the original factory settings and I want to 'restore' to my lastest back up as of April 12. When I choose that option, it says my iphone doesn't have enough space. I don't know how much I need to delete in order to make it work. I've deleted lots, but it only has 4.1 GB available. I'm not sure why this isn't enough to do a 'restore'. I don't want to delete all my photos and videos, but maybe I will have to?...7.7GB is used up for that. I can't sync or do ANYTHING...

My family member's iPhone recently erased all of its contact information, with no action taken by my family member. She is trying to use the restore backup function to recover her contacts.

You need at least as much space as you have used on the iPod. Could be as much as 64 GB but is probably much less.
Find a way to delete what you do not need on the computer. Start by emptying the Recycle Bin.

ITunes won't show how much space is being taken up on my iPhone?

Hi guys, whenever I plug in my iPhone, and click on it under "Devices", at the very bottom it shows a capacity bar, where it shows you how much space is being taken up by audio, video, pictures, etc. The problem is, I don't know exactly how much space is being taken up! In the past, I could mouseover the bar and it would tell me how much space exactly is being taken up by audio, video, pictures, etc. but now it doesn't. Any way to fix this?
Also, after updating to iOS 7, I'm noticing a teal/blue-green bar in the capacity bar, but it's too small to be labeled so I don't know what it is, does anyone know what that bar represents? It's a bit annoying that iTunes took away the legend for the capacity bar, and doesn't label the smaller bars so that I don't know what they mean :\ Combine that with the fact that it also doesn't tell me how much space is being taken up by each category and it makes the whole system arbitrary.

PROBLEMS WITH HOW MUCH SPACE IS ACTUALLY BEING USED

I've just recently purchased a Toshiba Dual Core laptop (225 gigs + 3 gig memory.) It works pretty well, but I've had to reload the windows and programs again. The reason is that after reloading I have about 203 gigs of space, but then I install flash CS3 (550 mgs and photoshop 200+) After I've installed all the doc files and everything I end up with about 200 gigs of space which is great. However, I've unistalled norton and installed AVG Professional. My space amount has gone down from 200 to about 193 gigs. I don't get it; it doesn't make sense because this is isn't how much space I've actually used. I've deleted temp files and all the install files of these other programs and what's even more crazy is that when I go ahead and run scan disk to deleted unecessary files, my space goes down in size and it shows that I have even less space! Has anyone else run into this problem? Let me know, perhaps there's a solution.

I've set the shadow storage on the computers around here to 10 GB. Suit yourself.
You can save quite a bit of hard drive space by turning hibernation off. Check the size of that file. It's c:\hiberfil.sys.
And look through the stuff Disk Cleanup cites for more savings.
But if you really can't get along without more space, you should add external drives or upgrade this one.

How do I see a detailed view of what's on my hard drive and how much space it's consuming?

I have an early 2007 iMac (3GB RAM) and a 320 GB hard drive. I'm trying to clear some of the programs and files I don't need to free up space, but I'm not sure how to get a similar look at my files and how much space they take up individually (as I would with a PC). Under system info I'm able to get the high-level overview, but how do I see a detailed view that I can then edit?

Thanks for your help. I did just that and was able to get a much better view with OmniDiskSweeper. I was shocked to find that my MobileSync files were 125 GB of about 270 being used! Guess I shouldn't be surprised with 4 iPhones and 4 iPads syncing to the same iMac at one time or another -- just kind of surprised Apple/iTunes doesn't make it any clearer that this can turn into a big problem if you don't initially create the appropriate backup settings for your devices. Select the iPod shuffle in the iTunes sidebar (under DEVICES). If this is a current 4th (or 3rd) gen iPod shuffle, you should be able to see the contents of the shuffle by type, intented under the shuffle's name (still in the sidebar). Select Music or Audiobooks (not sure where those items from the library will be listed). The items will be listed to the right, for each category. Find the items, select, and delete.

NOTE: If this is an 1st or 2nd gen iPod shuffle, select the iPod shuffle in the iTunes sidebar (under DEVICES). Over to the right, go to the Contents tab, where the items are listed. Select and delete them from this list.
I find it more convenient to make a playlist in iTunes with things I want to put on the shuffle. I then set up automatic syncing (or use autofill) to have iTunes load the shuffle from that playlist, automatically.
