HT4847 If you have to manny old back ups on iCloud can u delete them with out loosing current and old things

If you I cloud memory is low can u delete all the old back ups w out loosing data

Yes you could delete backups without loosing anything on your device, but iCloud storage has nothing to do with your local device capacity. I guess that your device is just full and that you have to delete something like apps, movies etc to free up some space for other content.
iCloud uses its storage only for
Photos and videos in the Camera Roll
Device settings (for example: Phone Favorites, Wallpaper, and Mail, Contacts, Calendar accounts)
App data
Home screen and app organization
Messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS)
Ringtones
Visual Voicemails
purchases of apps, music, videos do not count against your iCloud storage capacity ( but please see also iCloud backup and restore overview http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4859).

  • If I have my photos backed up with iCloud, can I delete them off my phone and will they be saved?

If I have my photos backed up with iCloud, can I delete them off my phone and will they be saved?  We can't do the IOS 7 upgrade and notice that the photos are taking up the most memory.  If I delete these, but they are backed up on iCloud, will I lose them all if they aren't stored anywhere else?

    Hi...
If you delete the backups it will not delete any content from their device, however the data will be removed from iCloud.
It will also prevent the devices from backing up to iCloud in future, unless this is re-enabled.

  • HT201250 After Time Machine has backed up my files, can I delete my originals from my Mac and do something in Time Machine to ensure it will never automatically delete them from the backup in the future?

I'm new to using Time Machine - I'm making my first backup right now - and I have a few concerns.
So let's say my precious photos are taking up most of my Mac's hard drive space. I back them up with Time Machine on an external hard drive. After that, I want to delete my photos from my Mac because I want more space and my photos are now stored in the external hard drive. I have a few questions about that.
First, does Time Machine's backup system follow the same concept as having extra storage (so would this be a reasonable decision to make)?
Second, if it does, then could I access/open these photos from Time Machine's backup anytime I want?
Third, would I need to use the restore backup function of Time Machine every time I want to open my photos are there alternative ways of accessing my photos, like through opening directory paths to the photos?
Lastly, when the external hard drive becomes full and Time Machine wants to delete my oldest backup files, what can I do to ensure that these photos will never get deleted unless I manually do it? Like, is there a way to lock and secure these files? Or, is it like if these photos are the only copies saved in the backup, I can rest assure that Time Machine will never delete them?
    Thanks

Since my new external hard drive is have a lot of space, I'm thinking of splitting it for Time Machine and external storage.
This is a common mistake and I highly advise against it.
1: TimeMachine saves states of changes and thus requires more room on the TM drive than the boot drive it's backing up.
2: Something happens to the TM drive, loss, theft, dropped, power surge, etc., you lose both backups.
3: The storage drive might become a portable need, with it being on the TM drive, now your increasing the risk to the TM backup that something could happen to it along with the storage drive, due to increased movement.

  • HT201317 If i deleted pictures from my phone but they were backed up to icloud, can i get them back?

If I deleted pix from my iphone 4s, sent them to icloud, recovered them when I got new iphone 5s, deleted them off of 5s onto internet site, but have now lost them off of the internet site, are my pix still in the icloud?

Photo stream photos only remain in iCloud for 30 days.  If they were in the camera roll on your 4s when you last backed it up, restoring the backup would recover them.

  • Two things came with my Firefox when I downloaded it. Speed Dial and Xmarks. When I start the program it locks up and I have to just shut it down. How can I delete them? I only want the Firefox.

When I downloaded Firefox I had two things download with it. Speed Dial and Xmarks. I don't know about either and don't want them. I cannot delete them alone it seems. When it all loads it locks my computer up totally. I cannot x out of anything. Just kind of "thunks" with a dead sound. My facebook applications runs better on Firefox but I can't seem to get it downloaded alone. What am I doing wrong? I do not want the speed dial for sure. Don't know about the Xmarks.

Where did you download Firefox from?
The official Firefox download doesn't come with either of those addons.

  • My iPhone 4 has no storage left. I have deleted everything. But when I go to my storage on my camara roll it has 40.1 MB SAVED! How can I delete that with out having a computer

I don't understand why I don't have any memory but my girlfriend had a hole lote more memory. And we have the same I phones.

Songs, videos, pics take a lot of room.  In addition, a thumbnail is created for each pic and an index so the total space used is a great deal greater than just the size of the pic...400 pics will use a lot of storage space.  In addition to Usage, you can get info from Settings > General > About.

  • HT201317 Once I have loaded my photos on I cloud Can I delete them off my I Phone to fee up memory

I am new to using Icloud, once I have down loaded my photos from my Iphone to Icloud can I delete them off my Iphone to free up memory

You could but you're taking a chance on losing them if you do.  Photo stream photos only remain in iCloud for 30 days.  If you ever lose your phone, have to restore it, replace it, or turn off photo stream, you will only get back photos from the last 30 days.
To make sure your photos are safely backed up, import them to your computer while they are in the camera roll, as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.  You will get an option to delete them from your phone after importing them.

Good luck, but they will tell you the same thing that anyone here will tell you.
Unless the device was backed up (via iTunes or iCloud) after the pictures were taken but prior to deleting them on the device, they are gone.  There is no way to recover them once deleted without a backup.

  • I lost my iphone in the water I bought a new one 4S now I have 2 back ups in Icloud, the one for the new Iphne and the old Iphone where I have the most info I need. How I can download my old backup?

I lost my iphone in the water I bought a new one 4S now I have 2 back ups in Icloud, the one for the new Iphne and the old Iphone where I have the most info I need. How I can download my old backup?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
You cannot download a backup from iCloud, the only way to access it is to restore to the backup with your new phone, which you should have done when you first connected it. If you restore now, you will lose all the new information you have added to your new phone.

  • I now have an iphone4s, my old iphone4 is still listed as being backed up in may, can I delete this or will I loose data from my 4s? Thanks

I now have an iphone4s, my old iphone4 is still listed as being backed up in may, can I delete this or will I loose data from my 4s?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can delete that backup. You won't lose anything, as it's from an old iPhone and you are not taking files from that backup because your iPhone is being backed up to a different backup

  • When I go to restore my phone; is there any way to pick what you want back on your phone or do you have to get everything backed up?

When I go to restore my phone; is there any way to pick what you want back on your phone or do you have to get everything backed up?

Thank you.  I was afraid of that.  I backed up from iCloud.  I looked at the iTunes one - it had four different ones on there; was hoping I could see because my grandson's phone was redone last year (his mom messed it up then) and didn't know anything was backed up to iTunes.  He lost a lot of stuff that time. I'm just trying to get his phone back to par after someone changed his passcode on him as a joke and forgot what they changed it to a few days ago.  They should change it so one could go in and pick what they want or don't want.  Thank you again for your time.  I do appreciate it.

  • HT201250 Once I use time machine to back up my Mac Air, can I delete all my files from HD and still have access to them on TM (external hard disk)?

New to Time Machine. The HD on my Mac Air is full so I got an external HD and using TM to back up everything.
Can I erase all files (pictures, docs, etc) from my Mac and still have access to those files through Time Machine?

That is a bad idea. Time Machine is strictly a backup utility. What you describe will require archiving files, which Time Machine is not designed to accomplish.
Once you erase files from your MacBook Air, they will eventually be erased from your Time Machine backup. This is by design, as Time Machine will eventually fill your backup volume and will delete old files as required. Depending on when they were first backed up and how long they existed on your MBA before you erase them, they could disappear in as little as one hour.
Use Carbon Copy Cloner or equivalent "clone" utility and configure it to archive files that do not exist on the source, or simply copy them over manually using the Finder. You can then delete them from your MBA. Bear in mind that once you do that, you no longer have a backup copy. The only copies will exist on the external HD.
