HT4847 Which apps should I back up to iCloud?

I got a notice that I am close to my storage limit on iCloud so I an trying to clean my Storage & Backup folder out.
Are backing up apps like Pinterest, or shopping apps like Amazon or Ebay, necessary? What happens if I delete these from the Storage & Backup folder of iCloud?

Deleting them from the backup won't delete anything from your purchase history. You can always redownload your purchases using this one: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519

With the exception of photo stream, iCloud doesn't sync your apps or photos between devices. You will continue to sync this content via iTunes in the same way as you do now.
Photo stream allows you to sync your most recent photos between all devices, you have the option to use photostream or not.

Unfortuantely, you can see what's in a backup without restoring it to your device. You also can't selectively restore just certain apps. Also, your apps aren't really stored in your backup, only your app data is. When you restore the backup, the app data is restored, then the apps are redownloaded from the App store, along with your other purchased media, assuming they are still available.
What you could do is back up your iPad to your computer (connect it to your computer, open iTunes, then go to File>Devices>Back Up and File>Devices>Transfer Purchases), then erase it (Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content and Settings), restore the old backup (go through the setup screens and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup). Then you could either live with the restored backup and all it contains, or erase it again and restore the iTunes backup you made earlier (connect it, open iTunes, go to File>Devices>Restore from Backup).

Which apps should NOT be installed to the SD card on a Treo 650?

I have had the Treo only since Friday, already the device is down to about 6mb of space. I have tons of room on my SD card. Please tell me what types of programs should NOT live on the SD instead of the device.
Also, if I put in another SD card, will the missing prc's and pdb's cause my Treo to freeze or will it just tell me the programs are missing?

Any program that has to do with the system. Basically anything that supports for the phone or contacts/calendar leave on the device. Games and other apps you can put on the SD card. As for if you remove the SD card. It will not freeze. You will not have the .prc to run the program. The PDB is just a database file stands for Palm Database.

Not an app, but the iPad camera connection kit would seem like a useful idea - copy pics from camera to iPad as you go.
If you are into photography and you want to edit or adjust pics, Photogene is very good. Also, any of the apps that allow you to upload to Facebook or Flickr or SmugMug or whatever your preferred online photo site is.
If you want to take notes, Alfons Schmid's Notebooks is pretty good

How do I know app data is backed up on iCloud?

So I have my iPad (1st Generation) synced to an old computer that I don't use anymore, and would love to restore it so i can sync it to my new computer. The problem I have is losing all of the app data, in particular many games. It's running iOS 5.0.1 so it has iCloud on it, and when I pull up the 'Manage Storage' under ' Storage & Backup' in the 'iCloud' setting on iPad, it shows there was a backup of the iPad (including the apps) as well as a separate category of "Documents & Data" where it only lists "Infinity Blade 2 Save Files".
So does this mean the only app data that is backed up is for Infinity Blade 2? Whereas the apps listed under "Backups" is just the physical app itself without data? Or do most apps just disguise it with the general backup rather than differentiating it like Infinity Blade 2 does?
I'd hate to lose progress in the other games like Temple Run, Angry Birds, Cut the Rope, Fruit Ninja, etc. hahaha

Should I back up to ICLOUD

When you get your magazines on IPAD are they automatically downloaded? Why are some in newstands and others are not.
Also, I'm finding it difficult to navigate. Am i doing something wrong?

I think your title is wrong since this has nothing to do with the cloud backup.
whether or not things are automatically downloaded can vary from magazine to magazine. Some do, some don't. And there may be settings you can set for each publication.
as to why some are in newsstand and some not, newsstand is a service that iTunes provides publishers that they have to sign up for. Some do, some don't. For example, People magazine is a stand alone app and I don't think they'll go into newsstand while others have.
It's kind of like magazines selling subscriptions off their own website, and others contract out to a third party to also sell subs....some do, some don't. Or like how some airlines will sign up with Orbitz or Travelocity while others only allow reservations on their own site.
as to navigating it, I never have so I can't help you there I'm afraid.

I want to find out how and if I am able to retrieve emails of which I should have received while my iCloud storage was full.

I had to upgrade my storage for my iCloud account, and in this time between the storage being full and the upgrade, I was unable to send or receive emails.
I have been trying to find any information as to if there is such a way to now retrieve those emails.
Of course, with this happening over the silly season, I was unable to upgrade my storage straight away, therefore there are days of 'missed' emails.
I have tried accessing my iCloud account from multiple devices, and still have no luck!
If there is any suggestions and advice, I would appreciate it!!

You can backup the iPad on your computer instead of iCloud if you prefer. If you turn off iCloud backup, settings will still be synced between devices, the only difference is that the iPad won't backup on iCloud

My wife's phone was dropped down the loo just a day after returning from holiday with all our holiday snaps/vids on it. The phone is dead and only showing on iTunes as in recovery mode. No problem I replied, as it should have backed up on iCloud, however she then advised that the iCloud storage full message had been showing recently but was not sure for how long it had been there. Is there anyway to tell when the last back up occurred or do we have to wait for a new device to be be restored?

In 3 years I never synched my calendar to iCloud for fear I would lose my data. I explained all of this (and the fact that my phone had never been backed up to iCloud or iTunes to the tech at the Genius Bar (I was having wifi issues with my phone which is why I was there so I COULD START BACKING UP) and he assured me synching / merging to iCloud would not delete my calendar events: well, it did. Yes! I have spent hours with apple tech support and had my iTunes account in "troubleshoot " status so the engineers could go into iCloud to see if they could retrieve events. They found nothing. I just don't understand where it goes if it's on the phone? I know there are ways forensic engineers retrieve "lost " data on cell phones. I just thought it might be worth it to post on here and see if there is any hope .

Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can sync your music and apps from iTunes. However since you are moving from an iPod to an iPad, many of the apps will have iPad versions which you will need to redownload.
