I just get run around in circles with this article support.apple.com/kb/HT4848 regarding OSX restore. Does anyone know where I can get some good input on the use of the external Lion recovery thumb drive I got from Apple.

Im use to using CDs to recover my Mac, and peripherals. I find myself, routinely, in very remote areas sometimes (ie poor to no internet access). What Im looking for is a way to recover my Mac if somthing crashes. 2 days ago I was updating Garage Band and I couldnt log into the locked preference panel to perform an unrelated task. The weird part was that about an hour later my password was working again (yes, while still downloading GB) and I continued on but it worried me about recovery and capability when in remote conditions. Here's what Im looking for:
1. recovery CD like capability to access my Mac when things get hairy.
2. information (a good manual on that software that will help with this recovery) that I can put on my iPad/phone so I can access it when things get hairy.
3. the name of a good traveling barbar who doesnt mind going into the Congo, OutBack, war zone, or remote "ashell" site to give a haircut...when things get hairy. Sorry, I had to lighten things up a little. :-)

We maintained Data Source as SU01 in SPRO, So that User can able to access GRC Application through End User Login with ECC System login
Details for raise a request.
If user is locked or forget ECC system password, then user not able to access GRC Application through End User Login with ECC System login Details for Unlock or reset Password.
In this situation, how user can unlock or reset the Password for ECC System.
Could you please provide the solution to resolve the Issue.
Note:- No LDAP or Acitive Directory.
System Details :- GRC AC 10.0 , SP12.

Quite a few PSS solutions have this as a setup (even SCN). The key thing you are reliant on is that the email account must be restricted to only the user to receive the password/link as well as appropriate Challenge Response Questions defined as part of their registration.
But yes, they can technically enter any User id to request the password and if they know the answers to the questions then they will get the password issue.
Your alternatively is to introduce another system (i.e. AD which you ruled out) or see if there is a way to introduce a second factor authentication (I don't believe this is delivered with GRC).

Vendor mapping and password resets in EP7

Good day,
This is my first thread, so please bare with me.
I'm currently faced with a challenge regarding Vendor mappings and password resets.
We make use of EP7.0 and Netweaver 2004s for the backend. SRM version is 5.0. We map the vendors in the portal to the relevant backend systems. After setting the passwords for the vendors in the backend, we have to log in with the ID's to hard set the passwords. The vendors are set as dialog users and thus their passwords need to be reset regularly, in our case, every 30 days.
My question is this: Is there a better way of managing the vendor mappings, like for instance making them service users which removes the need to change passwords, as from what I understand, it's actually the vendor groups that are mapped to backend users and not every user that belongs to the vendor group. The users still need to log onto the portal with their passwords.
Any ideas are welcome.

If its One Portal User to One backend user, you can eliminate this need of password resetting by configuring Logon tickets.
From what I understood is it that you have many portal users all mapped to a common backend user?

-We currently have ConfigMgr 2012 R2 and want to start using Intune to support company owned iOS devices.
-We must have the ability to perform remote lock and password reset on our iOS devices.

While I am not in this position, it appears that when you are setting up Intune with ConfigMgr you get to a point of no return where you "Set the Mobile Device Management Authority" and the prompt says this is permanent. For those that
have integrated ConfigMgr, does that mean they are stuck and have no option to change to using Intune only to get these features?
I setup ADFS/WAProxy for SSO for Intune. I can still use that without ConfigMgr integration right?
On a different note, is the on-premises connector for Exchange a requirement for Intune? I have seen several tutorial for installing Intune that do not mention this step.

I guess the first question is really up to your company requirements and how long you can wait. as there are now communicated time of release of that feature it is hard to say if it is worth it.
Exchange connector in SCCM 2012, no, Exchnage on premise connector for Conditional Access in Intune, if you want to use that feature yes you need it but you can use Intune without it.
Yes, you can use ADFS/WAP for Intune standalone as well.

HP system restore and factory reset not completing

Hello.
1: Person tried a system restore to fix a user profile problem but once booted the OS changed the user profile to "temporary" every time, checked the original profile but only the avatar was left , all other personal info was gone.
      Working through "profiles list" in the registry and setting back to the original user profile from temp profile didn't work and went back to temporary.
      Complete erasure reset of all user profiles includig in the registry didn't work either. Went back to temporary profile.
      It was no use to save any files while the OS was in this stat as every reboot would remove the files including in the temp profile.
2: Tried all basic boot/DOS HP recovery for installed windows OS with no success, all system restore backups back several months failed.
3: Tried a factory reset twice and while it did restore for the most part with the automated drivers installed the HP recovery returns an error that factory reset did not or could not complete itself. This was attempted twice.
      While one could shut down the HP error screen in windows 8 and continue the failed reset booting error was still logged and it defaults to the HP receovery which ends up looping over and over again.
       while still in windows once the HP error is closed one can goto the usual user name and password so that was done twice and with the simplest password.
       Problems compounded when the OS rebooted and asked for user name and password, which returned "not valid" over and over again.   One time i entered the user "administrator" with the password "admin" and it worked, it started loading but then returned invalid username or password. Point being that that was not the actual user name and passowrd that was chosen and confirmed.
       This part of the problem is the same as the first problem
3A: I wiped the main and system partitions and reformatted them and ran then HP factory reset once again, it restored faster than the first attempt, however it dropped to the same username/password error and i can't even get into safe mode any longer.
Again the system boot sequence registeres the restore as incomplete but i can boot select OS which is how i am able to get into windows to test the User/pass.
4: I beleive that there is hardware malfunction with the hard drive controler in this system as i noticed that UEFI is intermitant no matter what settings you set in the BIOS/CMOS. When UEFI boot CD/DVD does appear in the boot selection it can't detect the cd/dvd drive or a USB drive "invalid device".
     Many of the boot options even when set in the bios will not always appear in the boot selector on every power up that includes legacy.
      While i can boot from CD/DVD with the legacy boot selection. I can't install windows 8 or 7 becasue the HD is A GPT and without UEFI i don't get advanced options in the windows OS install partition setup. Windows 7 or 8 won't install becasue the HD partition is a GPT format even after i wipe those paritions and make new ones with basic NTFS.
      I could LLF the HD and hope that i could install windows 7 but the UEFI being intermitent would probably return the same resutls as the HP factory reset.   Similar problem with older computers when enabling AHCI in windows.
     If i LLF the HD i loose the HP recovery completely.
Any suggestions?

Hello.   The laptop is an HP Pavilion dv6 notebook PC
I have since LLF'd the HD and installed windows 8.1. It's still touchy but it's working for the time being.
A: The laptop's owner did a standard windows system restore
B: I did two windows system restores as well as backups.
C: Yes i usd the F11 at boot recovery system to run windows system restores, cleanings, and finally the factory reset. Which is obvious as i stated above that if wiped both main windows partitions and it helped the factory restore speed so only restoring an image will replace the OS on the now empty partition.
D: No i didn't keep the failed restore logs as they were randomly scrambled with all the recover cycle loops (both times).
Also i should mention that the factory restore once it failed the completion i got "insufficient sapce" error as well which i am guessing that it's trying to write the log file.
If memory serves there was only 40mb left on the recovery partition. Yes MB not GB.

How can i change email address for security questions and password resets

I've noticed that my password reset requests are going to an old email acount. In fact, i am not sure where they are going.
the real issue is that i don't see a way to change it when i am logged in (it took me many tries to actually log back in) to my apple id account.
I've changed alternate email accounts, but again i don't see a way to change my destination email account for security section of the account.
Also i would rather reset these via text (ATT has this option for my cell phone account reset and i love it). I don't see an option like that from Apple at all.
Any suggestions and help will be much appreciated. Don't want to struggle with password resets every time i need to get in.

Lost password and password reset utility doesn't work.

Kind of embarassing, but a couple of days ago I decided that it would be a good idea to change my password at three in the morning. Gah!
I tried using the password reset utility, but it would simply crash upon selecting my drive. I ran it from the terminal and it says that it's getting a bus error. I tried using passwd from single user mode, but it seems as though Apple has decided that that is a bad thing. Same goes for trying to run it from the terminal on the install disc.
What do I do now? Getting my files back won't be a problem, but I won't have the equipment to do that until I go home, and there are still a couple of weeks left in the semester. Being stuck using my guest account really *****!

This will give you root access to your computer:
1) Reboot into single usermode (Hold "Cmd" + "S")
2) At the Console # type:
fsck -fy
- This should come up OK after a minute, if not run it again
3) At the Console # type:
mount -uw /
4)At the Console # type:
nicl -raw /var/db/netinfo/local.nidb -createprop /users/root authentication_authority ";basic;"
- The above should be all on 1 line (this might format it to wrap a line)
5) At the Console # type:
nicl -raw /var/db/netinfo/local.nidb -createprop /users/root passwd
- This will reset the root password
6) At the Console # type:
reboot
7) You can now login with the username root

Photocast username and password reset

My son created a photocast from his sub-account with a username and password. However, I getting a error message when I subscribe to the photocast, invalid name or password. Is there a way for him to check and reset the password on the album?

Time Capsule on an external hard drive and password reset

Folks, I have a problem, and am hoping someone samrter (yes, intentional spelling mistake) than me can help. I've used an external USB drive as my time capsule, which has worked for me without a hitch for a couple of years.
I've just recently upgraded my MBP to Mountain Lion, and had noticed that everything was VERY slow. So, as a result I decided to reinstall ML by wiping my MBP hard drive clean, and doing a fresh install, which resulted in a very responsive OS.
Now the problem: when I went to restore my MacBook Pro from my TC on my USB drive, I was prompted for a password, which I provided, and have met with no success, then I ended up trying EVERY password that I could think of, and NONE of them worked! So, my question is this: Is there a way to retrieve/reset the password on my external USB Time Capsule?

Very odd. Are you sure the drive wasn't encrypted? That's the only thing I can think of that would cause a password prompt there.

Typekit Login and password reset not working...please help?

I've been using Typekit for a few years now and have a number of website that use the library fonts. I tried to login to my account (not via my Creative Cloud account) and it didn't accept it. So, I tried to reset the password, but I didn't receive it the reset password email... so I tried it again, and again - nothing. I then logged in using my creative cloud login details and tried to sync the accounts, but it didn't recognise my Typekit login.
I don't know what else to do??
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi, I have recently upgraded my phone and my husband is now having my Blackberry. However, I can't remember my username or password to login to change the email address over. Can anyone help me. I have phoned O2 who can't help. My husband is with TMobile and they can't help either. I'm at a loss now. Is there a reset button so we can erase what data is on the phone?

Sorta, yes.
You can wipe the device of all your personal information and get it back to almost factory like settings... Options > Security > Security > Security Wipe.
If your device is locked to O2, and he is using it on Tmoible, it will need to be unlocked for use on a different carrier. See the instructions and links below.
Then, he will need the BlackBerry Data Plan on his Tmobile account and have the device PIN/IMEI registered for use on Tmobile. You must have the device PIN and IMEI released from your OS account.

To determine if your BlackBerry is already "unlocked" or not:
1. On your BlackBerry, go to Options > Advanced Options > Sim Card.
2. At that screen type MEPD (see note below) on your keyboard. A new menu will pop up.

Camera app deleted and unable to restore even using reset home screen

Somehow I deleted the camera app on the iPhone. I tried restore and tried reset home screen -- all my photos but no camera?

The iOS pre installed Camera App cannot be deleted...
Check in All Folders and on All Pages/Screens...
Check in Restrictions...
Settings > General > Restrictions
If no joy...
Settings > General > Reset > Reset Home Screen
