  • Use Mac While Mountain Lion Is Downloading?

    Hello,
Does anyone know if you can actively use your Mac while Mac OS 10.8 is downloading? More importantly, does the installer require a manual prompt before the actual installation process?
I would normally be able to leave my MacBook Pro alone while it downloaded/installed such an OS upgrade, but am in a bit of a bind with work for the next few days and bound by a much slower Internet connection, so the download process could take almost a day! It would be a pain in the a** to suddenly loose functionality at a critical time. Oh, how I miss the old days of installer discs and the ability to manage software installation more efficiently...

If you are using a slow internet connection to download Mountain Lion, best to not use your Mac at the same time to free up system resources. It's a 4.34GB file. If your download sped is approximately 15Mbps, that takes about 2 and a half hours. Anything less, then the download could time out before it's finished.
Keep in mind, if you need to repair the startup disk or reinstall the OS X, you would need to use Lion Recovery which requires broadband (high speed) access to the internet via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet connection.

  • Can I shut down while mountain lion is downloading?

I'm downloading mountain lion on my MBP (currenly have snow leopard).  I started late last night, and left up all night.  Its only about 1/8 finished looking at the loading bar.  Does anyone know if ok to sleep or shut down computer in the middle of process.  Will I loose the download if I do so, or will it pick up where it left off?

If it's just in the download phase, you can pause and resume. The best method is to open the Mac App Store and, on the Downloads page, hit the Pause button. But if you power off or put the Mac to sleep, it'll resume when you restart.
Tip: when the download finishes, go to Applications and find Install OSX Mountain Lion. Right-click, open the Resources folder, and amke a copy of InstallESD.dmg, which is the ML isntallation disk image. That way you won't have to redownoad if you have a problem

  • Dictation is not working on my mac with mountain lion

dictation is not working when i turn on the dictation and then press fn key twice in any text area the 3 lights are just blinking and it is closed...
    please help

    Quick Questions:
    Is your internal microphone working?
Are you hitting the "fn" key once after finishing dictation?
When you are finished dictating and the dictation feature closes down do you hear a single beep or two?
Also, go to System Preferences> Dictation and check if the microphone icon is illuminating in a variable fashion as you speak.
    Hope this helps!

  • Why is it that Adobe CS2 software will not work with Mac OS Mountain Lion? What do I do?

Why is it that I must pay more money to upgrade my Adobe software so that it will work with Apple Mac OS Mountain Lion. Is it that Adobe wants to wring every cent out of me in order for me to use there products? Or should I just delete the Adobe software from my system and forget about Adobe and find something else?

Waynjer61 please see the system requirements for Creative Suite 2 listed at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1195856.
The largest issue which is preventing you from utilizing Creative Suite 2 on your current computer is the switch which was made from PowerPC processors to Intel processors.  This coupled with Apple dropping Rosetta support, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosetta_(software), which previously allowed Intel processors to utilize applications coded for PowerPC processors is the main cause of Creative Suite 2 no longer functioning under newer operating systems.

  • Can i do work on my mac while it is backing up with time machine?

can i do work on my mac while it is backing up with time machine?

Doing backups should have hardly any impact on the Mac itself.. so if by work you mean typing a document or working with photos or something local it will have very little impact.. it is only internet connection that will be affected..
And incremental backups that are usually small should be over in a minute or two.. even by wireless. If your backups are huge each time.. there is something being backed up that should not be.. eg a parallels virtual disk. Or a local drop box. Where small changes internally to a file of very large size makes the TM do another whole backup.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
It looks like you haven't got them on iCloud. On your Mac, open Pages and drag the Word documents to the iCloud window

  • Can I store photos from ipad while travelling for later download to my mac desktop

can I store photos from ipad while travelling for later download to my mac desktop

If you mean by using photo stream, you can but iCloud only keeps photo stream photos for 30 days.  You will need to download them to your Mac during this 30 day window or they will no longer be available.
Or, just leave the photos in the camera roll on your iPad until you return, then import them to iPHoto on your Mac as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.

  • Can I work in Adobe Cloud while traveling without my studio computer and using another computer?

Can I work in Adobe Cloud while traveling without my studio computer and using another computer?  Can I work on everything just in the Adobe Cloud?

    Hi Legauche,
You can install and activate Creative Cloud desktop applications on two computers, regardless of operating system, for the individual associated with the Creative Cloud membership. See the product license agreements page for more information. Install the CC apps on the second machine and use the applications.

  • HT1338 Yesterday, I purchased Mountain Lion OSX and tried to download it but I don't think it worked.  How can I tell if I am using Mountain Lion and how do I get help if the download was unsuccessful?

Yesterday, I purchased Mountain Lion OSX and tried to download it but I don't think the download worked.  How can I tell if I am using Mountain Lion and how do I get help if the download was unsuccessful?

Click your Apple menu icon top left corner of your screen.
From the drop down menu click About This Mac.
If Mountain Lion is installed, it will say:  v10.8
If not, launch the App Store. From the App Store menu bar click Store > Check for Unfinished Downloads
FYI ..  for downloading Mountain Lion from the App Store, a high speed (broadband) internet connection is strongly recommended by Apple as noted here > iTUNES STORE - MAC APP STORE - TERMS AND CONDITIONS
If you need to reinstall OS X or repair the the startup disk Mountain Lion Recovery, that requires broadband access to the internet via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet connection. OS X is downloaded over the internet form Apple when OS X Recovery is used for reinstallation.

  • Can I change a purchased license of Mac OS Mountain Lion to a Mac OS Lion one?

    Hi:
I thought my iMac 5,1 was capable to run Mac OS Mountain Lion, but after purchase it on App Store it seems not to work. I can't download it and I get a message that tells it's not compatible with my iMac.
So, I suppose I have to update to Mac OS Lion, what seems to be the newest SO it can run. Is it true? Is there any way to change my unused licence of MO Mountain Lion to a Mac OS Lion one?
Thans a lot in advance for your help.

There was another user here a couple of weeks ago who was told be Apple they would not get a refund, even though they hadn't downloaded the version of OS X they paid for yet. The reasoning being that it could be used by them at some time. Or said another way, there's no way (apparently) to remove a purchased item from your App Store list.
However, your case is different. The App Store shouldn't have allowed you to purchase Mountain Lion in the first place. It's supposed to do a hardware compatibility check before you even get as far as making the actual purchase.

  • I want to assure that Xcode 4.1(Free Version) and PhoneGap(1.1.0) works fine with Mac OS x Lion. Thank you.

I want to assure that Xcode 4.1(Free Version) and PhoneGap(1.1.0) works fine with Mac OS x Lion. Thank you.

I experience the same. IMac 27', bought just 6 weeks ago (2011), then updated from SL to Lion and now the fun begins. Crashes, crashes, crashes.... Repaired volume yesterday, repaired access rights, now even in safe mode it crashes after 2-3 mins and I am in endless loop of boot-crash-boot-..., need to pull the plug.
Brand new hardware, literally unused ( some photos, nothing more), 1.700 €.... Got an iPhone, an iPad as well but I can't tell you how disappointed I am now! As someone said before, I bought an iMac to use it and not read kernel logs, repair volumes, search for help for days....
    Thoughts?

  • HT1338 is it iweb still work with mac os mountain lion?

is it iweb still work with mac os mountain lion? i want to make new web page and using mountain lion is it work under i cloud?

You will need to find another hosting service. You can publish to another service in iWeb '09 and above by choosing the FTP option in the Publish pane; in earlier versions you will need to publish to a local folder and upload using an FTP program such as Cyberduck. More details here:
