HT4858 Shared photo stream limits?

I've read that 1,000 photos is the limit to 'My Photostream'. Is there a limit to the number of total shared photos across multiple streams?
For example, can there be 1,000 photos in each of 4 shared photo streams for a total of 4,000 shared photos?

According to Apple's website (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4858?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US), you can have any number of shared streams, each with up to a thousand photos in it. The only limitation is that it will only let you share 1,000 photos per hour, and 10,000 per day. It says you can have unlimited photo sharing over time, though, which brings me to my next question;
I'm interested to know if the 30 day limits that are on the iDevice photo streams are also true for the photo streams shared through iPhoto. Am I able to share old photos (older than 30 days, up to X number of years old, even) with friends and family through iPhoto?

  • Question on Shared Photo Stream Limits

I was creating a bunch of new Shared Photo Streams on my iPhone and got a message that it "Cannot Create Photo Stream: You can only have 50 shared photo streams. Delete an existing one and try again." In checking the webpage that discusses the Photo Stream Limits (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4858), it states that you can have 100 Shared Photo Streams. Anyone have any idea why it is limiting me to 50?
    Thanks,
    Merg

Well, I got a call-back last night. Apparently, the limit was changed to be 50 Shared Photo Streams in the last few days, however, they had not updated the FAQ page. So, what was initially unlimited and then reduced to 100 is now 50.

  • HT4858 Aperture / iPhoto shared photo streams

But when I try to upload say 1500 photos to shared photostream from aperture, it just gives an error saying 1000 is max.  It doesn't upload any at all. I got the impression from this article that it would upload the first 1000 and then continue uploading as allowed but in fact it gives the error and does not upload anything.
Trying it in iPhoto it claims I have some files that are not jpeg, raw or png.  I tried smart albums but iPhoto 11 doesn't appear to have a way to filter file types.
All of this to try to make my Apple TV 3 5.1.1 screensaver show more than 200 of my 45000 photos.

Yes that may be true but it is not relevant to my stated goal.   I am acutely aware of the limitations Apple TV has on HomeShare - it seems to limit to about 200 pictures regardless of how many you share.  I understand it has hard disk limitations but it should in fact be able to stream them over the network.  It doesn't and I think that is a bug not a feature request.
However in using regular Photo Stream the ATV3 does seem to stream or at least cycle through all 1000 photos.
The shared photo stream seemed like a workaround, since I have over 45,000 photos, and my simple goal is to have them randomly displayed on my tv.   I don't need all 45000 to be there simultaneously or cumulatively: 1000 per day even is more than enough, and pushing those out of the queue for the next 1000 would be no problem in fact helpful.
It's just that the article seems to indicate that once reaching a limit iPhoto or Aperture will resume uploading once the time limit has passed.  That does not seem to be the case and so now it seems the workaround will have to involve a script perhaps though I don't know if there is a feature like that in either of the programs.
And I appreciate the reply Winston, but I would appreciate solutions rather than roadblocks from your expertise. Thanks.

  • HT4858 Is anyone else having problems with shared photo stream URLs not updating after photos are added or deleted from a shared photo stream?

I have made quite a few shared photo streams and love the idea of sharing easily with a variety of friends and family. The problem in having is that any modifications made to the shared photostream (adding/deleting pictures) are not updated in the URL I have sent to my family and friends. Is anyone else experiencing this? Does anyone have any ideas or solutions?

Disable Photo Stream in the System/iCloud preference pane
and in iPhoto's Photo Share preference pane.
Reboot and reenable both respectively. That should jump start Photo Stream on your Mac.

  • HT4858 What about shared photo streams that's not shared with anyone?

I want to use shared photo streams mainly to keep my albums online and I find it the easiest way.
The article says that the maximum amount of photo stream I can share is 100.
What if I create a photo stream and I share it with no one? Will I be able to create more than 100 photo streams if I don't share them all?
    Thanks
    Uri

It doesn't matter whether you share your shared album or not, it still counts toward the 100 limit.

  • HT4858 What about number of days. How long is a photo stored in shared photo stream? 30 days?

Also, do photos in a photo stream (shared or personal) get backed up on a pc if the icloud panel is there?

I've adapted this from a function on my blog. you will need to add set the YourTicketTable to where ever your tickets are stored.

  • Shared photo stream no longer working.  Please help

I was making shared photo streams on my MacBook Pro, iPhoto 9.5, Mavericks, no problem.  The past week, 90% of the time, it fails.  I have tried dragging photos into iCloud, and now the photos are not even accepted.  Please help.  Tons of photos to save (also save on Carbonite), but want them in iCloud to share with family.

Tons of photos -  have you perhaps exceeded one of the the limits? Then you wll have to wait a bit, see:

  • I can't add multiple photos to a shared photo stream in iPhoto.

    Hi All,
I need troubleshooting assistance! How do you add multiple photos at a time into a shared photo stream?
I've selected multiple photos but when I add them, they don't appear in the stream. However if I add them individually they do appear.  I've tried re-setting my internet, re-starting the iMac and iPhoto, I've left iPhoto on overnight in case it took a while to add them to the stream..but nothing works!  I've got a few hundred photos to add for each shared photo stream so I don't want to go individually adding them, there must be an easier way.
I'm running v10.9.4 OS on my iMac and 9.5.1 iPhoto.
For more information, when I select multiple photos and add them to the photo stream, it "looks" like these photos are dropped into the photo stream by the graphics that follow but when I open the stream they are not there!
    Thanks in advance.

Have you tried to share only a few photos at a time? When I am sharing a small number of photos all it once, it works.

  • Shared photo streams when changing devices

My daughter and I are swapping iPhone 5's (black & white).  I am curious what will happen to my photo streams and shared photo streams?  I am backing up via iCloud.  Will they be on our new devices after we restore or will we lose all of them.  Would the contents of the restore be any different if I backup/restore with iTunes?

Welcome to the Apple Community bgl.
    Photos in photo stream...
You can log into your iCloud account and enable photo stream to see your photo stream photos.
Photostream in the cloud only keeps photos from the last 30 days (subject to a 1,000 photo limit). When photostream syncs the photos to your device they will stay there (subject to a 1,000 photo limit) until deleted, which means you may well have more photos in your photostream album on your device than there are in photostream in the cloud.
The consequence of this is that if you turn photostream off and on again on your device (or enable it for the first time), it will only be populated with photos from the last 30 days, which may not be all the photos that were previously in the photostream album on that device.
    Photos in the camera roll...
If you kept a back up of your device you can use it to restore to a replacement device, this will restore all of the photos in your camera roll and isn't time limited.
Being able to back up to the cloud can be very useful, especially if you don't have access to a computer or have infrequent access to one, however unless you specifically need to use iCloud for back up, you will find backing up to iTunes significantly more convenient and possibly more reliable.

  • Shared Photo Stream not showing video on Mac

    Hi,
I can now see videos in my shared Photo Stream using IOS7 so that seems to be working fine. I can also see the video when viewing the public website for the shared Photo Stream. However, for the same shared Photo Stream I cannot see the video on my Mac using iPhoto. Is that supposed to work now too?
    Thanks,

I am not aware that video is supported - and do not find any documentation saying so - there is documentation updated on Sept 18 saying that it does not - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4486
Which photo formats does My Photo Stream support?
My Photo Stream supports JPEG, TIFF, PNG, and most RAW photo formats. My Photo Stream does not work with video.
Wherer are you seeing that it is supported?
I do see some editorial material indicating that it is and in those there is no mention o fthe Ma - only IOS 7 and Apple TV version 6
    http://teachmeios.com/apple-introduces-video-sharing-via-photo-stream-in-ios-7-a nd-apple-tv-6-0/
So I'm not sure how it is suppose tto work but for not it appears that it is not for the Mac based on the limited info I've found

  • Max # of pictures in a shared photo stream - Data usage?

Is there a limited number of pictures you can put into a shared photo stream.  I know with the regular its 1k, is that the limit for the shared ones as well.  Or can I create a photo stream with my entire photo library and have it all backed up on icloud.
Seperately how much data does shared photo streams use.  Is it essentially downloading/uploading every photo to each device even over cellular connections.  Its not a huge deal, but I'd rather not use up my data because a friend dropped 500 pictures of their dog into a shared stream.  (But I do like dogs)  Also does it take up space on your phone or is it all just held at the cloud level and you are essentially downloading it each time you look at it?

According to Apple's documentation, there's no limit (I still find that hard to accept, but they have said so).  You mention using is as a backup - NEVER rely on icloud for backing up photos, ALWAYS sync then to a computer for safekeeping and storage, as you would save photos from a camera.  Too many users have lost photos performing restores from an icloud backup.
Apple's docs indicate that shared photo streams do not count towards your icloud storage limit (also hard to believe, but there you go).  Friends cannot add photos to your stream, they can only make comments.
icloud stores the photos and downloads them individually when you tap on a thumbnail pic.  Note that you have no control over the sorted appearance of the photos.

  • Do shared photo streams have a cache limit or revolving cache?

I stopped using shared photo streams a few months ago because I noticed that the photos were stored locally on my phone and in iCloud. When I checked my storage usage in settings I noticed that 500mb+ was taken up by the shared photo stream storage. I have since started using Flickr, but miss the convenience of shared photo streams to create quick albums.
Does anyone know if there is a revolving cache that limits the data that shared photo streams store on a device? If shared photo streams start to replace its own data after 500mb I'd be happy to give up that space for convenience.
Does anyone know if there is a cache limit to shared photo streams, and if so, what that limit might be, and if it is revolving?

All photos that you want to share to a stream have to be kept on your device as well for syncing with iCloud. There are limits to how many photos you can share to the shared streams, however. See:
    iCloud: Photo Stream limits

  • Shared Photo Stream Option Missing

I just downloaded iOS6 on my iPhone 4 (not 4S).  In settings->photos & camera THERE IS NO OPTION FOR ENABLING SHARED PHOTO STREAMS.  There is only the standard option (which is "ON") for enabling "My Photo Stream".
Is this feature limited to the 4S?
Is this feature limited by location?  I AM LOCATED IN CHINA - China Unicom is my service provider (official provider and reseller of the iPhone here).
    Thanks,
    Summer

So, I got it working, but I'm not 100% sure what resolved the problem.  They key is that apparently there are updated "iCloud terms of service", and you need to read and accept those before this feature will "appear".  For some reason during the install it didn't ask me to review and accept updated iCloud terms of service.
But how to get the iCloud terms of service to show up?  I have no idea.  I can say I turned photo stream (the basic service) on / off a couple of times, and I turned my network connection on / off a couple of times.  I was just fiddling around, basically, and suddenly I saw a message saying "iCloud terms of service have changed", and then it displayed a new terms of service, and after I accepted them the option for shared photo streams appeared.
The exact same thing happened on my iPad (3rd gen), which I just updated today as well.  Weird.
Just for the record, I am now left with A DIFFERENT problem - iMessage and FaceTime will not activate.  But that's a topic for another thread, I think.

  • TS4526 Can't access shared photo stream videos on my Apple TV, ?

I have an Apple TV that is a couple of years old and can't access shared Photo Stream videos. Is this something that only the third generation Apple TV can do? I don't have any problem using an iPad 3, iPhone 5 or 5S to access these videos so I suspect it is a limitation with the older Apple TV. My cousin has a newer Apple TV and can view these videos but I can't see them.

Have your husband check to see if he can view those 9 photos in full view or the edit mode.
