Are contacts backed up from the iphone! From icloud iphone backup or icloude pc backup.
Are contacts backed up from the phone from itunes backup on to pc.
Also when backed up in either program are they synced if so which way? Basically I want to back up my contacts but not sync them as alter them on my phone.
Is there another way to do this?

Apple databases like contacts and calendars are not backed up to icloud, since the data resides in their own database on icloud. You cannot perform a backup from a pc to icloud. The only way for you to have your own backup is to sync data via icloud to the computer (you probably already do that) and then to make periodic backups of the computer to the external hard drive you may be using for backups. For example, on a mac, use Time Machine.

I just lost all contacts. I tried the backups but as soon as restore was completed, it would lose notes again. I disconnected after recover but still no notes.
Out of desperation, as I have all my passwords etc on it (yes, I know) but I trusted the iTunes backup system. I looked on the net and found a recovery company called Wondershare, Dr Phone. I tested it and there it all was, but it has now cost me $69 to purchase key number to download my info.
All contacts info and everything else is available. It saves it in a file which you open.
Now I have to type it all in again. I will keep manual backups now as well as using Dropbox from now on. Nightmare. I hope this helps you all.

IF you do find a backup that has your contacts; I'd /highly/ recommand turning off your wifi network after the restore is finished because if the issue is with your iCloud your contacts may merge back with her's.
With iCloud you DO NOT want to share the account; bad things happen Evil evil thigns...
But in all seriousness; if two devices have the same iCloud; iCloud is told to merge and sync infomation between hte two and can't tell that it doesn't belong to the same person

Hi I updated my iPhone 4 and my Mum's iPhone 4 to software version 5.0. They both use the same apple id and they are both backed up to iCloud. Once I updated my mum's phone i noticed that her contacts are now on my phone i deleted some of them but then she noticed that they had been deleted off her phone to. Your password for logging into iCloud cant be different than your password for your Apple ID if you use that Apple ID to log into iCloud, it sounds as though you are using 2 accounts.

I tried to also remove my account# from my daughter's phone so that we could get one assigned to her, but there is no edit prompt, so please tell me how to accomplish this. I really need to get my contacts back if that is possible, which I hope it is.

When you share an iCloud account any synced data such as contacts is merged. Also, any action you take on one device (such as deleting contacts) is synced to the other. (That's what iCloud does; it syncs changes across your devices so they maintain consistent data.) Unfortunately, you contacts are no longer in iCloud. Your only option is to try restoring your phone to your last backup, which may recover your contacts.
To sort out your iCloud issue, one of the phones need to be migrated to a separate account. On the phone that will be moving, go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account. (This will only delete the account from this phone, not from iCloud. The phone that will be keeping the account will not be effected by this.) When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, be sure to select Keep On My iPhone. Next, set up a new iCloud account using a different Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom). Then turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge. This will upload the data to the new account.
Finally, to un-merge the data you will then have to go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the data you don't want (i.e., deleting your daughter's data from your account, and vice versa).
Another thing to avoid is using the same ID on both phones for iMessage and FaceTime. If you do, you'll end up getting each other's text messages and FaceTime calls. If you're doing this, on one of the phones go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with a different ID (such as your iCloud ID). Do the same thing in Settings>FaceTime.

Re-enter them.
Once they have been deleted from iCloud they are gone from all devices that sync to that iCloud account.

Hi sfuentes,
You need to check iCloud to see if they are actually there. Go to iCloud.com and sign in and then look at your Contacts there to see if the old ones are still showing on iCloud.
If they are not, then you can either re-enter them while you are on iCloud.com, or you can restore your device from the backup where you saved them:

Welcome to the Apple Community.
First check that all your settings are correct, that contact syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the contacts you are adding are added to your 'iCloud' group and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud group (you can do this by checking in groups), non iCloud contacts will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your contacts are in the iCloud group, you might try unchecking contact syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling contact syncing.

Why are contacts I add on my phone not being backed up/linked to iCloud?

I need to delete a previous employer outlook email account from my phone but don't want to lose all of my contacts. I see most of my contacts show they are linked to both that outlook account and to the icloud. I am assuming if I delete the outlook account I will still have the contacts backed up to the icloud? Can someone please confirm this? Second question is that I see quite a few contacts do not show a link at all to either outlook or icloud. Will I lose those contacts? It appears those contacts were created directly on my phone itself, so why are those contacts not being backed up to the cloud? Appreciate any help you can give me so I don't lose contacts and/or have to enter them all over again (I did have my IT department give me a backup of my contacts on excel so worse care I can re-enter all of them but obviously I don't want to have to do that). Did she restore the iPhone 4 and set it up as new wtih her AppleID?
Or did she simply turn it on with your Apple ID still on it and start deleting everything?
You should have Settings > iCLoud account as your AppleID.

They might actually be the same Apple ID. When you have an email and use it to log into iCloud it will create an iCloud alias for you. I have an @live.no appleID, which also has an @iCloud.com alias that are otherwise identical.
If you log into applied.apple.com with the @gmail.com account you should see the @iCloud.com as an "alternate" email address.
You might also have created a new iCloud account/Apple ID when you used iCloud the first time. Then this @iCloud.com will not be connected to you @gmail.com address or any other mail addresses. You can then log out of that Apple ID at Settings>iCloud and log in with this @gmail.com Apple ID and sync contacts.

If your contacts is gone from iCloud.com there is only a few ways to possibly recover it.
The first things I would check is a iCloud Backup, a iTunes Backup, or a 3rd party email that may have contained the contacts. To restore from a iCloud or iTunes backup follow this link. This article explains how to restore a device from either back up.
Note if you have backed up since the contacts went missing, you will not have the contacts on the backup. Make sure you do not back up if trying to restore from a back up as this will back up the content without the contacts.
To get to the "Set up assistant" on an iOS device, you must go to Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content and Settings. Once the phone restarts, you will be at the "Set up Assistant"
Gmail emails are very commmon sources for contacts and you may have been adding them to the gmail contacts without even knowing it.

On my i-phone, my contacts are backed up on i-cloud, That seemed to have happened automatically, but I can't figure out how to set up so that my calendar, notes & mail are also backed up.

Contacts, as well as calendar, notes, mail, are NOT included in an icloud backup. They reside in their own databases on icloud.

Unfortunately there is obviously no one who could help.
I simply logged in over icloud.com and copied the contacts onto my monitor screen..... :-( Not the best idea, I know, but in fact I can look up my contacts.
