HT4859 backed up iphone to icloud, notes gone from iphone

I backed up my iphone 4s to icloud yesterday and now all the notes I had on my iphone are not there anymore.  They show up in my mail but not on my phone. Why did this happen, how can I keep it from happenining, and how can I restore my notes to my iphone?

Welcome to the Apple Community.
If you stop your back up, it will leave an incomplete back up in your iCloud storage allocation which you would need to remove from settings > iCloud > storage & back up > manage. It will not however affect anything on your phone.
The first back up to iCloud may take some considerable time. Just how long isn't really possible to say without knowing how much is in your back up and your connection speed.
What many people don't realise is that upload speeds are often significantly less than download speeds, so for example a user may have a download speed of 40 Mbps, but only 1 Mbps for uploading. As a rough guide it will take around 2 ¼ hours to upload 1 GB of data at 1 Mbps.
Being able to back up to the cloud can be very useful, especially if you don't have access to a computer or have infrequent access to one, however unless you specifically need to use iCloud for back up, you will find backing up to iTunes significantly more convenient and possibly more reliable.

  • All iCloud data gone from phone?

My phone is connected to my iCloud account (I double checked in settings) yet all my iCloud data is gone.  My notes are all deleted, all my calendar events are gone, and I am unable to add new calendar events.  I have important events stored on there that I need access to.
Also, i'm assuming this is connected to the issue, the calendar app on my macbook won't even open.  I click on it and nothing happens.  Notes seems to be working fine thoguh on my computer.
Any ideas how to fix this?

On the iPhone tap Settings > iCloud. Make sure all your settings are switched ON.
On your Mac open System Preferences > iCloud. Deselect the box next to Calendars then reselect it.
Give iCloud a few minutes to re sync the data.

  • ICloud not refreshing from iOS device

My iPhone 4S has 425 Contacts but my iCloud/iPad contacts have 350 Contacts (with the same iCloud id and iCloud turned on my devices). I have run the steps to toggle Contacts on/off on iPhone, Keep Contacts on iPhone, Merge, and Back-up to Storage.  It seems to function properly from my iPhone; however, I do not see the update either in iCloud or my iPad.  iCloud servers are displayed as functioning properly. It just does not want to sync.  Please advise.

    What sort of pictures?
Note that only pictures taken by the camera (or saved) go to Photostream and they are only sent to Photostream when the camera App goes inactive.

  • Why is iCloud not controllable from a single piece of software?

The basic concept of "CLOUD" computing is enticing, instant on the fly updates of critical information, but it is a security and privacy nightmare in reality.
Why is there no single controlling software application to configure the integration of the multiple venues which make up the "system or network?" Receiving data instantly is great especially if it arrives in multiple places at one time. BUT, when an inadvertent action on one of the venues deletes important legal, medical or financial documents, we are all vulnerable to costly data loss.
Unfortunately, most discussions center on the minutia of how to log on; preserving well used email addresses that people know you by; trying to find out why mail sent from your mac and the web based iCloud Mail have different email addresses, usually your old trustworthy address, while your iPhone email address is different and has been arrogantly, and automatically changed by Apple to a DOTme.com address; syncing data without losing it all or among other problems, how to control the entire mess with iTunes or your iPhone which has two preference panels that deal with iCloud interaction, or your iPad, or your Mail Application on your actual MAC, or the System Control Panels.
Even worse, although one very easy solution to at least the loss of mail data is to use a computer residing software client to fetch email and redistribute it to Apple's Mail Application on your main computer, they will not accept responsibility for not allowing those third party "gate-keeper applications" from accessing iCloud IMAP servers.
However, they claim that everyone is happy with "CLOUD" computing, and that it is a standard protocol accepted across the computing world, and that all IMAP servers work the same way using the same protocol. Why then, although third party applications like Thunderbird, SeaMonkey, the old and trustworthy Spamfire, among many others can access almost all non-Apple IMAP servers, can they not access Apple's iCloud IMAP servers?
Why, after meticulously creating multiple calendars on my MacBookPro do all of these calendars that previously resided safely on my hard drive disappear from my local drive and my control to be recreated on iCloud?
Why can't our main computer of choice be the deciding and controlling device in this mishmash? Why can't the data residing on our iPhone or iPad be controlled independently?
Why will Apple not provide a clear, single, non-conflicting piece of controlling software that protects our data once it gets to our main computing device, iPad or iPhone, that provides all the data protection of physical residence on a secure hard drive or the memory device in the iPhone or iPad once the data arrives?
Why don't we have control of our own information, or the ability to configure what we have purchased to fit the security and data protection priorities that we need to have? We should be able to decide how automated "CLOUD" computing should be individually based on our individual needs and requirements.
We should be able to designate that once data generated on either a CPU, iPhone, iPad or any other hardware device is created, it is protected from the dangerous volatility of "CLOUD" computing, and we should have the option to keep all received data on all hardware devices until we individually make an active decision to delete that data on individual devices.
Consider these issues VERY CAREFULLY, especially if you work in the legal, medical or financial sectors. Apple needs to decide if it really desires to be in the ENTERPRISE MARKETPLACE. Most Macintosh users and Apple supporters have advocated for Apple and the Macintosh platform from the beginning, and have desired widespread acceptance in all areas of computing, but to me the decisions surrounding the deployment of iCloud and Apple's version of "CLOUD" computing seem at odds with that goal.
Please contribute your opinions on this very important issue.

Consider these issues VERY CAREFULLY, especially if you work in the legal, medical or financial sectors.
Hm.. German companies, lawyers, doctors, government offices and all such are not allowed to store client data or confidental items on the "cloud" at all if the connected servers are outside of german / european law. They are especially forbidden to store such data to 3rd party companies that have no legal rules or definition of who can see, open, copy, move or even delete the files content.
As Apple has never published a document that deals with such privacy, security and other issues, no german company, likely also no other european countrie's company is  allowed to use "icloud" for client data or sensitive information. If such data resides on iDevices , Macs or PCs that run Apple software - I do not want to be in the Administrators shoes.
If a company does that -- against all laws -- and a client/customer/citizen gets to know about that, there are fines to pay  that could easily bancrupt a small company  within its first case on court.  I have the individual rules and laws not at hand or in mind, but they exist, I know.
I thought in other countries there were similar restrictions that beware ordinary people from the mistakes that other people might do to their data. icloud is a personal home user's playground as I have understood so far, - not aimed and not suitable to enterprise computing, at least not in the broken state as of now. But no man on earth is safe from idiotic decisions a "Fanboi" might make - if fate has it so that this guy is your lawyer or doctor or whoever has your data on the Desk..
Heavy Stuff. But worthwile to think at least a bit about the issues that come to mind.

  • How do I get back my pictures back after synced and was not backed up? Also were not taken from this phone.

I currently just synced my photos from my computer to my phone and didn't back up or import them.

What pictures did it delete, ones that were already on your phone? Syncing photos from the computer to the iPhone should not delete any photos at all, unless you had pictures synced to the phone that were synced from another computer, not the one you are currently syncing with. Either way, they are not contained in the iPhone backup anyway, they are assumed to be on the computer. Is this what occurred?

  • My iCloud information gone from Mail...

Hi all! This all started when I had an error message from Carbon Copy Cloner that my backup hadn't worked so I went into the application and set it all up (again) and set up the schedule I wanted. I also indicated that I wanted to get an email if errors occurred... This is where my issue began.
In the past, over the course of a couple of years, when I selected this option in CCC the only email address I was able to choose was my Comcast email address which wasn't a huge deal so I just used that one. Today when I set up the schedule in CCC I saw that my iCloud email address was listed. Great, I thought. Well, when I selected that option I noticed that the smtp was comcast.net and my user name was for my Comcast account and not for my iCloud account-it should have been the Mac smtp not Comcast and the user name should have been different. So I went into Mail and looked at my Preferences. Sure enough I have 2 accounts in Mail-one iCloud and one Comcast. The iCloud one has Comcast as my Outgoing Mail Server and the TLS Certificate is None. If I go to the Advanced tab my Authentication is set as Apple Token. So it's set up all wrong! I can change it but why did it change???? I certainly didn't change it. AND I am getting mail in my iCloud account just fine. At least I think so.
The only thing that I changed lately is that in my Contact app I had a duplication of all my contacts and went into Preferences and noticed I had 2 iCloud accounts. I disabled one. Now I only have each contact listed once. Is that what messed up the setup in Mail?
I am running Mavericks, latest update. I am puzzled and perplexed. I appreciate any help I can get with this. Thank you so much, Judy

Hi, if you change the sound in Mail>Preferences, does the new sound work for awhile?

  • 10.6.7 Mail - Notes gone from sidebar - Where did they go?

I just installed 10.6.7 - Went to check my email and noticed that the Notes section in Mail.app is gone. I can still create a note, but they are only visible if I enable-show notes in Inbox. What's up with that?

  • Icloud folders gone from mail after upgrade to Mavericks

Before upgrading to Mavericks, I had an Icloud folders displayes in the mailboxes setion of mail.   After upgrading, they are no longer there.
    Any ideas?

Same thing for me too.  Late 2012 13" MBP Retina.  I have to unplug the Thunderbolt cable and plug it back in.
This has only started for me in the last two days.  The first two weeks of Mavericks was ok.
Update:  I just got back from a trip.  I was using the laptop separate from the Thunderbolt display.  I hadn't restarted since I returned and connected the monitor.  I've just rebooted, and put the computer to sleep.  After resuming from sleep, the display is ok.  Maybe try rebooting?  I'll update if it continues.

  • Iphone 3gs and icloud lost 2/3 of my contacts for no reason, backed itself up on icloud, now they are gone.

    1) I have 3 iphone 3gs phones (2 16gb and 1 8gb) all updated to iOS 5.0.1.
    2) I added the 8Gb device to my itunes account and icloud this weekend and then I decided to make another itunes account for that phone and seperate it from the other 2 phones as it is used by another family member who does not need to be connected through icloud to the other 2 phones.
    3) When I did this it changed my old itunes account email address to a non-existent email address that was a strange combination of the two email addresses for which I have appleIDs with.
    4) I went back to itunes and fixed the appleId email address back to the correct address.
    5) Following this ordeal, 2/3 of the contacts vanished from my icloud account and phones. Never to be seen again since icloud does not back-up any contacts but mirrors them.
Therefore, since it backed-up to icloud prior to discovering the problem, I will need to manually recover over 100 contacts. If you need to restore from the iCloud back-up, how do you do it? You can set what you want to back-up and you can delete the back-up but you can not restore from the back-up in any obvious or easy way??? If it simply mirrors this information, then quit calling it a back-up... not true!  It would have changed how I set-up my phone in itunes... also, why would any contacts just disappear without notice or anything? Just vanished?  I assume when it backed-up to iCloud but it happened on the 2 phones connected to the same iCloud account, because they are synced with iCloud.  So I can sync to iCloud and back-up to my computer but then I have to deal with duplicated data on the phones which have limitted memory.
Another issue, a single instance of online support from apple is $29? Enough never to use apple product again.  They change the OS so often they should always carry free online support for these changes that are not associated with the purchase date of the phone.  Ridiculous! and discouraging... I found the same thing from HP support... If you can't put out a product that works longer than 1 year, then I won't buy your products anymore.  Apple has 90 days of complimentary support on products and a 1 year waranty? in this economy that is irresponsible and they have poor engineering if your dependable lifecycle is 1 year.  That's all they can guarantee? Based on the average american's income, they expect you to spend a large percentage of this on this kind of technology every year? Figure it out Apple.
Can anyone guide me through the propper way to use this crap without losing data.  I have not quite coped with the fact I have lost all of that data.  Horrible.
Thanks Apple for making my life more difficult

  • ICloud gone from Internet Accounts... stuck!

iCloud has got me by the neck. I have been ignoring warning signs for months, pretending that my three Macs, plus an iPad, were properly syncing — but I was disregarding the appearance of unwarranted duplicate entries in my Mac Contacts app (for example). And I knew that mail deleted from my iPad Mail app was not being deleted (synced) with my Mac Mail inbox.
But the real cockup came when I changed my iCloud password (from my iPad), and suddenly my Mac lost access to its iCloud mailbox. From my Mac’s System Preferences > iCloud, I tried to sign in with my new password, but that failed, with the advice: “[email protected] is already signed in to iCloud. To use this Apple ID as your primary iCloud account, delete it from Internet Accounts and sign in again.”
So, from my Mac’s System Preferences > Internet Accounts pane, I selected iCloud  (on the right side, not the left), and clicked the minus ( - ) button, to delete it. This removed iCloud from the list of accounts on the left.
Then, selecting iCloud on the right, a “Sign in” window appeared, asking for my Apple ID and password “to set up iCloud on this computer.” Entering this data, a new window appeared, advising me, “Already signed in as [email protected] This iCloud account already exists.”
And that is as far as I can get.
    • iCloud is gone from the Internet Accounts pane;
    • I am being told that I am already signed in;
    • Mac Mail no longer retrieves Incoming email;
    • My Apple ID and password do not give me access to iCloud.
    I’m stuck. Any ideas?

After Restarting my Mac, I entered my Apple ID and (new) password in the iCloud section of System Preferences. This brought up the Internet Accounts section, where I was able to select the iCloud option, and enter my Apple ID and PW a second time.
My first (and current) Apple ID was (and remains) [email protected] — although it appears in Mail > Preferences > Account Information with the Alias [email protected] (and indicates, in greyed type, that the Email Address for this account is [email protected]
I do have 2 or 3 other (older) Macs, plus an iPad, which are registered with my original Apple ID: [email protected]
I do not have any other iCloud account. Just the one, with two versions of the same default email address.

Yes - I connected my phone to my computer / Itunes and went into the apps section, but from there I have no idea how to manage the push notifications.  I even tryied going into itunes that is installed on my phone.  I still cannot find anyplace to manage these popups.  I have also gone into settings - notifiations - and tried turning all notifications for these apps all off but that didnt work either.  Any guidance is MUCH appreciated - Im not sure where to go from here.

  • If my most recent back up was using icloud, how can i restore my iphone to its previous back up, not the icloud one?

I recently got a new iphone from the apple store and i forgot to back up before getting one, so i backed up on the icloud for the first time, i had alot of photos ect so i chose to not back them up to save time when i was with my genius guy. But now all my photos are gone, obviously. But im just wondering if i could restore my iphone to the previous back up i had on my mac. Is this possible? I just want my photo stream back !
    Thanks

If you are in the US then you should be able to download some or all of your films : re-downloading. If you are not in the US then have you not got them on your computer's iTunes and/or on a backup ?

  • HT204150 I linked my outlook express with icloud, not realizing it would change my outlook express contacts.  I deleted email addresses from my iphone which in turn deleted them from my PC.  Is there any way to get these addresses back?

I linked my outlook express with icloud, not realizing it would change my outlook express contacts.  I deleted email addresses from my iphone, not wanting them there which in turn deleted them from my PC.  Is there any way to get these addresses back? Seems I no longer have an outlook contacts list.

It's Outlook, not Outlook Express (different program) and if you have now deleted them from iCloud and do not have a backup they are gone.
