  • I had to restore my iphone 5 from an icloud backup; how can i get all my imessages back on my phone? why isnt it syncing from icloud?

I had to restore my iphone 5 from an icloud backup from a week ago. everything restored fine, but it only brought back my imessages up to the backup date (a week ago); but all the messages up to today are on my mac messages app on my macbook air; how can i get them all back on my phone? why isnt it syncing from icloud automatically if its still available on my mac? Thanks for any help!

iCloud doesn't sync iMessages.  They are sent from the iMessage server to your devices, not synced between devices.  I don't think you'll be able to get these messages back on your phone, but you should be receiving any new messages.

  • HT4859 how do I restore deleted text messages from an iCloud backup?

I mistakenly deleted an important text conversation - swiping and deleting the wrong conversation.   My iphone is backed up to icloud, but not on my conputer.  Are there steps I can take to restore the deleted text messages from the icloud backup?  If so what are they and where will I find the restored messages after the process?   Any help would be very much appreciated.

Hi again - thank you very much for the feedback.  It is actually a conversation over 3 days that is quite important so if I can recover it, I would like to.
As for the actual process, the most recent back up was prior to my deletion.   Three last questions (I hope...):
    1) How will I know what I need to redownload from itunes?
    2) Is this link the best in terms of the literal steps to take to do the restore:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4859?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
    3) Is there anything I should do to the phone before I begin the restore process?
Again, thank you for your time - very much appreciate the expert advice.

  • Can I Restore Notes only from an iTunes backup to an iPad,or is a full restore required?

Is it possible to only restore Notes to an iPad from an iTunes backup or is a full restore the only option?

Only a full restore is possible.
However, there are some computer applications which can extract information from a backup file.

  • I need help. Recently I purchased the iPhone 5C. I restored my new phone from my icloud backup. However, my pictures did not restore. I do not understand what is going on but I would really love to get my pictures back as soon as possible. Help. Please?

I really need the help. Thanks.

If you are upgrading from and old phone and still have the old phone, the easiest thing to do would be to import the photos from your old phone to your computer, as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.
If not, and all you have is the backup, about all you can do is try restoring the backup again, or try restoring an earlier backup of your old phone if one is listed.  If you have to restore the same backup, be sure your phone is near your wifi router and connected to your charger so there won't be any interruption in the wifi signal.  You might also want to try the approach posted by ezjules here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19518589#19518589.  This basically involves opening the camera roll on your phone after the phone restarts during the restore process and leaving it that way until the restore is done.  This seems to have worked for some people.

  • How can I restore a document/file to my iPad from the iCloud backup without restoring the whole device from the iCloud backup?

My iPad has a number of documents, including pdf, xls, doc, ppt files.  Some are associated with Documents to Go - Premium, which froze on the device attempting to download an update and had to be deleted (which also deleted the files that only were on the iPad and associated witht the app).  How do I restore only that app and/or the related files from the iCloud.  Ans I've found so far were not clear/specific enough or seemed to indicate the entire iPad had to be restored.  iOS 5.1.1

  • Help restore iphone photos (only) from last itunes backup.

    Hi Guys,
had a look through the older threads but unable to find the right answer which applies in my case.
    1) Over 2 months ago I have performed a full backup of my iphone 4s using iTunes 10 (photos included)
    2) My phone now has 2000 photos on it, but I want the other 1000 or so photos from the old backup.
    3) I don't want to restore my phone to be what it was 2 months ago. I'd like only the 1000 photos to come accross to my phone, so in total i have all 3000 photos on the phone.
Can it be done by a novice? Any step by step instructions which someone can provide to me?
    TnX

I have been experiencing problems with My Photo Stream as well. What I ultimately did was create a NEW photo stream by doing the following:
    1. Select a picture from iPad/iPhone and click the "Share" button.
    2. Select Photo Stream.
    3. Select New Photo Stream.
    4. Give your New Photo Stream a name (I called mine "Missing Photos").
    5. Tap "Next".
    6. Add any comments (optional) and then tap "Post".
After Step 6... PRESTO! I could see this new stream on both my iPhone 5 and iPad. Only problem is now I have the luxury to skim through my photos and see which photos are on iPad but not iPhone and vice versa.
However, days later, I happened to know a software named iPhone Data Recovery, which is enable to recover deleted photos from iPhone for us. It really works. If you find the above steps a little confused, you can have a try of it.

  • My ipad is not moving from the icloud backup

My ipad is stuck with the icloud backup on the screen and pressing the ignore or the setting key it is still not moving. Any help

    Hi..
After inserting my credentials, the new icon of my new app appears on the screen. On this moment an error appears, in dutch "Verbinding met iTunes store mislukt" meaning, "Connection with iTunes store failed"
Be aware, your credit or debit card credentials must be associated with the same country where you reside.
"Although you can browse the iTunes Store in any country without being signed in, you can only purchase content from the iTunes Store for your own country. This is enforced via the billing address associated with your credit card or other payment method that you use with the iTunes Store, rather than your actual geographic location."

  • Help! Can I restore pictures ONLY from an iCloud backup?

I had to do total reset / restore on my daughters iphone 4 due to something bogging it down. I backed up to iTunes and to iCloud. The phone works great, like brand new now that it's without all the apps and other garbage she had on there. I would like to only restore her pictures (I've already restored the contacts somehow) I do not want to restore all the previous settings and taking the chance of bogging the phone down again. Is there any way to restore JUST the pictures back to her iphone from either iTunes or iCloud?

No, when you restore from a back up it will bring the information in that back up onto your device.  There is no picking and choosing unless you manually move information onto your device.
Is what I would recommend doing is to restore from the back up, import the pictures/videos onto a computer, then restore the device and set up as new then move the pics back onto the phone.
The reason the contacts are back is because Contacts, calendars, bookmarks, notess and some other stuff are not stored within the back up.  For instance, I could hand you a brand new phone with nothing on it and you could sign into Settings > iCloud on your device and it would automatically bring that information onto your device.

  • How do I restore my deleted contacts from my iCloud backup?

I recently installed iOS 5.0.1 on my iPhone 4 and my wife's iPhone 4. When our contact list merged, I deleted the ones on my phone that I didn't want (all of hers). I didn't realize it was deleting them from her phone as well. We tried restoring both phones from backups created the day before but the deleted contacts did not return. My phone is backed up through iCloud and hers is backed up to our computer.

you dont. its all or nothing

  • HT1766 How can I restore my notes from my icloud backup?

How can I restore notes on iPhone from my icloud backup?

Restore the backup.  Backups are all or nothing.
If notes were synced to iCloud, simply sync them.

  • My ipod touch's PhotoStream photos not retained after an icloud backup restore??? HELPP !!

So just yesterday I reset my ipod touch 4g into factory settings by deleting all the content on it just because I had encountered some technical issues before that, but then after I had activated my ipod touch again and initiated a restore from an icloud backup, I noticed that the photostream feature was on but WITHOUT its previous contents that were there when I made the backup on icloud ! so why is this ?!! im confused ... only my cameraroll content was restored. Photostream feature was there but the window just says "NO PHOTOS". how can this even be?! i mean, it was with its content when i made the backup on icloud ! -_- and more interestingly, on my iphone 5(my other idevice), photostream can be found with all its content, but on my ipod touch 4g , the photostream has lost all its content after the factory reset cuz apparently icloud can't back up photostream content. SO plz suggest me what i should do to sort this out and recover my photostream content on my ipod touch 4g.. and TELL me how photostream all works.. THNX

    This is the iPhone forum
That said... PhotoStream is a stream of photos. The contents of the PhotoStream are not part of the backup. PhotoStream will hold the last 30 days of photos on-line. After 30 days, the photos are deleted from the servers. If they have already been downloaded from the cloud and appear on a device, they will remain there. However... if the device is wiped, restored, etc. or PhotoStream on the device is turned off then back on, ONLY the photos still resident in the cloud will download.
If the photos were over 30 days old, they are no longer in the cloud. If you didn't have them backed up elsewhere, they are gone.

    Hi ldyazch,
You will need to set it up as a new phone, not from a backup, first. Then, after setup is complete, go to Settings > General > Software Update. Make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi and have at least 50% battery power. After then update downloads and installs, you can go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.
This will let you go through the setup again, and this time you can choose your backup.

  • My photos are not restoring from my iCloud Backup !, My photos are not restoring from the iCloud Backup! What should I do to make it alright ? Please help !

How can I restore the photos which I restored in my iCloud Backup ?
Does not restore ! Just remaims idle !
    Pls help !

I fixed this issue after a lot of time and pain (see below)
Seems to have come up on various threads so it seems to be an issue and should be escalated by Apple. They were none the wiser at the genius bar apart from telling me the iCloud backup is probably corrupted and I should call Apple care (as if that is going to do anything)

I experienced the same problem with the iCloud restore not working properly. I had my iPhone 4 replaced as the home button was defective. When attempting to restore an 9.5GB iCloud backup from the day before it just would not work properly. Firstly, half my apps did not restore, they would begin to download showing the progress indicator then just disappear, leaving my home screen naked. No big deal as apps can be downloaded again.
However, what was a big deal for me was the 1,625 photos on my camera roll, including many of the first year of my kid's life. The camera roll would say downloading x of 1,625 photos, download a few of them, then simply stop downloading any new shots. When I would restart the phone it did not show any downloading message, it believed the restore was complete. I tried about ten different restore scenarios, listed below, all of which gave me varying results (some resulting in all my apps restoring) but all of which would only give me some of my photos back.
What was a comfort was that I once got about 700 of the shots back. So the photos were still in the cloud rather than gone and this indicated that it was the restore process or the iCloud backup on my phone that was the problem. These are the things I tried in sequence as I despairingly tried to get my photos back...
Things I tried that DID NOT work
    1) Erase all settings and attempt to restore again from scratch (four times)
    2) Tried the restore from a different WiFi network (once)
    3) Tried the restore from one WiFi network then switched to another once the restore 'hung' (once)
    4) Tried the restore from an Apple store WiFi network (once)
    5) Tried the restore from a previous iCloud backup (twice)
    6) Had Apple replace the iPhone 4 (once)
With all of these I got a varying amount of my photos and apps back before it stopped restoring. I was also making the mistake (I learnt afterwards) of opening and moving between apps during the download to check progress.
Thing I tried that DID work
    1) Did not plug the phone into my MacBook, I used the wall charger only to prevent any iTunes sync activity
    2) Erase all settings and data, restore from the iCloud backup and input passwords in all the pop up windows once it reboots.
    2) Open photos app gallery to see photos downloading and show the progress message "downloading xx of x,xxx"
    3) Left it on this photo screen and did not touch the phone at all for the entire restore. I did not close the photo galley/camera roll app once, open any other apps.
Finally this time round it work and all my photos and apps restored in full. I am going to go back to syncing with iTunes as I don't trust iCloud for restores. It seems that iCloud does not handle photo restores that well, especially if the gallery is large. In short: Wall charger only, restore from iCloud, open Photos app, don't touch. Really hope this works for you too if you've had the same issue.
