HT4859 How do I restore my new phone from my old phones icloud backup?

I have a new iphone 5 and I am trying to restore my old iphone storage from my Iphone 4 I backed it up yesterday. I only will restore from itunes on a previous year old computer backup. Help please...

To restore from an iCloud backup you have to first erase the phone.  Go to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content and Settings, then go through the setup screens on the phone and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud backup and follow the prompts.  Be sure your phone is connected to wifi and your charger as this will take some time to finish.

  • I recently received my new iPhone 4 from my carrier since my old one was stolen. I restored my new iPhone from my old iPhones iCloud back up but now all the pictures that were stored in my old phone are blurry in my new phone. Please help!

Luckily, using the "Find My iPhone" app, I was able to scare the thieves into bringing my iPhone back to the place they stole it from (Dave and Busters..on my BIRTHDAY OF ALL DAYS). So now, $169 later (deductible for replacement iPhone), I have both my 1st iPhone and my replacement. On my first iPhone, I have all of my pictures saved and they are very clear, but when I restored my replacement iPhone from my original iPhones iCloud backup, all the pictures that I took in my original iPhone are blurry! I thought about backing up my original iPhone through iTunes and then resetting my replacement iPhone and restoring it from my original iPhones settings but I dont want to lose all of my new pictures I took. I know this sounds confusing (well, it looks confusing, since you cant actually hear me) but I could use all the help I can get!

No such thing has occurred.  iPhones do not backup to one another.
It is not possible to backup a different iPhone from the one being updated.
If the iPhone was restored with a backup from a different device, restore it again from the correct backup.

Pay attention when restoring the iPhone and select the correct backup to restore from.

  • How do I restore the back up from my old iPhone 5 which is IOS 8.1.3 to my new iPhone 6 which is IOS 8? It's not coming up as an available back up restore option?

How do I restore the back up from my old iPhone 5 which is IOS 8.1.3 to my new iPhone 6 which is IOS 8? It's not coming up as an available back up restore option? Am I able to set up as a new iPhone and then update the new phone to IOS 8.1.3 and then restore from my old iPhone 5 back up at that stage?

Setup your new phone, then update to iOS 8.1.3. Once done: Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings". At the setup screen you'll now be able to select your old phone's backup.

  • How can I restore a single image from an aperture time machine backup, do I have to restore the entire library? that does not make sense

I hope there has been found a more efficiant solution for this,  how can I restore a single image from an aperture time machine backup, I really hope I don't have to restore the entire library? that does not make sense
    any suggestions?

Did you try browsing your backups in the Finder ?  That is, do not go and "Enter Time Machine".  Instead, navigate to your Time Machine backup via Finder and then manually go to the time period (by folder name) you are looking for ... when you find your Aperture library you can then "Show Package Contents" and find the Master you are looking for.

  • Ive got a new iphone, backed up the old phone now when i go to restore the new one from the old it wants a backup password - i dont know it

im trying to restore my new phone from the old phone backup but it asks for a backup password - ive tried everything but no luck with the password

If you don't know the password to decrypt the backup, it can't be restored to any phone, including the old one.  You had to enable backup encryption and create password at some time in the past or maybe the backup is not from your old phone...

How do I back up my documents from my Macbook on iCloud? or can I only use time machine or external HD?
I think I have missed something in trying to read all of the pages on apple site about icloud.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can't back up a computer to iCloud.
You can use any back up software, you should always back up to a different drive.

  • How can I restore my new phone to my backup?

It wouldnt let me restore from my old back up to a new phone, so it made me register my phone as new, now i cant figure out how to restore from my old one so i get all my contacts back.

    Hello mel1089,
    Welcome to the Discussions Boards.
There are a couple of factors that may be contributing in this case. You list 10.4.5 for your OS version. The minimum system requirements for iTunes are currently 10.4.9 or higher.
    See the requirements here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
I would suggest updating your OS X and iTunes by running Software Update at least twice to get any availble updates.
Information on the restore/backup process can be found in this article:

  • How do you restore a 'new phone' from your previous phone iCloud?

I got a new iPhone 5 today after smashing the screen on my old one. I needed to use it straight away and wasn't connected to a wifi so i wasn't able to restore using iCloud, I set it up as a 'new phone'. How do I restore it now from my previous phone backup?
    Thanks

Restoring to an iCloud backup has to be done in the initial setup process.  If you have any data on your phone now that is not in the backup that you want to save you'll need to do that first.  Then go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Content and Settings.  You will then go through the setup screens as you did when the phone was new. When given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup (see image below).  Be sure you are connected to wifi and your charger as this will take some time to finish.

  • HT4859 how do I restore deleted text messages from an iCloud backup?

I mistakenly deleted an important text conversation - swiping and deleting the wrong conversation.   My iphone is backed up to icloud, but not on my conputer.  Are there steps I can take to restore the deleted text messages from the icloud backup?  If so what are they and where will I find the restored messages after the process?   Any help would be very much appreciated.

Hi again - thank you very much for the feedback.  It is actually a conversation over 3 days that is quite important so if I can recover it, I would like to.
As for the actual process, the most recent back up was prior to my deletion.   Three last questions (I hope...):
    1) How will I know what I need to redownload from itunes?
    2) Is this link the best in terms of the literal steps to take to do the restore:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4859?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
    3) Is there anything I should do to the phone before I begin the restore process?
Again, thank you for your time - very much appreciate the expert advice.

  • How do I restore my iPhoto library from my old macbook (stored in time machine) to my new iMac?

I have my old macbook backed up on my time machine.  The problem is, when i enter time machine on my new iMac, I can only restore files from the current iMac's backups.  I can go to finder, and find my files under the "shared>airport time capsule" menu, but I don't know how to safely and accurately restore the iPhoto library to the current iMac's iPhoto.
Most of the searches I did on this topic kept advising to enter time machine, find your file and hit restore, but I can not select files from my macbook's backup in time machine on the current iMac.

While in Time Machine, press the key combination shift-command-C. The front window will show all mounted volumes. All snapshots should now be accessible. Select the one you want and navigate to the files you want to restore.
If you need to restore from a backup of the hidden user Library folder, first select a snapshot, then press shift-command-G. A Go to Folder dialog will open. In it, you'll enter the path to the folder. The dialog will help you by automatically completing the parts of the path when you start to type them.
The path begins with slash character ("/"). Enter that. The rest of the parts will be separated by slashes.
The next part is the date and time of the current snapshot. Enter a "2", and the rest of the date should be filled in automatically. Press the right-arrow key to jump to the end of the path. Enter a slash to start the next part.
Next is the name of the volume (usually "Macintosh HD" unless you gave it a different name.) Start to type that, then jump to the end and enter a slash.
The next part is "Users", followed by a slash.
Next is your (short) user name, which is also the name of your home folder.
Finally, enter "Library", then press return. You should now be in the Library folder. From there you can get around as in the Finder.
This seemed to do the trick.  I found the iPhoto library file and chose restore.  The question now is where to put the iPhoto library file.

  • HT4859 How do I restore my Itunes account from the cloud.

My computer crashed and I have a new one and need to restore Itunes before I sync my iphone and Ipad.

iCloud does not contain your iTunes media, other than purchased apps and music, which can be redownloaded if necessary (see http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/mac.html).  Transferring media not purchased from the iTunes or App stores to your iTunes library is not supported with iTunes.  You have to use 3rd party software such as PhoneView (mac) or Touch Copy (pc or mac) to accomplish this.
These two articles will explain how to re-establish syncing with iTunes and transfer as much data from your iPad to your iTunes library as possible.   (The first was written for the iPhone, but it works the same way for the iPad.)
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive
