HT4864 can I use the icloud smtp server as the outgoing server for all my other imap accounts?

I have several imap accounts. I want to send all my messages using the icloud server. I put the icloud server as the smtp server for each account but mail is not able to send the messages. The configuration is correct for the smtp iclous server, I checked.
Is there anything I'm missing?

The only thing you're missing is that you can't do that. You have to use the correct smtp server for the mail accounts. Email providers generally don't like sending some other company's mail. If you want to send from the icloud servers, use your icloud account when composing.

Whenever you create a new icloud email it is an Apple ID, but if you previously had an Apple ID you cannot use the new email to replace the old one. My iCloud contact list does not contain all the contacts listed in my iPhone 5S. If I delete a contact from the phone it instantly deletes it from the iCloud on my PC. But my PC iCloud list is lacking many of the contacts on my phone.

However you shouldn't need that info, you can set up your mail account using just your ID and password.

Apple hasn't done anything. This is a security feature that you did not check to see had been properly de-activated before buying the phone.
If there was a back door, it would be useless as a security feature.

I use Plaxo for my contacts, and I want it to synch my Outlook contacts with my PC. I got a new HP PC with the (awful) Windows 8.0 operating system, and, to say the least, I miss the good old days. Plaxo customer support tells me that I can't use my iCloud contact synch because they clash.
My question: How do I disable my iCloud contact synch feature while still allowing the rest of iCloud (music, photos) to operate as usual.
What mysterious steps must I take in order to do this and not cause a complete meltdown in the process? The meltdown that I fear most is the one that happens between my ears.

Music is nothing to do with iCloud but Photostream is, so turn off Mail, Contacts and Calendars (in the iCloud Control Panel) and leave everything else on.
You will lose iCloud Calendars and Mail as well as Contacts, but you can manually re-enable mail (if you use iCloud email)

we do what your doing... we use the same ID for "Icloud".
We do NOT use the same ID for: Face time and Imessage

Set up the account using a desktop or laptop, then sign
into that account on your iPhone.
I am not aware of any method around the restriction once
the maximum has been created on any individual iPhne.
