In Security Now! Podcast #441, http://twit.tv/show/security-now/411 they discuss the need for SSL encryption to move to 2048 bit to be more secure. What level of encryption is iCloud email using?

Sorry I didn't make my question specific enough. I'm referring to the encryption used in the browser while using the mail app on iCloud. I believe gmail currently uses 1024 SSL but will be changing to 2048 in several months. The reason being that a 1024 bit key can theoretically be broken my dedicated hardware (costing millions of dollars, I might add) in around one year. Listen to the link above for more details. This takes an extreme effort to crack, but given that it is possible I wanted to know what Apple does.

Does icloud email support the DMARC standard? Some of the emails that come into my icloud.com should an unknown dmarc status in the headers. For example:
pass=?; dmarc-policy=(noPolicy); s=; d=
is contained in the header of some emails. I send the same email to a gmail account and it shows dmarc setup properly. Are their special rules for icloud for DMARC?

If I'm not mistaken, GMail is more robust in allowing you control over whether you automatically reply using the address to which a message was sent, to avoid inadvertently revealing your real or main address when dealing with mail from aliases, unless iCloud does that by default (I've only used this type of feature through GMail but was tending to my old Mac.com address and ran across your post...).

How can I check my icloud emails using windows xp?

My MacBook Pro crashed and I am currently using an old laptop on windows xp. When I go to enter online in Icloud.com my emails it does not allow me to see my emails unless I install icloud on my laptop. The problem is that when I follw the directions and the relevant link it sais that icloud is compatible only with windows 7 or 8. Does that practically means that I will not check my emails until my mac is back in life?

I am trying to access my emails using my browser but when I enter my ID and password a message appears saying that I need to set up icloud first in my current device before I can make use (enter) icloud.com
Then I pressed more info to find out how I can do that in a windows pc and I found out the following:

You don't have an account set up on the iPad in the mail app? If you use a computer you access it in iCloud.com using a web browser.

Does iCloud drive use up hard drive storage space?

HI,
I want to save hard drive space and use iCloud Drive to store my documents, pictures etc. I have the iCloud drive folder set up in my finder. I have been copying and pasting data in there, but it seems whenever I do; the hard drive storage space decreases.
I thought the entire point of iCloud was to use cloud storage and not offline storage; unless you download it from the cloud to your hard drive. Why am I losing hard drive space?
Any help you can offer or suggestions would be very much appreciated

I am writing to say that I am having the problem you are worried about. I have a 121 GB MacBook with flash storage, and I am running out of room.
This is my work computer so I don't have any personal photos/music/movies stored on here. My iCloud drive has over 100 GB on it and it's driving this computer nuts! I am constantly getting the "your startup disk is full" message. As you can see from the screen shot below, it's saying I have 58.61 GB of photos on this computer, 25.84GB of movies etc...but all these files live on my personal MacBook at home.
I am paying for the $3.99 a month for 200 GB but I didn't get that iCloud would use up my HD space. So as a warning, 128 GB may not be enough for you.

If you are using the Mail app (or one of the third-party email apps from the store) then yes, your downloaded emails and their attachments will use up space on your iPad. If you are accessing your accounts via a browser then they will probably use up some space in your browser's cache.

Why does GROUP email using a gmail account crash while using MAIL on mac?

I use MAIL for all of my email accounts-aol, mac, gmail,rr, everything is working well.
BUT when I try to send an email from a gmail accoutn to a GROUP using the GROUP list in ADDRESS BOOK , the MAIL program says that the names are not recognized, and then its difficult to delete the email.

First, make sure the group is recognized. It should add all the contacts in the group to the address field if it was recognized.
If that is good, then there might be a bad address in the group. I have seen problems with a single malformed address blocking the whole group from sending.
You'll have to just look through each address to see if you see anything.
If the whole group doesn't need to see all the others, you can try splitting the group in half, send the message. If it goes through, send the other half. Keep breaking halves into halves and testing. Eventually, you'll find the bad message.
I don't know of Mail's Connection Doctor or the log files in Console might identify the bad actor. Could be worth a look before trying the above brute force method.

Why does instantClient x64 use 32 bit drivers?

I am trying to install ODBC on a win 7 x64 machine.
Following the instructions, I installed the instant client and instant ODBC. When I look in the registry (since it doesn't work) in the ODBC section, it lists the driver as "C:\OracleInstall\client\instantclient_11_2\SQORA32.dll"
Now why would the fine developers at Oracle name a 64bit version of a driver SQORA32.dll?????
Could this be part of the problem?

How do I check my iCloud mail using Safari on an iPhone or iPad?

I'm a satisfied user of iCloud email. Everything is setup and working great on my iPhone. Recently my iPhone died and I needed to check email using my girlfriend's phone. There was no other computer handy (just an iPhone). I assumed I could launch Safari and navigate to something like iCloud.com or m.icloud.com. Unfortunately launching iCloud.com in Safari on iPhone or iPad will just give you instructions to set it up. What if I don't want to set it up in the native app (for privacy reasons) and just quickly check my email in the browser? Shouldn't there be a way to do this? I find it a bit ironic that there is no way to check your iCloud email using a web browser on any of Apple's "post PC" devices.

My belief would be that you log into your iCloud account on the laptop by going to www.icloud.com and sign in with your iCloud ID. Then go to the Mail link.

Just cannot register my Q10 to my icloud email using IMAP. I have tried every permutation there is but continue to get error messages. Really fed up and need a hand. I have no problem setting up a separate YAHOO and GMAIL account. My supplier is GiffGaff if that helps. THIS IS A PROBLEM, had .mac iCloud mail running fine on my Q10 until JULY 1. Mail was received but could not send out. Checked settings-did not connect to server. Deleted account and re entered information. TriediCloud.com and me.com substitutions to username and that did not work. Apparently something has changed on the Blackberry end since I can reach my mail on other devices and other mail clients. If can't resolve this week may have to get rid of Blackberrry product as much as I like them

If your Apple ID was changed from your old account, you may have to change it back to your old account to be able to sign out and then change it back after that is done. Take a look at the article below for more information.
