HT4897 iCloud Set Up on MacBook Air?

I am trying to set up my new MacBook Air.  The set up program is telling me that I need to update my Apple ID.  It says to use iCloud, I must change my Apple ID to an email address.  When I try to input the email address that I have associated with my iCloud account on my iPhone, it says that the email address is already being used and won't accept it?  Is there any risk in setting up a new email address say my Apple ID @icloud.com and not having everything link together?
Thanks for the help.
Jon

Rather that create a new Apple ID try logging into iCloud in the System/iCloud preference pane with the Apple ID and password you used on your iPhone.  That way both devices will be connected to the same iCloud account and can sync photos, contacts, etc. between them.

I am changing to iCloud on my iMac, MacBook Air and my iPhone. My iMac and MacBook both moved over to iCloud but my iPhone when I go to Settings and click on iCloud it shows my Mail setting turned Off. When I turn it on it wants me to create a new email address to turn on iCloud Mail. I already have to "me" accounts plus another email address and don't want to create another one. I don't understand why it's asking me to do this on my iPhone but didn't ask on my iMac or MacBook and is there a way around creating another @me.com email address?

I'm setting up my MacBook Air and it tells me to sign in with my apple ID so that I can set up features like iTunes and iCloud and such but when I try to sign in it says there's a server error. What do I do? Do I try to skip the step? How can I fix this?

My iphone is backing up to icloud but not my macbook air nor my iMac. Any ideas?

I use Time Machine with an external HD.  That seems to do what I need.  Others also recommend an second EHD with a bootable clone of your boot drive and use a 3rd party app like Carbon Copy Cloner, SuperDuper, Synk Pro, etc. to keep the clone up to date.
In addition to Time Machine I have a hard drive that I keep key files backed up with Synk Pro which does incremental backups, i.e. copying only those new or modified files.  For other candidates for the cloning and backup apps to go MacUpdate.com and search for "file backup" and "clone".

  • Problems with wireless printer set up for Macbook Air and iMac

I'm not having success in setting up  my Macbook Air (2012 ML version) and iMac wirelessly to a new Epson 837 printer. I've tried darn near everything and am coming to the conclusion that perhaps it's a router issue. Are there known issues with the Netgear N600? It's supposed to be Airprint compatible but yet my ipad and iphone doesn't recongnize either.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Yup, and since all your devices can probably access the Internet and other services over the router, you may want to study the printer's manual or use other Epson resources to figure out why that thing can't be talked to.
Oh, did I mention that already...?

One the Macs go to System Preferences > iCloud. Switch Contacts off

    Restart the Macs.

  • HT3748 Setting up a MacBook Air on Exchange email.

I am trying to set-up my MacBook Air on my company's exchange email server.  I am using the same settings as my iPad and iPhone, but it is not working/connecting.  Any ideas?

I never said it was, I asked if you have the correct settings for Exchange access over EWS (for your Mac) as opposed to the settings for Exchange access over EAS (iPhones etc)
    But you never answered that.
Good luck with your problem, I would ask IT first.

  • Battery issue after enabling iCloud on my new MacBook Air: maximum duration drop from 5 hours to 1.30!

What's up? I moved to iCloud (dammed me!) and the battery of my brand new MacBook Air last about 1.30 h now. What's going on? What should I do now? This is unacceptable

They have an UP TO 7 hour battery life.
The higher the load you put on the battery the quicker it will be depleted.
    Turn off bluetooth.
Turn the screen backlight down to as low as you can stand.
    Turn off the keyboard backlight.
Don't visit websites that are coded using flash.
    Don't view video.
You only get long run times when you use the cpu very lightly.

  • Setting up a macbook air

HElp help help. Although I have an IPad and iPhone I am new to the actual macs. Got my new MacBook Air today and already considering sending back as need a degree to set up!!!! I can't get past the welcome screen. I have read through the voice over info so many times and have tried to select United Kingdom option but it just won't have it. So frustrated. Can anyone tell me what to do please

You have 90 days of free telephone support. You might give that a try. Or you can take it back to the Apple Store where you purchased it and ask for someone to help you with the setup.
You should have a network connection, preferably Ethernet. When you make your selection from the list you need to click on the OK button. Pressing RETURN or double-clicking on the selection will not work. The Setup Assistant should begin with asking for your country selection.

  • How can I set up my macbook air to use programs on my iMac over the internet?

I have a program (MacPractice) on my iMac. It's running the server program while my MacBook Air is running the client software which has to be connected via the wireless (last Gen Time machine) in my office to function. What do I need to do to be able to access my iMac over the internet when I'm out of the office? I was told that I would need to set up a DNS (?) address to log in. I use a Comcast internet modem which goes through my Time Machine wireless router to my iMac. Is this even possible to do with the current setup?

Ok, in this case your iMac will be performing as an application server. As such, it will need to be "reachable" from the Internet. This is typically done in one of two ways: 1) It is assigned a static Public IP address, or 2) It is assigned a static Private IP address.
In the first method, your iMac will be like any other publically available server (Web, E-Mail, etc.) To accomplish this, you would need for your ISP to provide you with a static Public IP. You can then configure the AirPort Extreme to allow remote clients to access this server by creating a DMZ for the server. This would fully expose your iMac to the Internet.
In the second method, you would assign the iMac a static Private IP address that is just outside of the default range of the AirPort's DHCP service. You would then configure the AirPort for port mapping. Which ports that will be needed to be mapped will depend on what your application's support tells you.

  • I just set up new macbook air yesterday and all my birthdays on calendar went to that day

I just set up my new macbook air yesterday-today I find that all the birthdays I had on the calendar on my ipad had transferred to being on October 16 (yesterday).  The birthdays on each individual contact has changed to that date also-have no idea now when my friend's/relatives birthdays are.

  • How do I set up my MacBook Air to use Sparrow and Reeder's multitouch gestures?

Just set up my 11" air for the first time, and I just can't seem to get these apps multitouch fanciness to work without holding down the ALT key. I have them working flawlessly on my iMac with Magic Trackpad. The settings all seem to be the same between the two computers too.

  • Not receiving iCloud e-mail on MacBook Air

    Hello.
I don't seem to be receiving e-mail on my MacBook Air, although it goes to both my iPhone and iPad just fine. There are no Rules, Forwarding, or Junk Mail issues.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hey Harlemite In Stockholm,
Thanks for the question. Based on what you stated, it seems like the Mail application is not receiving emails. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

Am only finding the MobileMe icon in System Preferences.  I was a member but never set it up. No icloud icon. So can't get past this hurdle. I'll be upgrading next year but wanted to have all my contacts from iphone and ipad on my mac too.

The iCloud pane wasn't added to Mac OS X until 10.7.2.
