HT4906 Erase the disk for more space but ilife software are all missing!!!

Hey, I just erase the disk for more space, when I reinstall mountain lion, the I life software are all missing! And in app store it shows up that I need to buy them! So ridiculous !!! Why I can use them before

What's ridiculous? You erased the apps. They're not part of the OS. So, reinstall them for wherever their original source was.

    Thanks

    slaglejrp,
perhaps it would be less expensive to just install a new disk with a larger capacity on your current MacBook Pro, rather than plan on buying a new Mac with a larger disk? Once your current disk has been cloned to the new disk, and the new disk has been installed into your MacBook Pro, that would allow you to keep Photoshop 5 on your current MacBook Pro.

    The Basic Troubleshooting Steps are:
Restart... Reset... Restore from Backup...  Restore as New...
    Restart / Reset
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
    Backing up, Updating and Restoring
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
If you try all these steps and you still have issues...
Then a Visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is the Next Step...
Be sure to make an appointment first...

  • Please see the log for more details.... where to find the log???

    Hi everyone,
I have a WebI document in our DEV environment that I am trying to transport to PROD.
When I try I get the message:
Commit Status=Commit attempted and failed., Promotion Status=Failure : Object  has failed to promote. Please see the log for more details
But where do I find this log that has more detail?
As background, the document in PROD is corrupt and I want to replace it with the working copy from DEV. Perhaps the fact that the PROD document is banjaxed is the issue but I don't know.
    Many thanks
    Gill

    Hi Arvind,
We are going live to live on the promotion side of things.
Test promotion tells me everything is OK :-(
I appreciate your workaround solution, I would like to understand full what's happening and put a more permanent solution in place.
    With regards
    Gill

    many thanks Carl.

You must boot from another drive in order to erase the system drive.
Try starting up with Snow Leopard DVD inserted and C depress. That should get you booted from the DVD. Then start Disk Utitlity from DVD and erase the disk then you should be able to install Snow Leopard.
Remember that everything will be removed from the disk when you erase it and install Snow Leopard so backup first.

  • When Updatind any OS for iMac, is it better to do it by "Update Software" or erasing the disk?

I had this wondering when Mountain Lion came Out, now that OS X Mavericks it's coming soon I'm not quit sure what kind of process is better for my iMac. The Fact is that my iMac is getting a little bit slow (since iTunes updates began to come out last year) and I dont know if when I do the software update it would get faster or would still have the same speed problems.... So I thought it may be good to erase the disk before updating...
    Help Plz!

You might troubleshoot that issue now...
Make sure you have neough free disk space. Rule of thumb about 10% free minimum.
What happens you login into another user, like Guest. Or better yet, try starting in Safe Mode and see if the slowness still occurs?
    Restart holding the "shift" key.
(Expect it to take longer to start this way because it runs a directory check first.)

  • Can I exclude photos on my iPhone from being sent to iCloud and how?  My goal is to only sync my calendar to the iCloud and exclude everything else.  This way I don't have to pay for more space.

My goal is to only sync my calendar to iCloud and exclude everything else.  This way I don't have to pay for more space.

    Hey Murphie,
I don't pay for more space and I'm backing up two devices to iCloud, a 32G ipad and a 16G phone.
However, you can merely chose NOT to backup to iCloud. Then you won't run out of space. Items synced to iCloud do not take up your backup space.
Now, you WILL have to back up to your computer via iTunes the old fashioned way, or risk losing valuable data. Your choice.
However, if you manage your data responsibility, you won't run out of your 5G of storage on your iCloud backup from normal use.
    Good luck

  • I have an 06' macbook and I just bought an 07' macbook.. The 06' has os x 10.6 but the 07' has 10.5.. I no longer have the disk for snow leopard. Is there ANY way to get snow leopard from the old computer to the other without having to buy it again?

Technical issues aside, there's still a legal issue.
Neither 2006 nor 2007 MacBooks shipped with Snow Leopard 'factory' installed. OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard became available in September 2009. So you purchased and installed a Snow Leopard upgrade disc on the 2007 system at some point.
If your Snow Leopard upgrade was a single-user copy, then legally, you need to purchase another one for the second computer. If your Snow Leopard upgrade was a Family Pack 5-user license, then you're good to go.

If you have an active MobileMe account, Apple was giving away a single-user upgrade copy of Snow Leopard for a limited time, and you should have received an email with a link, or been offered the opportunity when you signed in to your MobileMe account on the web:
    http://www.macrumors.com/2012/04/24/free-snow-leopard-discs-for-mobileme-users-n ow-arriving/
Worst case, single-user Snow Leopard upgrade discs are $29 retail, direct from Apple. I'd hate to have two computers and no OS installation CD's for whatever version I'm currently using.

Is there an updated document ?
    MacBook 13" white - Early 2009 model

Oh, createinstallmedia only runs on OS 10.9!  Oh!  The 9999 is if you try to run it on an earlier OS!  Oh! Linc means to update the current drive to Mavericks, and then one will be able to run createinstallmedia, if one has first saved away a copy of the installer.
But if, like me, you are trying to create an installer to do a clean install on an empty drive, without replacing the earlier OS on your current drive, then...
You must use the slightly more complicated instructions you can find all over the place that look like
Right click "Install OS X Mavericks.app" and show package contents
Find a certain .dmg file and double click
Find a hidden .dmg within the drive that mounts from the first .dmg
Double-click or use "mount" on the hidden .dmg within the .dmg
Use Disk Utility to "restore" the second disk image onto the erased USB drive
Then replace an alias folder with a copy of a huge folder within the first disk image
I had success with the "Option 2: Use Disk Utility" section here.
