HT4906 I upgraded to the new mountain lion. Why did this not upgrade my iPhoto too?

Do i really need to spend £10.49 to update iPhoto?

iPhoto is not part of the Operating System. You don't have to update it if you don't want to, but if you do it will require a purchase.
