HT4906 iCloud/Iphoto
when I go to icloud.com the Iphoto icon is not there. How do I enable it?
there is no iPhoto icon in iCloud - what exactly are you wanting to do? Are you maybe speaking of PhotoStream?
iCloud is not a part of iPhoto - it has its own support forum
the iCloud Photo Stream FAQ are here - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4486?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

Icloud iphoto library beta vs icloud backup
I don't understand these two services, what's the difference?
When I lost my iPhone back in 2012, I simply bough another iPhone, typed in my e-mail and everything from my lost phone was there after downloading, all my photo's, everything. I could also download iCloud for PC and all my photo's would sync to my computer. When I plug my iPhone in and it's connected to wi-fi, it uploads all my data, including photos, to icloud.
So what's different about icloud iphoto library beta? You may find these links helpful

ICloud says I need to have iPhoto 09 or higher. My computer says everything is updated although iPhoto says it is version 8.1.2, preinstalled with OS X Snow Leopard v10.6.8 or earlier. I have gone through the Software Updates by the Apple () menu) as directed and this is when it said no updates are avaialbe. How do I update?
Different iCloud features require different versions. See http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/mac.html
If you are talking about PhotoStream then you must purchase an upgrade to iPhoto '11

Help with photos. iPhone - iCloud - iPhoto - Email ?????
I'm a new mac user. I switched over from Windows. The process of obtaining photos from iCloud on my iMac seems like a big hassle. So inconvenient I can't believe anyone would actually design it this way so maybe I'm just ignorant.
I take a photo with my iPhone.
The photo is uploaded through iCloud and appears in my iPhoto on my iMac.
Now I want to attach the photo to an email in the included mail program.
When I browse for the photo to attach, I look in "Photos" but iPhoto is grayed out. Why?
So what I've been doing is saving the picture to my desktop then attaching it that way.
This seems like a REALLY stupid extra step. What am I doing wrong here?
Thanks in advance. When I browse for the photo to attach, I look in "Photos" but iPhoto is grayed out. Why?
Is this where you're seeing the grayed out iPhoto in Mail?
Or are you trying to use the Attach button to add a photo?
If the photo is in your iPhoto Library on your Mac then you can select it and click on the Share button at the bottom right of iPhoto
and then on the Mail button in the next window:
and add it to a new email that way. -
Photos taken on my Iphone do not appear in ICloud. I've checked the settings but am unable to determine
what, if anything, I need to do inorder to syn the photos.
Technically, I need to review the settings on my Iphone and ICloud that will enable a seamless transfer of photos.
Additionally, I need to review the computer (microsoft)setting that enable a sync of photos with ICloud.Everything is fine, because there is no web application for photos at the moment. These are the options to view your Photo Stream:
-On your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, your photos will appear in the Photos app in the Photo Stream album.
-On your Mac, they appear in the Photo Stream view in iPhoto or Aperture.
-On a PC, your photos download to the Photo Stream download folder. By default, this folder is located at C:\Users\Apple\Pictures\Photo Stream\My Photo Stream. You can change this location by visiting Photo Stream Options in the iCloud Control Panel for Windows.
-On Apple TV, your photos will appear in the Photo Stream view under Internet in the main Apple TV menu after you sign in with your iCloud account. -

ICloud iPhoto journals vs Shared Photo stream
In iPhoto (for iOs Only) you can create photo journals and publish them on iCloud. This is very similar to shared photo streams. However Journals give you quite a few layout options which lack for photo stream. On the other hand shared photo stream are available also on iPhoto and Aperture for OsX. Am I missing something or these two feature should be merged ?

No but there is an edit button which you select and then tap multiple photos. -

ICloud/iPhoto Journals/browser|device anomaly
Re iCloud and iPhoto Journals:
Created a Journal; both iPhone and iPad devices were able to view the attendant images. However, on two desktop Mac computers and in browsers Google Chrome and Apple Safari only generic outline layout of the images were viewable, not the images themselves; interestingly, Mozilla Firefox did display the Apple website correctly. As to the PC side, Microsoft Explorer couldn't view this page at all.
Again, on my older model computers, neither Chrome nor Safari could view this 'journal' iCloud-related page properly, while Firefox could. And nothing on the PC side was able to.
I am very interested to hear contrary reports, and perhaps suggestions as to why this is happening.I think I understand your question!
To save it on another device, simply publish it to iCloud.
At the top of your finished Journal, tap the curved arrow and select "iCloud". Next, turn on "Publish to iCloud". The program will upload the images for a few moments, and the journal should be available on your other devices in iPhoto under Journals.

ICloud, iPhoto, Trash -- problems
I would like to get answers for a few questions which have been bothering me too much ever since I started purchasing apple products.
Firstly, every time I get a new apple product, the icloud backup space is altered in random ways. Also, I don’t know why when I change contacts in one iphone in the other iphone also everything seems to have got erased which is the most irritating part. Even if I switch off all the icloud backup and synch , this happens.
Secondly, in the mac, long back I deleted some backup and now it does not remove itself from the trash!! Moreover I would like you to guide me to organize iphoto which keeps on saying about some recovered photos every time I open it. It doesn’t go whatsoever and I cannot reset iphoto or something of that sort. And why on earth do apps get downloaded on all devices even if icloud is put off from synching??iPhoto is known chocking when trying to delete large numbers of photos at a time. It's best to do them in batches of 100 or so at a time.
First try going into iPhoto's General preference section and deactivating the Item Count option and then try again. Another user reported that fixed it for him.
If that doesn't work iPhoto is known to lock up if you try to delete a large number of photos at a time. Here's how to get out of the predicament you're in:
If you don't use the Rating stars you can do the following: select all of the photos in the trash and Control-click to bringup the contextual menu. There will be the 5 stars for the ratings. Select either 5 or 1 to apply that rating to the photos.
Next create a smart album with the criteria:
selecting the number of start you applied to those in the Trash bin.
Move the photos from the Trash bin to the Library and the Smart Album will immediately be populated with those photos.
You can now select about 100 photos or so at a time and use the Command+Option+Delete key combination to move them back to the Trash bin and empty it. Repeat with groups of about 100 or so photos till they are all deleted. Then delete the Trash bin in the Dock to completely remove them from your hard drive.

Two icloud/iphoto accounts...
I recently discovered that I have two iphoto accounts and I don't know if there is a way to merge them. iphoto on my mac is under my old icloud account from years ago that I rarely use anymore, but my icloud account on my phone and ipad is the newer one and the one I use most often. I have photos on the old account that I would like to save and combine into my newer iphoto account. is it possible to combine the two accounts and deactivate the old one?
Thanks!Have the photos in the old iCloud account been imported into your iPhoto library? If not the do so manually. Once that's accomplished on you Mac go to the System/iCloud preference pane and sign out of iCloud. Reboot, go back and sign in with the iCloud account that your phone is using.
Now setup iPhoto's iCloud preferences as follows:
This will automatically import all new photos on your iPhone into your iPhoto library.
To get the older photos on your iPhone into your iPhoto library connect the phone to your Mac with its USB cable. Launch iPhoto and let iPhoto import all of the photos into the library. If some are already there you will get a duplicate warning which you can tell iPhoto not to import. Do not let iPhoto delete the photos from your iPhone. If you want to delete some do it from the iPhone. -
File transfer problem iCloud iPhoto library
I want to transfer my iPhoto library into iCloud - the transfer is not happening. How do I either come back to be able to access the file or proceed with the file transfer to iCloud?
In the iPhoto Library previously, am I correct that anything put on the iCloud with the app only stays there for a specific and only limited time -- for 'sharing' and not storage?
It depends on the type of Photo Stream you use. The My Photo Stream is for syncing photos from mobile devices to your iPhoto Library and get imported if the library is set up accordingly. The remain in the My Photo Stream for 30 days.
Shared Photo Streams remain indefinitely and can be shared with anyone, either privately or as a public stream.
If I am correct, has this feature changed on the new update, Photos app? Will the pictures be stored there and not be removed
If you choose to use the iCloud Photo Library feature all of your photos will be copies to the iCloud Photo Library and be accessible from all devices signed in to the same Apple ID. A copy will be on your hard drive but you can elect to have an optimized copy instead of a full copy.
The iPhoto Photo Library will require purchasing enough space to house your library in the cloud. Unfortunately one can't selectively put just part of a Photo Library in the iCloud Photo Library. It's all or nothing. Now one could have multiple Photo Libraries on your Mac, with one just for the iCloud Photo Library. But at this time there's no convenient method of transferring photos from one Photo library to another like we can with iPhoto and iPhoto Library Manager. I understand the iPLM is being ported over to be used with Photos so that would make the method I suggested viable.
Personally, there are enough features lacking with Photos that I will be maintaining and using my iPhoto Library as well as using Photos for as along as iPhoto will work. -
