HT4906 iPhoto and Lion
I downloaded pics from my camera, which then deleted the pics. Now I can't find iPhoto.
I see all my pics are in Finder-Go-Recent Folders-Pictures. They appear to all be there, even the old ones.
But I cannot find the iPhote icon, 'nor the program.
I am using Lion 10.7.3.
I have checked all downloads, and all are up to date.
Also can I get help on the email format on the Lion 10.7.3...I hate it! Liked the old format where only the sender, date and time was shown. The new one looks like reading a book..........
I am a rookie iMac user...please help.
Sandra
How did you download the pictures from your camera? Did you use iPhoto? Did you look in your Pictures folder for the iPhoto Library? Do you have iPhoto in the Dock and if you do what happens when you double click on it?
Download and use Find Any File to search for a file named "Library6.iPhoto". It's a file that is in every iPhoto library. FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't and if there's an iPhoto library on your hard drive FAF will find it.
As for Mail there's not much we can do send a feature request to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/Mail.html. I know of no 3rd party "hack" to change the GUI.

Promblem between Desktop Iphoto and Lion
Hi
I installed Lion a few days ago.
I have a problem with my destop. I used to change automatically the desktop picture each 5 minutes picking in an iphoto album called "vacances" (it means holidays infrench)
Since i installed Lion, i can't finf my "vacances" album to pick pictures for my desktop.
I have the same problem with my iMac and my macbookpro
Does anyone have the answer ?
thanks a lotthank you William for taking the time to help.
Just going to take a moment to be clear on what is going on with my MacMail. It seems that any messages that I had in my generic mailbox are all still there, however I had several addtional mailboxes for sorting out mail from different companies, people, etc. I also had Rules for all the corresponding mailboxes. These all seem to have disappeared. Also I seem to be running Version 4.5 (1084).
I can't seem to find the Library folder you mention. I went "Finder>Go>Home" clicked on home and I got a folder containing the following folders (plus a few others) Applications, Desktop, Documents, Downloads etc...
Am I looking in the right place. I also did a spotlight search for "Library" and no folders with that name came up.
I am not sure how much of a speed bump that is.
Thank you again for your help -
I recently upgraded to Lion and when I tried to upload pictures it says unrecognized file type. It is showing the same format that I uploaded before I upgraded. Is there a setting I need to change?
As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there? -
Problem with iPhoto and Lion OS
Since upgrading to Lion OS, I have noticed that every time I open iPhoto 11, it tells me that it needs to be upgraded. I have checked for software updates and am told that there are none. Does anyone know how to resolve this?
What version are you at now, 9.1 or 9.2....?

Manually migrating iPhoto and iTunes from Snow Leopard to Lion..
Hi all,
I received a shiny new iMac yesterday and in my haste to get it up and running, I began to run the migration assistant on wi-fi. Unfortunately, my 2006 macbook model is so old that my firewire cables don't actually fit the firewire port on the back of the iMac!!
11 hours later, there was still 40 hours left to go. At this point I manually quit the migration assistant. Partly because I have to work and to work I need to use a computer and partly because I realised that I don't want all the old crud from my previous system.. all I want is my iTunes (songs, apps, playlists etc) and my iPhoto to migrate.
The original admin account that the migration assistant was going to replace was still there. Everything seems to be working fine... I did a quick repair of disk permissions and all seems fine. So, I think I flirted with danger by quiting the migration assistant, but danger doesn't seem to have flirted back.
I've searched high and low on the web and I can't find any advice on migrating just your iPhoto and iTunes from Snow Leopard to Lion. I did read a post somewhere (relating to a migration to Leopard) where someone wrote that, for iPhoto, you simply had to replace your iPhoto Library in your pictures folder on the destination machine and then simply start iPhoto. iPhoto would upgrade the databases etc and all would be fine in the world. I cannot find a post online that suggests that this is also the case for Lion.
Can anyone here give me some hints on how to manually migrate the iPhoto and iTunes libraries over (and still preserve playlists in iTunes, albums/events in iPhoto etc)?
I figure that I cannot be the only person in the world who wants a "fresh start" on their machine, with the exception of iPhoto and iTunes.Resident apple gurus at work have advised me to use the migration assistant and plug an ethernet cable between machines.
I'll give this a go and then go through the process of removing and cleaning up whatever old data I can.. but if someone posts a response to this question for me, I'll happily roll back in time-machine and go again in a cleaner way. :-) -
I updated the software on my 2009 MBP to Mountain Lion. Since then, my iPhoto has been unable to open my photo library. I have updated iPhoto, and still no luck. Any ideas for fixing this problem?
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Do you see any message when you open iPhoto? Try to open iPhoto holding Option key and select the library -
Apple put a new hard drive into my MacBook Pro and updated it from Lion to Maverick. They did not put iPhoto and iWeb on it but I did have it in Lion. They also didn't put Pages, Keynote or Numbers back on it until I argued with them. Of course, I didn't have my data backed up. My hard drive was destroyed when I tried to install the update of Mavericks myself. I should not have to buy iWeb and iPhoto when I already had them. Suggestions?
cwhargrave,
have you tried looking in the App Store, to see if you can redownload iWeb and iPhoto there gratis?
If you haven’t done so already, you should purchase an external hard drive to act as a Time Machine backup destination, so that you’ll have an option to rollback to a working environment if a new OS installation is troublesome. -
Is there a way for my macbook air (running Lion 10.7.2) to access an external hard drive on my Imac (running snow leopard 10.6.8) specifically for Iphoto and itunes?
Yes. For those two applications specifically there is sharing. This presumes both computers are on and connected to the same network.
In iPhoto, enable sharing by (on the iMac) going to the iPhoto menu > Preferences > Sharing > check Share my photos. You can either share the entire library or only selected albums. Now on your MacBook Air, in iPhoto, go to the same preference pane and select Look for shared photos.
iTunes has something similar. In the iTunes menu > Preferences > Sharing > check Share my library on my local network. On the other computer, look in the left column for SHARED and select the iMac. You can now play that music on the MacBook Air.
There are other ways to share files but for those two applications this is the simplest way.
Best of luck. -
I upgraded my MacBook Pro with Lion (but with iphoto 9.2.1) to Maverick and now I can't open iphoto and I can't update either - can anyone help please?
Download the iPhoto upgrade from the App Store. It should be free.
iWork and iLife for Mac come free with every new Mac purchase. Existing users running Mavericks can update their apps for free from the Mac App Store℠. iWork and iLife for iOS are available for free from the App Store℠ for any new device running iOS 7, and are also available as free updates for existing users. GarageBand for Mac and iOS are free for all OS X Mavericks and iOS 7 users. Additional GarageBand instruments and sounds are available for a one-time in-app purchase of $4.99 for each platform. -
Is iPhoto and iMovie and garage band on Lion reinstall thumb drive from Apple??
Is iphoto and imovie and garage Band On the Os x Lion reinstall thumb Drive Sold By Apple???
No. iLife is a separate product that is bundled with the purchase of a new Mac, not the purchase of a new OS.
So, anyone with an older Mac would have pay for an upgrade to iLife in addition to paying for an upgrade to Lion.
On a positive note, you can now upgrade separate components in the App Store (i.e. iPhoto), instead of paying for the complete iLife suite -
even via time machine the new osx lion has deleted all my latest files in iPhoto and will only revert back to an old 2009 backup?... Help?!
Have you verified that the original files are missing from the Originals/Masters folder? There are time when the library might appear empty due to a damaged database file but still has the files. If you can open the library package via the Finder to see if the files are really missing or just can't be seen by iPhoto there are fixes you can try.
If the files are there make a temporary, backup copy of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

Software update in mountain lion offers updates for iPhoto and iMovie that will not install
Updated my iMac 2011 to Mountain Lion. Software Update now operates through the App Store. Third Party apps are OK but Apple's native Mac apps eg iPhoto, iMovie offer updates for installation that do not install.
Get this error eg for iMovie but similar for iPhoto and maybe others:
"We could not complete your update. iMovie is already installed on this computer. Choose Software Update from the Apple menu to check for available updates."
If you do as suggested, it reloads App Store software update and goes round again...
If I go to "Check for updates" in the iMovie menu it tells me it's the current version.
"This version of iMovie (9.0.8) is the current version."
The badge showing the count of apps requrining an update is also wrong.Hi, just wondering, were any of Apple's Apps moved from there default location?

IPhoto and iMovie will not open with Mountain Lion upgrade.
Since upgrading to Mountain Lion OS 10.8, my iPhoto and iMovie will not open. I am using a newly purchased MB Air. I re-installed iPhoto from the App Store after trashing my previously installed iPhoto application. IPhoto Library Manager was downloaded as recommended on Apple Support but also will not open. I also tried to trach the iPhoto plist as recommended by a community member. Each application (iPhoto and iMovie) bounces above the dock and message received that application unexpectedly closed. Thank you for any recommendations.

No iLife, iPhoto and Garage Band on Mac OS X Lion?
I recently installed mac os x lion. Before that I had Snowlepord with all iLife,iPhoto and garage band app. Now on new lion OS I don't have any of those. Do I need to download them again ?
You shouldn't have lost any apps unless you did a fresh install and didn't have a backup.
Were they preloaded, via retail disc or did you purchase through the app store?
If preloaded, find the discs that came with your mac, those apps will be on the 2nd disc
For retail, find the DVD and reinstall
For the app store, go to the purchased tab and reload. -

How do I use multiple classes to access the same object?
This should be staightforward. I have and object and I have multiple GUIs which operate on the same object. Do all the classes creating the GUIs need to be inner classes of the data class? I hope this question makes sense. Thanks, Mike
