  • HT4007 How can I get Aperture onto my new Macbook Pro 15" Retina that DOESN'T have a superdrive from my 5 year old Macbook Pro?  I still have the CD and serial number for Aperture. HELP! PLEASE!!

Like the thread topic says. I need help getting Aperture onto my new macbook pro that does not have a drive. I have no need for a drive after this to be honest just need my programs back on it. Thanks.

    Two options:
Make a disk image or a clone of the installer CD on your Mac that has a super drive - you can create a disk image using Disk Utility or use Carbon Copy Cloner (if you have it) to clone the DVD to a thumbsdrive. Then run the installer on your MBY from this copy.
Or download the Trial Installer and install from there:
    Download the Aperture 3.1 Trial.  http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/Aperture/061-8328 .20101020.AprE3/ApertureTrial3.1.dmg
Open the Aperture Trial disc image.
    Double-click the "Aperture Trial.mpkg" file.
Follow the onscreen instructions to install Aperture.
After the installation completes, choose Software Update from the Apple () menu.
Install the Aperture 3.4 update from the list of available updates.

  • I just got my daughter a new macbook pro. She currently shares my wires apple id for iTunes on her iTouch. I need to set up an email account for her. Is there any way to set up a new iCloud email account but still use my wires apple id for iTunes?

I just got my daughter a new macbook pro. She currently shares my wifes apple id for iTunes on her iTouch. I need to set up an email account for her. Is there any way to set up a new iCloud email account but still use my wifes apple id for iTunes?

No it's not stealing. They have an allowance that you can share with so many computers/devices. You'll have to authorize her computer to play/use anything bought on your acct. You can do this under the Store menu at top when iTunes is open on her computer.
As far as getting it all on her computer....I think but I am not sure (because I don't use the feature) but I think if you turn on Home Sharing in iTunes it may copy the music to her computer. I don't know maybe it just streams it. If nothing else you can sign into your acct on her computer and download it all to her computer from the cloud. Not sure exactly how to go about that, I haven't had to do that yet. I wonder if once you authorize her computer and then set it up for automatic downloads (under Edit>Preferences>Store) if everything would download. Sorry I'm not much help on that.

  • I have connected an external hard drive to my new macbook pro.  I only have read access.  How do I copy folders to the external hard drive?

I have a new Macbook pro retina.  I have connected a WD external hard drive, but have only read access.  I want to back up my computer, and have the ability to archaive files.  Any suggestions?

I have connected a WD external hard drive, but have only read access.
As ds store already pointed out, if the drive is formatted as NTFS, you can't write to it. Fortunately, the fix is easy, just erase the hard drive using Disk Utility as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
I want to back up my computer, and have the ability to archaive files.  Any suggestions?
Backups and archival backups are not necessarily the same thing. An archival backup is to be kept indefinitely far into the future, and should never be changed after it is created. That does not mesh well with being on the same drive as a backup maintained day-to-day. Ideally, archival backups should be written to one drive - possibly multiple backups, but each one should never be touched after it is written - and other backups should be maintained with greater frequency on one or more other drives.
You can get a bit of compromise with an incremental backup, like what Time Machine does. That will keep old data as long as there's still free space on the drive, then will start removing the oldest copies of files to make space for newer stuff when necessary. Another alternative is the way Carbon Copy Cloner does incremental backups, where the data keeps piling up until the drive is full and then the backups fail until you remedy the situation. (This could allow you to fill up a drive and then put it on a shelf as an archival backup and start a new backup on a new drive.)
If you can specify more what you want to do, we can advise you better.

  • How do I transfer Aperture to my new macbook pro?

Hi, I've just bought a powerbook pro (no optical drive) and I have aperture 3 on cd which I've installed on my iMac. How do I get Aperture 3 on my new powerbook?
    Thanks

It is safer to install Pro Applications like Aperture by running the installer than migrating them.
Just for completeness's sake two more options:
You can also download the Aperture Trial installer - it will install the same version you are having on CD - download from here:   Aperture 3.1 Trial
Then update it immediately from the Apple  menu> Software update, launch it, and enter your serial number(s). Don't try to launch Aperture on your libraries, before you have run software update.
Or,  use Disk Utility to create a Disk Image from your CD and copy  this to a thumbsdrive. Then open the disk image on your new Mac and run the installer.
Just in case, that you get an error message "check with the developer to make sure Aperture works with this version of Mac OS X" don't worry, some of the older installer DVDs give his error message, because a developer certificate expired. This easily solved by resetting the date before installing to a date before February 2012, see the thread below.

  • Installing Aperture 3 onto new MacBook Pro

    Hi Support Team,
I own a copy of Aperture 3.0 (on disk); I bought the software back in 2010 when it was first released and have been running the software on my MacBook Pro (2009 model).
Now, I have bought the new MacBook Pro Retina and installed Mountain Lion.
    Question:
Do I have to purchase the latest version of Aperture to work on the new MacBook?
Or can I load Aperture 3.0 using my original disk and hope that I can update the software to the latest version (3.3.2)?
    Thanks,
    Steve

You should be able to install with the DVD and then download the AP 3.3.2 installer from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1561?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
You may or may not need to go the 'System Preferences > Security & Privacy' and select 'Anywhere' in the 'Allow applications downloaded from:' section. I am not sure whether or not the DVD will get flagged as it may or may not be a signed installer.
Suggest running the AP 3.3.2 update and then 'Repair Permissions' via Disk Utility prior to launching Aperture for the first time.

  • HT3805 Installation of Aperture 3 on new Macbook Pro, upgraded trial version.

Can I intstall Aperture 3 on my new macbook pro if I initially installed it on my current macbook pro using the trial version and product key?  The trial version of Aperture 3 is no longer offered on Apple's site.
    Thanks.

Can you tell me if there is a way to look up my product key?
    You are welcome.
You see the serial number in the "About" panel on your curent MacBook. In Aperture's main menu bar select: Aperture > About Aperture.
You should have received the licence key by email, if you unlocked the Trial. Search your mail box, if you still have a copy of the email. I would archive it, in case you ever need a proof of purchase.

  • I just updated Java on a new MacBook Pro and am being told most programs can't open because they need Legacy Java SE 6, I am unsure what to do now...

I just bought a new MacBook Pro on Tuesday, but now I can't open most programs as they claim to need Java SE 6. The new computer forced me to use Yosemite instead of Maverick which I had been using. I have downloaded the most up to date version of Java but I can't seem to get anything to work still.
    Any advice?

This is what the programs are asking for: Java for OS X 2014-001

    Welcome to the Apple forums:
Apple does not supply free upgrades for older OSs, only updates.
10.5.1 to 10.5.2, etc. is a free update
10.4.x to 10.5. is an upgrade that requires a purchase of the new OS
Purchase of a computer does not generally include free OS upgrades.
DVDs that come with a new system are not designed for and should not be used on earlier computer systems, for multiple reasons, the most important of which is it is not legal to do so. It is a violation of the Apple license agreement we "signed."
Yes, you have to buy Leopard if you wish to install Leopard on your old computer.

  • HT1414 having bought a new MacBook, I wanted to Sync my iPhone4 to it, but it insists the only method to do so is to "Erase and Sync" or "Cancel" which leaves no option to just use iTunes on the new MacBook Pro - how annoying is that???

I have had the iphone4 for 2 years now and I bought a new MacBook Pro, opened iTunes and it knew I already had other machines with iTunes sync'ed with it but it still insisted on offering one option or sync'ing with new MacBook - "Erase and Sync", which means deleting EVERYTHING on the iphone. What if I want my iPhone to dictate and get iTunes on the Macbook to match up with the iPhone??? Or at least get iTunes to relate to what my iTunes account obviously has on it and update that way. Come on Apple, as per usual, very pretty but not very practical!!!

You can only sync everything with your one syncing computer/iTunes library. Yu can:
    - Make this your syncing computer by:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
    - Use the manual method to copy music and videos from any computer/iTunes library to the iPod. See the manual method included here:
