  • How do I get the iTunes program to go to a particlar site to obtain the music that is on an external hard drive

I have reinstalled iTunes after a small calamity, but I had a backup file of all my music on an external hard drive. Question 1. Where does the program find the music as what has come up is not complete? Question 2. How do you get the program to look in a particular drive for the music that is there?
    Cheers

Where are you trying to put the folder? At the top level of the volume? That top level is only writable by the system (or an authenticated admin, which is why it's asking for your admin password).
If you are trying to move into a folder, repeat the "Get Info" on the folder into which you are trying to move. You want to see that your current account has "Read & Write" privileges.
Yes, third-party NTFS drivers can affect the behavior of volumes they control. (One could say that is the whole point of their existence.) They are supposed to be act just like native volumes, but they don't always succeed. I have no specific knowledge of whether Tuxera NTFS drivers would cause the problems you are seeing; I use a different brand..

  • My hard drive crashed and I have lost my Itunes library. How can I get my the music that I loaded from my own CDs back on my PC from my iPod?

My hard drived crashed in my HP Pavilion desktop and I have installed a new one. I have Windows 2007. My Itunes library is gone. How can I get all the music that I loaded onto my iPod from my own CD's back into an Itunes library?

The loading of audio files to iPod is designed to go one way only: computer to iPod. There are some third-party applications available which will rescue an audio library and write the files back to a PC HDD. The playlists might not copy, nor the album art work, nor videos but you might be able to recover all audio files. Some apps are open source and available for free download, for example: Senuti, Onyx. There are others which are  Windows-based; do a Google search to find out.

Turning off Home Sharing would seem the most logical step.

  • I can not store all my Music on my internal Macbook pro hard drive so I am storing it on a large external drive connected to my airport extrem.  How do I get Itunes to search for the music here with out trying to copy it to my laptops hard drive??

I can not store all my Music on my internal Macbook pro hard drive so I am storing it on a large external drive connected to my airport extreme (2 TB drive plugged into the USB port).  I see the drive on my laptop and I can add and delete files no problem.  How do I get Itunes to search for the music here with out trying to copy it to my laptop's hard drive?  I don't have enough space to do that.

How did you move the music to the external drive?  What exactly is on the drive?  The entire iTunes folder or only music?  If it is the entire iTunes folder you can do the option+start suggestion earlier.  If you copied only music and did so by dragging it there then you need to delete it again and consolidate/organize it there instead so iTunes tracks the move.  iTunes 12 for Mac: Change where your iTunes files are stored - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH19507

i got a macbook pro 2008 and can not back up using time machine. it eject my external hard drive everytime. does anybody has a fix???

Does your external hard drive have it's own power supply?  It should.
Is your external hard drive formatted with the NTFS file system?  It won't work.
It needs to be formatted either with Mac OS Extended or FAT32.
(There are drivers available to add NTFS support to OS X but their quality is unknown, especially the "free" ones.)

  • Why can I not sync the music that I didn't purchase on iTunes with my new computer?!

I upgraded my computer, so I had to reinstall iTunes... I don't understand why I cannot just simply sync the music off of my iPod Touch that I didn't buy with iTunes to my library... The only music that is syncing is the music that I bought through iTunes... WHY CAN"T IT JUST BE SIMPLE?! (I don't have a backup of it..)

You don't have the old computer or a backup of it?

  • How can I back up my time capsule contents to a different hard drive?

I want to back up my time capsule to a different hard drive so I have that extra layer of safety

There are a few ways to do this but none good.
Airport utility will do an archive of the disk.. just open to the disk tab and click archive. The target is USB drive connected to the machine. But it can only do full backup.. no incremental.
You can backup over network but not using Time Machine.. Carbon Copy Cloner is a $40 software that is well worth it. Super slow though doing this.
I recommend you backup using CCC direct from the computer to the target.. otherwise you can be backing up the same problem.

  • HT1296 Why can't I put the music, that is on my ipod, on to my computer itunes?

I got a new computer because my old one went out of commision. All I want to do is put the music and apps that are on my ipod onto my itunes on my new computer. My computer doesn't recognize it as a media player or Ipod. It recognizes it as a Digital Camera. So I can't acsess any of my music or apps to place them on my computer or itunes. I can't veiw it at all. It acs as if none of it is even on there. When I try and sync my ipod to my computer it says: Syncing ipod to itunes will add the music from itunes onto my ipod but erase everything existing on the ipod. Would you like to sync? NO. I just want to add my music to my computer and add more. Is there any way to do that without completely erasing everything that's currently on my ipod? Have over 100 songs and about 50 apps. Any help is MUCHO apreciated.

  • Is there any way that I can recoop all of the music that I purchased 4 years and another computer, ago?

I lost my computer some years ago. Its a PC, what did I expect. I cant stand thinking that all of that music is just lost!

For music that was download from the iTunes store, see this article about the possibility of redownloading it all at no cost.  However, you must live in the US and be using iTunes 10.3 or later for it to work.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519
If the music was imported from outside of iTunes you'll need to reimport that music manually again.

  • Can I back up with Time Machine to a previously used hard drive?

I've just replaced an old MacBook Pro with a new one and used Time Machine to get the new MBP set up.  All is well and it looks like my new computer is a mirror of the old (tested for a week now).  If I turn on Time Machine with the new MBP using the same hardrive as the former, will the files remain and be accessible?  Presently, I can only access the old files by going into the hard drive through Finder and even then, most are locked.  Thanks in advance.

There's your problem. I'm betting that you are currently using the new account you made which is why you cannot access anything on the migrated account.
If it's not a major hassle at this point in time log out of the new account. Log into your migrated account. You should now be able to access all your files. Now comes the issue. Let's suppose you named your new account, "NewAccount" and the second, migrated, account was named, "Account." If this is the case, then log out of "NewAccount," log into "Account," then delete "NewAccount." This should put you back to your old account but on the new computer. You should have access to all your files.
Now, suuppose your migrated old account was called "Account," but you created a new account that you named, "Account." Then you migrated your old account but it now shows as "Account 2" on the new computer. Now you've go a bit of a problem because it isn't trivial to rename an account. In this case you should create a third account we'll call "Temp." Log into "Temp" and delete the other two accounts. Open Migration Assistant and re-migrate your Home folder, third-party applications and support files, and system preferences from the old computer. After the transfers have been completed log into the migrated account and configure it as your default for auto login. Now delete "Temp." You should now have one account with the same username as on the old computer.
It's my understanding that Time Machine should then be able to continue backing up as before, but just to be sure you need to visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for better information.
