HT4914 Can MPEG files be used with iTunes Match?

I have a lot of songs on iTunes that are MPEG format, can they be used with Match? Thanks in advance!

Hi Gee-go,
Yes.  I just wanted to double-check, since there are several audio and video formats that go by the name of MPEG (since they are based on specifications from the Motion Pictures Expert Group), but the one iTunes calls "MPEG audio file" is indeed MP3.
If you subscribe to Match, it will attempt to match songs (MP3 or other format) in your library with Store AAC/256 versions of the same song.  Match does not replace the version in your library, unless you manually remove the original from your library and download the matched version.
The 25k limit counts any songs in your library that were not purchased from the iTunes Store.

  • HT204406 Hard Drive wiped out - Can I rebuild the library with iTunes Match?

My hard drive and external back of my entire music library (15,000+ songs) were completely deleted. I would like to recover this in some way other than loading each single CD one at a time again. I have iTunes Match so I was wondering if there is someway for me to rebuild my library via download from the cloud or something so that I can maintain a new physical copy of the files on my computer again? Or will I have to do this from my iPod?

    Hello Mclary101,
Thanks for your question! Im sorry to hear about your computer but it sounds like you had iTunes Match turned on before this happened. You should be able to use this article to get your music in iTunes Match re downloaded:
iTunes: How to add a computer or iOS device to iTunes Match
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4913
To add a computer to iTunes Match
Open the latest version of iTunes on the computer you intend to add. You can download the latest version of iTunes here.
Sign in with the Apple ID you use with iTunes Match.
Choose Store > Turn On iTunes Match.
Click the Add This Computer button.
When prompted, enter your Apple ID password.
iTunes will automatically begin scanning your computer's library for matches.
A status indicator will allow you to track progress. You may also manually pause and resume the process at any time by clicking the Stop or Start button.
Once iTunes has completed matching and uploading your iTunes library, your music in iCloud will be integrated into your local music library. A download button will appear to the right of any content that you have in iCloud that doesn't already exist on your computer.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • I can't sync iPod classic with iTunes Match since I have updated to iTunes 11

When I open iTunes (11) and connect my iPod (classic) it does not recognise the device.  I am using iTunes Match.   My question is how do I transfer the music from PC to my iPod?  I just bought a new PC and thought getting Match would be useful and save time transferring from my old PC.  It was fine to begin with until the iTunes 11 update.
    Any help would be appreciated!

The iPod classic not bring recognized is unrelated to iTunes Match. You should post this problem to either the iPod Classic forum https://discussions.apple.com/community/ipod/ipod_classic or the iTunes for Windows forum https://discussions.apple.com/community/itunes/itunes_for_windows. Probably the former.
FYI it is only iOS devices that cannot be synced via USB with iTunes Match enabled.

  • How or can you sync older ipods with Itunes Match?

How or can I sync my second generation IPod with ITunes Match?

For iPods, iTunes Match only works with iPod touch, because it is an iOS device (like iPhone and iPad).  Even for iPod touch, it must be 3rd or 4th gen (running iOS 5 or later).

  • How can I synch a ringtone with iTunes Match

    Hi all,
I am using iTunes Match and I've made a song into a ringtone.
I see the song in my iTunes in a folder named "ringtones" so I suspect Apple recognises it as a ringtone.
When I synch my iPhone (5s) however, I can't find the ringtone in my iPhone.
So either I'm searching in the wrong place, or it isn't synchronised.
Because I am using iTunes Match for my music, I suspect that could be causing the problem.
    Any tips?
    Best regards,
    Peter

I've tried to follow the step-by-step guide.
However, I don't have the option "Creat AAC version". When I go and check via Finder, my songs already are AAC version. So I made a copy of the song in question in finder, I've double-clicked it to open in iTunes and then I adapted the playing time to 27 seconds. Afterwards I copied it my desktop, deleted the file in iTunes and changed the extension on the desktop to m4r.
When I check it in Finder, it says in the properties "ringtone" (while my other music is "Apple MPEG-4-audio"), which leads me to assume that iTunes does indeed recognizes it as a ringtone. Is this a correct assumption or not?
In the iTunes tab ringtones however, nothing appears. When I synch there's no ringtone on my iPhone.

  • Consolidate multiple iTunes libraries on External HD to use with iTunes Match

I have a backed up iTunes library on an external HD because I rebuilt my macBook Air. I now want to move it to another External HD, consolidate that library with the one I have been building on my laptop for the last 6 months and use iTunes Match for 1 library.
There seem to be multiple ways of copying or building the libraries themselves. I would like to keep playlists but it is not absolutely necessary. Where do I start?

You can check online for various merging tools but the standard way is to simply drag media from one media folder to iTunes open to the other library.
You could try exporting and importing playlists. I don't have much experience with that but I don't know how well it will work since playlists basically point to media files and if you are moving those...

  • HT4914 Can't reconnect my computer to iTunes Match

I purchased iTunes Match when it first came out and have successfully connected my iPad and iPhone to it. A few weeks ago, I turned off iTunes Match on my laptop. Today, I tried to turn it back on but can't connect. All I get is the iTunes Match splash page asking me if I want to purchase it. I tried deauthorizing and re-authorizing my computer but for some reason it can't "see" my iTunes Match subscription (my iPhone and iPad still can access it). I don't even see the iCloud columns as options under View - View Options. Any idea what's going on? The only thing I can think of is that I used to subscribe to MobileMe. Not sure if that has something to do with it since MM ended on June 30.

I was having the same problem tonight.  I did a clean install for Mountain Lion, and my iTunes was blank.  After authorizing the machine, and selecting Turn On iTunes Match, I only saw the renewal option.
I did some experimenting and this worked for me.
    (1) Cleared iTunes cahce and reset warnings from Preferences > Advanced (which may not be required).
    (2) Quit iTunes.  Open iTunes.
    (3) Authorize computer.
    (4) Select iTunes Store on the sidebar.
    (5) Selected Purchased on the right side.
    (6) Downloaded one track previously purchased.
    (7) You should receive prompts asking to turn on Automatic Downloads.  I selected Music.
    (8) Go to iTunes Match and you should see Add This Computer.
Hopefully this works for you as well!

  • "iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes."

Went on a Vegas trip on Sept
    11th.  My iPad worked fine
before getting on the plane. In the hotel about 48hrs later I opened my iPad it
read the message: “iPad is disabled,
    connect to iTunes.”
To my knowledge myself, nor anyone else has tried to access my device or
entered the password incorrectly 3 or more times.
I started by updating my iTunes account on my computer to the latest version.
    Then multiple times I attempted
    the “Use recovery mode”
    steps.
    e.g.
    1. Turn off your device and leave it off.
    2. Plug in your device's USB cable to a computer with iTunes.
    3. Hold down the Home button on your device as you connect the USB
cable. Keep holding down the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes
    screen.
I received the message on my computer saying “iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.”
I click the “Restore iPad” button.
During which time the progress bar on my computer’s iTunes
screen was moving very slowly and other times seemed like it wasn’t moving at
all. I would leave my two devices and attached by the cable and upon returning
I would find that the process would have ended before it had completed.
Initially I thought it was a connections issue because I was in remote
locations with slow internet servers. Since being home I have re-attempted the
process and have been able to fully complete the forced recovery but I will
    receive a message saying:
“The iPad could not be restored. The disk you are attempting to use is full.
Removing files and emptying the recycle bin will free up additional space.”
What recycle bin is the message referring to? Obviously I CANNOT access any
data on the iPad itself. Just for the **** of it, I did empty my computers
recycle bin and re-attempted the forced recovery process but as I suspected it
did nothing for the iPad and I still received the same message: “The iPad
could not be restored. The disk you are attempting to …”

  • Hi I have an iTunes account with my uk debit card but am currently in Australia, can I buy and use an iTunes/app store gift card in AU$ or am I only allowed to acces the store in gbp£ ?

Hi I have an iTunes account with my uk debit card but am currently in Australia, can I buy and use an iTunes/app store gift card in AU$ or am I only allowed to acces the store in gbp£ ? Cheers

I had the same error when trying to update my apps on my ipod touch. I tried to input my security code numerous times to no avail. I also made sure my billing address was the same as what my bank had on file. To fix the issue I went into iTunes, logged onto the iTunes store, went to account settings and reviewed my recent purchases. Turned out that I had made a recent purchase and didn't have enough money left on my credit card to pay for it at the time. I paid off the credit card, and then input my security code once more and now it works fine. I've heard that some debit or pay as you go credit cards require a minimum balance, so make sure you have at least that amount in your account.

‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
