HT4914 I have iTunes Match. Why is music still taking up space on my iPhone?

I just purchased iTunes Match. Why is my music still taking up space on my iPhone?

If you have iTunes Match, yes the idea of that is that you have access to all your music from anywhere. If you access it though you will be downloading it, in order to play the music you have chosen to play, once downloaded, that music will stay on your device unless you delete it.
Music that is on your phone will show up as normal, music that is only in the cloud will have a cloud icon next to it, when downloaded the cloud icon will disappear, if you delete it again the cloud icon will disappear again.
In the example below, all my albums by Matt Schofield are on my phone, the others would need downloading.
Photo's are different they kept on your device and only synced to the cloud so they can be pushed to other devices.

Try posting in the iTunes Match forum, you'll probably find more knowledgeable folks there.  iTunes Match is a different service from iCloud.

Yes, I am signed in to iTunes match on the macbook pro, iPhone , & iPad (all updated & correct music libraries) where I bought all the tunes but still no updated tunes on the iPhoto music library after 3 days of being on iTunes match.

I Have iTunes Match , but my iPad still has over 20gb of music. Why is it not in the cloud.

With iTunes match, Apple determines which songs in your collection are available in the iTunes Store. Any music with a match is automatically added to iCloud. The songs that aren’t available on iTunes are uploaded.

    thx,

    Hey there Chriskir,
It sounds like you would like to delete all the songs from your iPad but still be able to access them in iTunes Match. You can delete all the songs from the Music section of your Usage in Settings by swiping your music left:
    Settings > General > Usage
iPhone, iPad, and iPod: Understanding capacity

  • Why is Photo Stream taking up space on my iPhone? I don't even use Photo Stream?

I was just going through my pictures, seeing how much room they're taking up on my phone, ect. when I notice Photo Stream is taking up space on my phone. I don't use Photo Stream... As far as I know. It says it using 3.9 KB, but I have no idea where that number is coming from. How can I view what's taking up that space, if it's possible?

This is what I mean. I'm seeing the 3.9 KB usage for Photo Stream under General>UIsage>Photos and Camera, nothing to do with the storage on iCloud and I have Photo Stream and everything to do with iCloud and photo sharing off. However, I may have had Photo Stream on before for a few weeks before I turned it off long ago. Could that data/used space just be a few photos that were once in Photo Stream before I turned it off if I've had it on before?

  • I need to clear space on my mac and have 2 other devices I need space on- IpHone and Ipad.  I have Itunes match.  If I delete the library from my computer, how can I play music from the cloud on all devices.  S

I am almost out of space on my mac and Ipad.  Need to clear songs off, but afraid I won't be able to listen without going to my external hard drive.  I have Itunes match but don't know how they are accessed from the cloud.  Thoroughly confused and frustrated.  Hope someone can help.
Another question is my Iphotos are taking up tons of space and I don't know if they are in cloud or best way to back up.  Any thoughts?

If you have iTunes Match, and your music is in your Match library, you can access it from iCloud on all your devices, provided they are signed into your iTunes Match account.  Make sure you keep a backup of your music somewhere though as the match process isnt' perfect and you may find that some of your iTunes Match music isn't exactly the same as the original (see https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4112).
The best way to back up your photos is to import them to your computer as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.  If you are out of room on your Mac, get an inexpensive external drive to save your photos on.

  • I am so confused about iCloud.  My husband says he never set it up but all is information is on both his iPad and iPhone.  How can that be and do I have to have iTunes Match?

I am so confused about iCloud.  My husband says he never set it up but all is information is on both his iPad and iPhone.  How can that be and do I have to have iTunes Match?

"All his information" may or may not include things customarily stored in iCloud.  Perhaps all the information is on both devices because they were both recently synced using the same iTunes sync.
Do you have to have iTunes Match?  No.  Many folks do not have iTunes Match.  The music purchased from iTunes is always available to the purchaser.  Other music is stored in iTunes on the person's computer.

  • Don't have ITunes Match but I can't delete downloaded songs

So I DO NOT have iTunes Match however my music app had iCloud songs that I could download since some were not on my iPhone. I didn't want any of them but accidentally downloaded a few and now I can't get rid of them by swiping left in the app. I turned off show all music so I wouldn't download anymore. Also I thought I could delete them from my library on my computer but they don't show up. I'm running iOS 7 if that helps at all. Thanks

You are probably thinking about Apple's USB Power Adapter Takeback Program.
It ended October 2013, and they weren't free anyway.

  • HT4914 Once I deleted my music files can I get them back via I cloud? I have Itunes match on.

Once I deleted my music files can I get them back via I cloud? I have Itunes match on.

I actually deleted my backup :-) That's the problem. But thanks.
I've managed to get some back but via a slightly different method.
Because the files weren't there, when I deleted them from my library they actually disappeared from the list.... So I created a new library (backed up my original one) and then synched that with Match so that all the files appeared. I'm just going through the ones I'm missing clicking 'download' and then when they're all back on my hard drive I'll revert to the previous Library which will hopefully pick up all of the recovered files.
    Bingo!

  • Why cant I transfer music to my iphone even if I have itunes match

I have Itunes, Iphone 4S and Ipad.
I also have Itunes Match which is activated on my iDevices.
I want to create a playlist on itunes and transfer it to my Iphone. I get an error message saying that I need to download the tracks on my Iphone from Icloud first even if its also on my computer. And even so, how am I suppose to be able to manage my music if I cannot do it from itunes anymore?
Thanks for your help because this itunes match service has been a bad surprise so far...

A solution I've mentioned in other threads for iTunes Match not syncing playlists to iPhone is to log out of your iTunes Account (Apple ID) in the iTunes & App Store page of Settings, turn phone off, then on, then log in again. This has solved problems for a number of people.  Cheers.

  • Why do we not have Itunes Match in Denmark yet.

why do we not have Itunes Match in Denmark yet.56 new countries just got access to the iTunes Store and Match

Here in the Netherlands we had a delay in the introduction of iTunes Match too. The main source of these delays are local organisations which aim to represent the artists' rights (thus the music labels). They want their sare of money and Apple has to pass them first, depending on local law.
I don't know what the legal situation on authors' rights is in Denmark, so be sure to check a local forum for more information about the situation in Denmark.

Unplug your Iphone out of your computer and replug it back in. It took me several times before I could do this

  • I have iTunes Match, but some of the music I loaded from CDs and I can see in the iTunes store won't play. It recognizes the album but is playing literally the only 3 songs I don't want to listen to.

How do I get to play all of my music that should be stored either on the computer or in the cloud?

    Hi,
Initially your music should be in your iTunes library on your computer. Once match completes its scan, your music will have been matched or uploaded. I suggest that you add iCloud status column to song view. This will tell you what has been matched, uploaded, purchased, inelligible, duplicate or waiting. What is the status of your tracks that are not playing.
If space is not an issue, I suggest that you keep the music on the internal hard drive otherwise you can delete the tracks and play from cloud. In both instances, you should maintain a back up of all your music on a separate hard drive.
